I got a Honda HRR free on Craigslist, fixed it a little, sharpened the two blades, changed oil, and just mowed grass fron 2 to 5 feet tall. I was shocked at how it powered right through it. Powerful little beast. And that's sending power to the rear wheels too.
I’ve had mine 12 years. I gave it a tune up this spring and it continues to start on the first or second pull. Never an issues. Runs and looks like I first night it.
Have had my hrx217 for four years. That grass would be no sweat so long as it isn't wet. It hates when its tall AND wet, but it cuts all. My damn self propel stopped working today. Was looking how to fix it and now I'm getting vids about my mower.
Love the sarcasm lol. But seriously just use. Bungie to lift the back up a little and let it discharge you will cut A LOT QUICKER even if need to do two passes to grind it up
These HRX models are Excellent as far as cut quality is concerned. They start easy and work well. Quality wise they do not live up to the standards set by the Honda mowers of the 1980’s & 90’s.
'80's-'90's Hondas and Toros were the best consumer mowers ever built. Honda's commercial GXV 160 is currently the best mower engine on the market, and it is nearly identical to the GXV 120 used on consumer HR 214's in the '80's and the GXV 140 used on the HR 215's in the '90's. I cut with a '91 Toro Recycler powered by a Japanese-made Suzuki 2-cycle. Quality of cut beats the crap out of my 2010 Honda HRX 217. HRX has slightly more power tho
I'm with you on this. I'll never use anything but a Honda. Unfortunately, they're out of the mower buisness (with the internal combustion engine at least).
They have their quirks! Most of them don't want to roll backwards at some point but getting power to the blade and wheels isn't one of them. I have an 85 here that starts first pull and I like better than the newer one that I have.
The '80's-'90's Honda mowers used commercial grade GXV series engine with a cast iron cylinder liner. The HRX 217 has a consumer grade engine with no cylinder liner. Piston and rings ride on an aluminum cylinder wall. Hondas GX series commercial engines will last many times longer than their GC series consumer engines. That said I have a 12+yr old HRX 217 that has a great running engine, transmission is shot tho
And it's mulching it, too. If you were able to discharge the clippings, you could probably push straight through it. I just bought a used self propelled for 85 bucks, and that thing is sweet.
He meaning me. Funny fact I hate bagging. So that little green nob on that there lever was in the exact spot I wanted. And I made this little video out of kicks and giggles. So There is nothing to be fixed here. The mower was and is working just fine.
@@littlemechanicshopI don’t even waste my time responding to these non-sense of humor having asses. Lol big ups to you for snapping back and also making this hilarious video, I use a Honda as my push mower for small spaces, they’re badass. As everyone can clearly see(but somehow not comprehend) in your video. 😂
I see a lot of videos of people talking shit about the mower and mowing shit it shouldn’t be to make a review on it lol I like the sarcasm in this but not a lot of people will pick up on it.
W t f, u say, that grass is for Riding Mower, on this size no Honda, no TORO, no EGO, nothinf will cut, only Riding Mower bro, wt f? U abuse Lawn Mower!
All these mowers are severely underpowered. A push mower needs 25 ish horsepower engine to make it not bog down and stall. It needs at least a 1/4” thick steel deck so it doesn’t get busted up in a few hours when your mowing brush and crap. Not everyone can afford a diesel tractor and a flail mower or brush hog, and not everyone has to mow that much land. We need a heavy duty 25 or so hp push mower that can handle mowing real world yards.
Yep, definitely a dip💩. I'd cut that at 9mph on my Bad Boy and probably not even miss a piece since it's not really that tall. The ones I can't see over are the troublesome ones LMAO
I hate that Honda stoped making the riding mowers from the 90s. Stupid Honda. Those things are too good. I have one and it still mows. How dumb is that? Now I’m stuck with a riding mower that’s going to make it to 400k miles like a civic.
Will apparently your push mower it not the problem it is grass is to high to cut the grass it also it can stop your engine best tips is get your weed eater cut it to make it shorter than use your push mower
The amount of people that don’t understand this is a troll is marvelous.
Finally someone understands sarcasm.
Lol 🤣🤣 I got one, I had knee high grass and it cut it down like it was nothing, you got the best mower
I would say is a good mower
@@littlemechanicshop you got a sharp in the blades
@@Porter6510 thank you for the suggestion. I’m sure they need a good sharpening now.
HRX engines are the K24s of mowers man. They’re the best.
Fr! People don’t understand the limitations of a mulching mower.
Lol 😂 yes agree there is limitations to these blades. Do I care? Absolutely not. I enjoyed putting them to the test.

This is actually hilarious I thought the same thing while mowing yesterday 😂

My Honda lawnmower cuts tall grass like cutting butter.

I just bought one today. Will be putting a VTEC sticker on it tomorrow for an extra 15 HP.

There putting there side by side there now
How bout letting ur grass grow more maybe it will do a job
Those are pretty great but I have a 2001 Lawn-Boy, pre EPA ban 2cycle that would kill that grass and ask for more.
You gotta treat the Hondas with love. I’d cut with 3/4 of the deck

Don't have it on mulch when you're trying to cut big weeds. Put it on Bag mode. Do not have the bagger on and it will discharge out the back.
And it's mulching it, too. If you were able to discharge the clippings, you could probably push straight through it. I just bought a used self propelled for 85 bucks, and that thing is sweet.
Honda makes tough lawnmower engines my been though hell and back and still runs like a champ
The life of a lawn mower is having the right oil in it and keeping the blade Sharpened regular my dad carl brown use to tell me this all the time 🙏
It’s Hondas fault it’s not you. 🤣🤣
I know dang that Honda. Lol
The sarcasm 😂
I have an HRN and would love to put a turbo on it.
Ah a fellow man of culture
That's amazing
Expensive, but great mower. I mow 5-6 lawns a week with mine and just last week the battery finally died
I’m pretty sure he’s being sarcastic lol
I’m pretty your correct. I’m being very sarcastic
This was actually hilarious I thought the same thing yesterday
Right just kinda funny I was hoping someone would see the comical factor about this.
I have a 20+ year old partner mower with a good old B&S it can easy cut that grass. Even higher without hearing any struggle!.
There amazing quality mowers and work great but i hated useing them. To heavy for easy turn arounds and sucks pushing onto a trailer 15 times a day
Honda mowers are garbage, they used to be good. Great for cutting a lawn that's already been cut by a better mower.
Rule 1,you have to be smarter than the mower.Raise the deck !!!
is that the one with the plastic frame?
Meanwhile a lawnboy 2 stroke will breeze by
Honda is a great mower. Are you serious?
depends on how you take care of your mower..
You know, if he had the rear discharge open, he wouldn't have this issue... easy fix here people.

Bro you to cut tall grass u need a comercial mower
Whomever does not understand this video does not mow their lawn.
A battery operated motor will runs right through that stuff
Sharpen the blade& raise the deck 2 notches: No Problem.
dude your mulching your fault if you were bagging or discharging you would of made it cut better + wouldnt bog down as much

There are no 25 hp push mowers. 5-6 hp max for nearly every mower on the market.
Goood
It was fun cutting that grass
you just have to put the wheels up a notch🤣
That might have helped a little lol
Me? Because I'm broke lmfao.
tank
Hehe. Hilarious.
Glad I’m not your neighbor.

What the heck you expect. Need bush hog for job
Yeah, they do suck and it’s because maybe the two blades
Trim it then mow it
That would have been the smart thing to do. But I did enjoy the mow. Stay tune I will have some big news about Honda lawnmowers. In my next video.
Suck as mowing? Sucks as a mowing implement maybe?
ummm ya could've just used a weed eater first
What would have been the fun in that
It did happen to me too
My Honda hrx barely stays alive when cutting medium size grass and I gotta bag the grass every lap. This mower sucks.
Check your blades.
I raise mine a bit and it works great
@@rainrush3484 it’s working good now. I think that first day I used it was just not a good day to cut grass.

I have all the best kept secrets.
Toro will do the same thing
And better
But Personal Pace sucks. Honda for the win if you have any hills on your property.
get an electric lawnmower will do the same for less
No no it won’t. My neighbor comes borrows my gas mower cause his brand new electric mower can’t do the job done.
Electronic mowers are trash
I’d rather have a Honda lawn more than a stupid Toro Toro sucks
