@@WoutervanderMeulen It really isn't. Dota, the original, was made completely free by folks who were just passionate about it. As soon as you make that leap to "turn it into a business" everything changes, because suddenly you have to calculate how you spend every minute of your time. You may have spent weeks working on one tiny, insignificant thing when it was just for funsies because you really wanted that thing, but when it is a business, you gotta say "is it really worth it spending all this time on this one thing that most probably won't even appreciate?". You start cutting corners, catering to the common denominator and trying to maximize appeal and target audience. EVERYTHING changes once money gets involved. Thats why you should never loan money to friends or family, because it can fuck up relationships. D&D is getting real bad about it too unfortunately. Once upon a time, dungeon masters ran game purely for the love and joy of it, but now you have more assholes trying to make a living off DMing than those doing it for fun. Everyone trying to hustle everything. Instead of long campaigns lasting a year or 2 in a homebrew world with an original story, these rent-a-DMs just run adventure modules over and over and over, multiple times a week. It becomes a passionless chore. Damn shame. Money only hurts things, it doesn't make them better. Take any number of niche things that get remade for a larger target audience to maximize profits that the soul is completely sucked out of, there are countless examples.
Modding and game development is just very, very different. The three biggest differences is 1: When modding, you only need to be conserned with what YOU want, and enjoy, nothing else. When developing a game, you have to consider how to make it enticing to not just play, but also pay for. 2: Consumer base doesn't matter, when you are modding. If only 1 out of 300 000 of players can actually play your mod, it doesn't matter. You made it for you. However, when you're selling a game, cutting out 1 out of 300 000 people, due to choosing HD textures, or higher polygon count does suddenly matter, a lot. If instead of 4k textures, you went with 1k, and 1 out of 5000 could play your game, that's potentionally 60 times more customers than before, that's big. 3: For AAA especially, anything that you want added to a game, has to be approved, often by multiple people, and if it gets approved, it usually gets changed beyond recognition of what you originally wanted to add. It's somewhat a case of "too many cooks in the kitchen" scenario. Which is partly how you get things like Starfield (Bethesda is somewhat complicated, due to their past). A lot of game devs, were or currently are, modding, hence it's not as black and white as people seem to think it is. Modding became a big thing in BG2, in part due to the devs themselves being heavily involved in the modding community, and releasing mods to make changes to the game in their spare time. Hell, Jsawyer mod for New Vegas is an perfect example of this exact thing. Sawyer had it in him, to make New Vegas towards what the hardcore fans want, he choose not to, due to the risks of alianating a lot of people, it was safer to design New Vegas to be closer to Fallout 3 in difficulty\design, and so he did.
Aside from the camera position, which is a quick fix, this looks absolutely amazing and fun to play! You just convinced me to download skyrim once again XD

Player voice lines make it harder to immerse yourself in the game through different playthroughs. It's boring when your evil khajit assassin sounds exactly the same as your heroic warrior nord

All has to be of the almost same graphic level doesn´t matter if you have a PC that has 4x the power of that crap consoles. That is a very big problem aswell. Fuck market politics.
Because... Skyrim came out in 2011. These mods are all mostly modern. Computing technology is a lot better. Skyrim was built by 100 people. Many of these mods required teams to work on them as well. Thousands of modders devoted their time to making every mod in this 1k+ mod list. A better question to ask would be, why don't all these modders make their own game like Skyrim? The answer to that is making a game from scratch is a lot harder than making a mod for an already finished game.
because these mods are thousands of separate things added together. Each mod creator wasn't worried about it clashing with other mods to the extent a dev team is. Each mod creator could hyper-focus on it and not have to worry about time or deadlines.
@@TeamTrumpCGN This was the dumbest thing anyone has said. The console market pushes gaming forward, especially in the graphics department, and again, games that look this good wouldn't work on ALL setups, so there would still be restrictions. I played Skyrim over and over again when it came out in 2011. I tried doing mods when they became available, which improved the game so much but not to this level. I got fed up of trying to organise the mod list so they didn’t crash the game. This is like a whole new game. I only wish there are different voice actors for NPC characters because the same voice makes the immersive gameplay less appealing. The inclusion of AI followers has changed the game too.
Take any number of niche things that get remade for a larger target audience to maximize profits that the soul is completely sucked out of, there are countless examples.
its often how they get discovered nowadays.
I introduce you to SureAI and the games of Nehrim and Enderal.
Looks like an outstanding character! She looks beautiful. Congrats on your creation.

@@RicochetForce Yep. Also we have the problem that PC Games has to be technically shit because of the Xbox and Playstation market.
