For those rare stuff in fancy colors that's in fact problematic. Not so for the black pin: You don't only get tons of them in big Technic-Sets, but they are also in about everything ;)
I really think there are two honorable mentions. Ship in a bottle (21313) for dumping 284 of the same piece into the bottle with a single step, and the already mentioned Roller Coaster (10261), which asks you to chain together 203 tiny chain links in one step. These aren't the most pieces in a box, but possibly the most you'll see (or deal with) at once.
not technically on the same piece but bonsai tree makes you do something similar to ship in a bottle where you dump 200 small pieces into one container.
I don't really count ship in a bottle as you're literally just dumping a bag into the lego bottle, nothing is actually being attached. It's not tedious at all and can be done in about 5 seconds if you have the bare minimum of hand eye coordination. Whereas the looping coaster actually requires you to stick a bunch of pointy jagged chain lift pieces together, your hands feel raw once it's done
It's actually happened to me with the roller coaster one, wasn't too bad to reassemble since all the pillars had a technic axle down the middle keeping them together.
@thomas technic pin connections are pretty dang strong. If something does come off it’s something like a moveable object that only has 2 or even possibly 3 connections.
Would be interesting to compile a list of what the most used pieces are overall. Would be a lot of work. But could be done with computer image processing to scan through instruction manuals and deposit the tally in an excel sheet. Just wanted to clarify. If you could get pdf's of all Lego set instructions you could run a very simple image processing program over the index of all the parts in the set. That's just the first few pages and is very doable. I think what I originally said came off more as scan every page lol.
You may just want to crawl rebrickable or any other Set Database. If you would have access to their SQL Database, It may be just one command to get the top n most used Lego pieces :D
8:12 The 21309 Saturn V has 148 (+16 printed) "White Slope, Curved 3 x 2" elements. I know, it's not that much, but it's an unusual piece to have that many of in a single set consisting of less than two thousand parts.
@@PotatoCrispGaming it's the same model but they changed the number after a few years instead of discontinuing the set like they usually do with all sets because it was still very popular.
The Ideas Ship in a Bottle has you dump 284 translucent blue studs into the bottle to act as the "water". When I got to that step, I did a double take. That is probably the most pieces used in a single step out of any lego set.
I'm not sure about the orchid set, but I know the birds of paradise set has you mix 200 tan single studs and 100 Brown single studs together to make the dirt for the pot. At least the ship in a bottle contains all those loose studs in a bottle, I think I probably lost at least 50 studs of dirt
I’ve always thought about stuff like this. Because I’ve never had enough money to buy these big sets, I’ve never been able to see their manuals. I’m glad that you put out this video to satisfy that curiosity!
I'm about to start the robie set. It's hella expensive where I live so I build it on studio with the instructions for free. Can't put it on a shelf but it will be awesome as a wallpaper
My favorite abundant price in a set I own is the bonsai tree with 100 pink frogs that are supposed to be cherry blossoms. Owning so many pink frogs gives you a feeling of power
i have it too! was hoping to see someone think the same thing lol. i put a single pink frog on in the leaves of my green tree as a nod to the 99 others that didn’t make it hahaha
I remember when I was super young, I used to count every piece in the set and check it with the list on the back of the build instructions. My dad saw me about halfway through marking off the list when he said "you know you don't have to do that right?"
I do like most of these construction styles better than a lot of the overly specialized large parts. I'm reminded of things like bionicle Piraka bodies where they had like 7 pieces for the entire torso and 4 of them were snaps. That's nice and easy to construct but what if I want to make something else out of that set? Probably the only alternative use for that huge part was like a limb piece or something. But then you need a build with limb segments about 11-13 studs long or something and very robust, and that's getting to the point where you would expect not to be using large premade parts as an entire limb segment.
on the Bucketwheelexcavator you could also mention that there are 53 of the 5x7ish technic frames. When i disasembled it to build the B model it looked like 50% of the parts were these but stilla an awesome video and i somehow had it in mind that lego would use this trick to push the amount of overall parts. Greetings from Germany
Make a list of the sets that have the most pages of piece index. The highest I’ve found is the ninjago city gardens at 10 pages. (I did count one page of the large spiral bound Star Wars instructions as two pages. By the way are there any spiral bound instructions that aren’t Star Wars?)
The only "large" build I've ever done is the mario NES one, with the mosaics on a belt, so not only mosaics, but split into segments Edit: and the Saturn V
Well probably it came out after this video, but the Lego Art world map goes for a WHOPPING 1879 Dark Turquoise round tile, 1601 Medium Azure, and 1006 Lime ones...
i feel that technic has actually a matter at their colours. Thats my theory: light grey:spinny banana its so wonky and sloppy dark grey: a little bit harder blue:not for super spinny stuff, but it does spin black: OMG!! IT CANT EVEN SPIN.
