In class I've heard a saying that helped me memorize: HAAKTEAM (H - halogens, A - Anhydrides, A - Aldehydes, K - Ketons, T - Thioesters, E - Esters, A- Amids, M - Carboxylic acids. The last letter is kind of useless, but it helped me to know im missing one more)
