I knos he's in a difficult political position, but i really do think things would have gone differently if Jiang Cheng would speak up for Wei Wuxian. 1) His voice would add the legitimacy of a clan leader’s support to Wei Wuxian's notion of not killing innocent people. 2) Coming off of a war, many people are not eager to start another one and Jiang Cheng speaking for Wei Wuxian would make it look like WWX isn't being so much of an outlaw. 3) United together, the two of them are a powerhouse that others wouldn't want to mess with, alone with the reasons I've already mentioned. 4) It would be more difficult for an ahole like Jin G to direct Jiang Cheng if he wasn't so easily pricked by that comparison to WWX or insinuations that he's not respected.
