This whole documentary feels so surreal. You feel like you’re in a room with the Beatles, not to mention seeing them and being with them from day to day… and in such high quality! Over 7 hours of history in the making!
It’s only because they put a smoothing filter over the whole thing to get rid of the grain, if you look close you can see what almost look like brush strokes where the detail has been smoothed away. It looks pretty bad if you ask me. I’d much rather have a high res scan of the negative with its natural grain than a smoothed out version like this. Not to mention it kinda feels too modern, the era is definitely important to the story here and I feel smoothing that out into a clean digital look loses something important. A good example of film restoration without losing detail is the 2019 Apollo 11 documentary, the film there still has its natural grain and looks much better.
@@samueltufts I agree! As you can see in the rooftop part of the trailer, the detail is not there because of too much denoising that Peter Jackson used. I would rather have the quality of the 1+ video collection rather than something that lost detail. Edit: If you also pause on 2:37, you can clearly see that George's guitar has no strings. The reason that happened because of too much denoise (removal of grain) which causes it to lose detail.

I just suddenly thought of dad when I saw the magazine and so I bought it instantly even though it was not even his birthday yet at that time). Every time I hear any The Beatles song, it always reminds me of him. I know for sure he would have loved to see this and maybe even cry again in joy 'cause that's just how much of a big fan he is. It's been 5 years dad, I miss you. ❤
Same thing for me with my mom. She died in 2019,very unexpected. I can’t listen to them without thinking about her. She would have loved this. I miss her too.
glad it wasn't just me. I loved the Beatles and was around when the roof-top gig happened (I was 6, lol)...I suspect I will shed many more when I watch this docu.
Watching Paul and John work together to master these masterpieces is something never to be replicated ever again. The way Paul came up with get back genuinely gave me goosebumps.

I was 17 yrs old in 1969, and grew up with this music. But not realizing the greatness of it, I let it almost pass without appreciating the Beatles, thinking of it at the time, as some teeny--bopper genre music. But, I've been rediscovering their timeless, classic and feel--good music from those simpler days. Now, this film will hopefully re--awaken the world and a new generation to the Beatles music. Geniuses in their own right, they've never looked better.

I really couldn't imagine the world without The Beatles. Their songs are masterpieces and truly timeless. Message to future generations, never let their songs die!!!
It's all good. The songs are timeless masterpieces. They ain't going away anytime soon. Just the fact that they still have so much popularity after 50+ years says it all. Of course those who grew up with it have an emotional attachment does not mean newer listeners don't' appreciate or recognize the greatness.
@Daniel Drader You should try to look at the world from non-Anglo-Saxon perspective sometimes. Shakespeare has had a great influence on western literature, but there have been many authors who were atleast as influential as him.
@@haileyshannon7548 yeah I know that, I love that movie. So ironic, the world's electricity is shut down for a while and made everyone forgot The Beatles 😂😂😂

We can't go back in time, but this looks like the next best thing. Geez, they were good; brings tears to my eyes watching this so long after the fact. It’s like having the Beatles back again! At least for a while. And to think this footage was rotting in a vault for 50 years unseen. What a gift we are being given at this late date. Thank you Peter Jackson and the two remaining Beatles for allowing this footage to be compiled and released. They could have said no and we never would get to see it. The original film was terrible. It depressed me. This looks joyous and fun! Todays music, with the sole exception of Jack White, doesn’t interest me. He recently did a similar show on a Balcony in London in tribute to the Beatles Rooftop concert. Exactly 50 years later. I can hardly wait to see this!

I love all the Beatles, but to see John and Paul interacting in this quality really is something special. Those two men are responsible for writing the greatest catalog of songs in popular music history.
@@willettej7988 what breaks my heart is how young The Beatles were when this was filmed. To consider the amount of incredible music they had recorded, and were yet to record...
@@Ps3GamerVideos I dunno, my son (age 20) knows most of the Beatles songs, and it isn’t because of me. He heard me playing a couple of their albums when he was young, and that’s about it. They were broken up by the time I got into them too. They’re one of those bands that people “discover” now.
@@Ps3GamerVideos Timeless music like theirs may experience lows in popularity, but there will always be a resurgence. I'm a millennial in my 30s and started listening when I was 15. My siblings are Zennialls and started around the same age. This type of music, unique in its quality as well as its place in the cultural and musical zeitgeist, will always be popular.
No one comes close to there popularity, but imo a lot of bands can compete with their greatness composition-wise. If I should name a famous band, I would mention Queen. Their band members was much more skilled. Just compare the guitar playing.
@@ConrrHD they are unique indeed. Love the Beatles. They just seem a bit limited at times. Brian Mai really explore the whole fredboard and all techniques. George Harrison doesn't do that at all. Coincidence? I don't think so.
OMG!! I remember as a little girl, I begged my mom to let me watch the Ed Sullivan show when they came on. So I had extra chores and helped with my little brothers and sister. I was extra good, so she said I could watch but keep the TV on low, so my mom went across the hall to the neighbor and left the TV on for me. I now feel just as excited and cannot wait for this!!
I was four years old that night and my mom woke me up and got me out of bed to watch Ed Sullivan. She knew it was going to be an important event that she wanted me to remember forever. And I have.
That's a wonderful story! Your Mom probably didn't understand what the fuss was all about, but she could see how important it was to you. That's a good Mom.
I've learned that when you're a songwriter, nothing will ever sound 100% perfect to you. They'll always hear what you could've done better, or where you screwed up and so forth.
I recently watched an interview with George Martin. He had dinner who John who said : "If I had my way I would record all of it again" "Even Strawberry Fields?" "ESPECIALLY Strawberry Fields!"
My wife's grandfather was the young bobby on the roof that said "No I'm not threatening you or anything". All four of the Beatles signed the inside of his helmet before he left. Shortly after George Harrison's death, we were offered over 2 million pounds for it. It still sets in a glass case by our tele. Money is only money but the Beatles are "The Beatles".
Can’t believe they were that close to writing that song as: “Something in the way she moves, attracts me like a cauliflower.” Would have been every vegan’s anthem.
That was John attempting to mock George's writing, which turned out to be one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. At this time George was proving to be a formidable song writer which made Paul and John feel threatened.
@@hocan6924 no john literally was just helping him write the song by filling in a line to keep him going. That audio has been around for a while now. Its like paul and “scrambled eggs”. Just a filler for that point in time
Now this is how The Beatles is supposed to be remembered. Not one was ever greater than the other because without just any one of them The Beatles never would've been and this film proves it. Hats off to the 4 greatest band members of all time!
@@HolocronStudios They did keep silly lyrics like that in so many songs. They were known to use words that fit the song or that sounded right and not care so much about how listeners would interpret the meaning.. if there even was any. But with a song like "Something" I think "no other lover" worked better then "cauliflower" lol.
Yes, that cauliflower line would be the holistic health food version... 😉 I believe there are recordings of that actually performed within these archives. You're going to hear it eventually.
What an incredible documentary! It's gob-smacking that this film has been hidden for 50 years. Peter Jackson has edited & restored this footage into the best rock-documentary there ever was. Totally fitting for these icons. Fascinating.

This trailer alone has got me weeping, wow. I’ve finally reached an age and maturity (older than they were then) to fully appreciate them and their music. It’s beautiful
I was born 10 years after their break up. I grew up listening to them my entire life. I always felt like I just missed witnessing one of the greatest eras in music. I watched them in Black and White and in grainy color on video, album covers, and in pictures. But to see them in this film, I felt like I got to witness something almost first hand. They truly came to life for me. it was so intimate. Although it was bittersweet to watch, knowing how it all ends, it was the greatest thing to feel like a fly on the wall watching it all unfold. I was spellbound and amazed at watching Paul create Get Back out of thin air. It was literal magic. And to see the chemistry between Paul and John in creating Two of Us... it took a deeper level of meaning to one of my all time favorite songs. I knew the magic of that song was there, when I first heard that song. it was wonderful to see the footage of it all unfolding. Last but not least, Paul's beard was everything!
The thing that strikes me the most about 'our boys' is their work ethic and their commitment to getting it right. When you hear early versions of some of this session's songs, they are rag-tag and a bit shaggy. By the time they worked all their parts out and made choice overdubs we end up with perfection!
Well, the Beatles tried to close the chapter when this film was released for the first time, that's partly why it was called "Let It Be" back then. As for me, I'm happy it's been re-released. I've been wanting to see it again for 52 years. I hope Disney did a good job with it -- I used to trust them when Walt was alive. :) Love seeing all these youngsters here talking about the film.
@@MW-tk5nf He he… I live in Australia but grew up in Liverpool and was brought up on Beatles music. At 50 years old I don’t think I classify as a youngster however, it amazes me that the entire Beatles life cycle started and finished before I was born. As I was raised on Beatles music I have never not been a fan for as long as I have been alive, but I was born just after they broke up. It’s amazing how relevant they have remained.
Was 13 in 69,, have listened to this album hundreds of times,, watched and read everything I could find on the. Beatles.. This documentary brings back lots of memories, with new memories being pulled out of time from the past, feels great love it
Born in 1963. The first song off the radio that I ever truly remember singing to myself was "Eight Days a Week". These four men wrote and performed the soundtrack of my life.
I was in 7th grade when all of this was happening. I remember being home from school, sick, and having the radio by my ear all day long , just to hear Get Back before I bought the 45 single . It's great to see the good times they were having at the time , instead of just the bad edit that was the Movie Let It Be. I am almost 66 years old now. I remember the Ed Sullivan show when I was in 2nd Grade. Can't wait to see this !
this documentary made me reminisce over a time i wasn’t even alive in, it’s that powerful. it genuinely made me emotional. it’s a wonderful film full of the worlds greatest musicians and songwriters of all time just existing and creating in their most natural states of being. i cannot get over how amazing it was to watch and experience this film. wow, just wow.
What is so amazing is that the Beatles only had about three weeks to write and record and perform a new album of material. In that time they put together songs such as 'Get Back', 'Let It Be', 'The Long And Winding Road', 'Don't Let Me Down', 'Two Of Us' and 'I've Got A Feeling'. We also see them working on songs such as 'Something' and 'All Things Must Pass' etc. Although the album 'Let It Be' is not regarded with the same respect as other albums by the Beatles such as 'Sgt Pepper' or 'Abbey Road', the fact remains that it remains so much better than so many other albums regarded as great by so many lesser artists. The Beatles created a standard that even they were held to. 'Let It Be' is a great album - and this film confirms this as a fact.

There is a quote out there from Stella McCartney, saying she saw it all with her dad and by the end they were crying, she realised the effect the Beatles had held over her childhood.
@@hellsjamfleas Hi Helen - yes it must function as a seriously well documented 'family snapshot album' for Paul & Ringo (for all involved). Bittersweet for fans to see John & George (+Linda & others) looking so full of life, but for their best friends much more so - It would be nice to see the profits from 'Get Back' going to a good cause though - McCartney is more than rich enough to keep himself & a few small countries in comfort for a few centuries ...They did rather well from it all when it happened in the 1960's & its sure been milked since - mad that the 'Beatle bin' is worth so much more than most musicians career's -
I watched it about 20 times. Something people forget is that in their day - when they were a band and as big as they were we hardly ever saw them. Almost the entire Beatlemania thing from '63 to '70 was received by us via records. I think from 1964-1970 I actually only saw them perform on tv 4-5 times in all plus the three films. Of course I also saw the original Let It Be film at the theater in '70 and for me it was a bummer considering that we could see the end was upon us. And the way the film was edited and the low quality of it made the whole thing less than thrilling. Then they were gone. That makes the long wait for this film such a revelation and joy and with so many individual moments to be able to go back over and re watch it is just so beautiful. Thank you Peter Jackson. Thank you JPGR. You're still the best.
George Martin said something similar. The first time he heard the Beatles he said he wasn't impressed by their music but knew he could sell them just based on their personalities alone. He said it made you feel good just to be around them.
John Lennon ...Dont let me down what a voice and the accompanying guitar sound.Truly so evocative. Greatest band that ever existed in the annals of pop history.
Strangely enough, I think that Billy Preston can be thanked for this. I heard that he was a calming influence on everyone, and his fingerprints are certainly all over their last album: Get Back, Let it Be, Don't Let Me Down, and others.
Just finished watching. Absolutely mesmerising to see the band's creative chemistry and charisma first hand! And the love between John and Paul is joyous and gorgeous!
This documentary is such a pure and loving portrayal of the greatest pop band that has thus far existed.

@@elkemast809 Sure I would love recommendations! I mostly prefer their more artsy and psychedelic stuff! Basically everything from Rubber Soul onwards! The other musicians that seem to tickle my brain the same way would be Pink Floyd and Tame Impala! Would love to know more artists that make such music.
Of course I'm biased but after watching the entire show, this just validates their genius and creativity. The fact that they went on to do Abby Road after leaving this session unfinished and were done as a band before any of them was 30 yrs old is mind blowing. The way they changed music from '63 to '69 is beyond comprehension. Music today hasn't changed or progressed in the last 20 years.
I've listened to so many of those audio recordings like the one with George asking the others for advice on writing "Something" and Paul talking about how funny it's going to be in 50 yrs when people say that The Beatles broke up because Yoko sat on an amp. But to actually SEE those moments take place is going to be absolutely amazing! I AM SO HYPED FOR THIS!!!
Watched it so many times. The moment that always hits me is 2:28. 'Do you want to do it once more then?' and John saying 'we'll never get a chance to do it again'. Too right. This was a moment in cultural history, magical in the making and never to be repeated.
I love their creativity during that phase. Especially when Billy joined them. Even though I’m making electronic music, The Beatles still remain the biggest influence and inspiration to me.
Without The Beatles modern music would sound very different so it doesn't matter... Your biggest and inspiration IS involved in the picture of the very genre you make..9
@@debranchelowtone it's actually because Peter jackson and his team have remastered it using the same techniques he did for the world war 1 documentary he made.

I was 10 years of age and my mind was awoken to these mere boys from Liverpool sharing their music with the world. I made my first electric guitar, somehow converted a radio into an amp and taught myself how to play (albeit & badly). My world was perfect however not all things stay the same. I'm now 69 and this sneak peek has taken me back to those perfect days where it seemed the world came together as one. So looking forward to the movie. Saw the second one, the conversation that Paul and John have after George departs, that gave me chills. John and Paul are titans and I am amazed with how John handles it. Not surprised but just amazed. My father who was never much of a fan of anything, stated how much he admired John Lennon as a person. Watching Paul go through various feelings, I get the feeling that he really put heart and effort into the band at that time and his biggest fear was happening before his eyes and it was devastating. I always heard over and over the connection that John and Paul had and in that conversation I can sense John also fears the same thing. They both were strategically putting thought into how to keep it all together. Just my opinion of course.

Just think about it, in 3 weeks this band wrote, practised and recorded enough songs to fill an album. Nowadays most artists write one song in a month, spend one month parctising, one month recording, one month finishing it off and yet still can't manage to write a truly memorable tune. I was fortunate to be a young teen in the 60's marvelling at every new record by these wizards of pop.
This coupled with Paul’s soon to be televised relevation about “our Johnny” just makes me happy to see the guys working well together and working through the issues. Rather than the old one-sided terse version that we are all familiar with. I can’t wait.
The Beatles have always been like myth & legend to me. Not growing up in the era, I’ve only know them as older guys with solo projects, with no emotional connection to the Beatles. So this documentary is gonna feel like time travel for me, and I get to experience a myth becoming reality.
All my life I've heard the music and I was told about the Fab 4 by my parents, Aunties and Uncles. All my life I've seen a lot of sad or flat documentaries regarding the Beatles break up.
By the time they worked all their parts out and made choice overdubs we end up with perfection!
there wasnt supposed to be any overdubs on the Get Back Lp though
The Anthology recordings show that really well. Listening to the evolution of a song like Strawberry Fields is really amazing!
Don't forget George Martin who was their arranger & producer. He put the polish on their creativity and made them shine even brighter.

Closest thing we have to a time machine right now - must be mental for Paul & Ringo to watch this after all these years -
There is a quote out there from Stella McCartney, saying she saw it all with her dad and by the end they were crying, she realised the effect the Beatles had held over her childhood.
@@hellsjamfleas Hi Helen - yes it must function as a seriously well documented 'family snapshot album' for Paul & Ringo (for all involved). I am going to laugh and cry through this entire film. What a gift.
Even without the music they were just so compelling to look at.

Suddenly I understood what all the hype was about, and found myself attracted to them like a cauliflower. (haha you'll only get that if you watch the trailer above). I'm just gobsmacked by their talent, their cheekiness and the way they changed the world of music just by being themselves.
Alsp most of their music are very easy listen.

Exactly how I felt ( I mainly remembered how my old music teacher used to constantly play the Blue Album in lessons at school, by then about 1977) I've been glued to this on the Disney+ thing since yesterday...now on episode 3, now , at 57 , excitedly about to get into their catalogue proper...wonderful period stuff and you can see so many influences on future bands ..anyway , unpausing episode 3 forgive ;)

2:08 brings tears to my eyes. "Always will be". Like Paul secretly hoping his old friends and he would reunite somewhere in the future.
I’m glad almost 3 million people still love the Beatles ❤️
The Beatles have always been like myth & legend to me. Not growing up in the era, I’ve only know them as older guys with solo projects, with no emotional connection to the Beatles. So this documentary is gonna feel like time travel for me, and I get to experience a myth becoming reality.
I feel like I've been waiting my whole life for this movie.
of course it’s very clever marketting .
Literally, it gave me chills every time I watch the trailer.
All my life I've heard the music and I was told about the Fab 4 by my parents, Aunties and Uncles. All my life I've seen a lot of sad or flat documentaries regarding the Beatles break up. I used to think they were over hyped and nothing special. During my 45 years on this earth I have grown to appreciate these legends and now there is a fitting re restored documentary footage actually capturing that time for what it really was. Four men at there height that really loved each other and enjoyed each others company just bantering while at the apex of there creativity . This trailer had me well up with tears and it really will bring the legacy of the Beatles full circle in a more fitting, deserving way that it should be remembered.
been reading the comments on people telling their favourite bits. after watching through it over and over, I think mine is the interview with two random girls on the street. it's like watching two teens today. just wondering about the band they like... I think this is one of the most things we get distracted of by all the noise. these were just people. it was only one band. yes they were huge, but I guess this is what I like looking at. this is what these footages are about... the intimate truth of a time we couldn't get back to see. these are not newspapers, no tales, no guessing, no passion. these are real moments, real fear, real young people giving what they had to give. and they were in an English band called The Beatles! i respect these human lifes so much, in all their trajectory. yes, of course, this is also probably not fully accurate and honest to who they were... but I bet we've never been so close. honestly can't wait for it. thank you peter
Great comment
I love seeing artists create their work. It’s always so inspiring… doesn’t matter if you’re someone who wants to do or does music, it’s just amazing to watch someone be passionate about something & watch their imagination come to fruition.
So true, it's magic in action. Creation is true alchemy.
Chills down my spine. I love so many bands more than The Beatles, but I love The Beatles more than any other band. They changed the musical landscape and set a higher standard.
George "how many have we already recorded good enough?" John "none." Little do they know how much this would mean for their fans and they didn't think their songs were good enough yet. Thank you guys for the ride, can't wait to watch this with my dad
