From a woodworker --Thanks much!! My wife is an AVID quilter, embroiderer, notions and crafter thus has LOTS-a-needles! I was in the process of looking at different ideas for making her a needle organizer when I came across your quite clever and most efficient storage box-WOW! Simply stated; I can't imagine a simpler more efficient way to store and organize your needles.Job well done!

Sharon Aliza Exactly. The paper idea was really cool to start. The labels and peel and stick magnet circles...NICE. I am trying to think of non sewing uses. Maybe separating jewelry or embroidery floss and needles or knitting stitch markers.

Very nifty idea indeed. Very useful and I can see this would make a very unique gift for sewing friends and family. It's a great gift, too, for brand new sewers. I can imagine giving this wonderful needle box full of needles for someone just starting out.
Thank you again for a unique, well instructed tutorial, as usual. Kathleen

I just made one of these out of a wooden box my son made in wood shop at school years ago. Never sure what to use it for and this idea was just the thing! I love it. My needles were every were and I never knew what I had on hand. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.

In case anyone is wondering where you can get thin, flexible, adhesive magnets I was able to get a small sheet at hobby lobby that I think will work out great for this project. They’ll be easy to cut into squares! A lot of the magnets I was seeing at local craft stores were really thick and heavy duty. So I really wanted to share this. Or if you hadn’t noticed the ones used in this video are by Craft Medley and they are called Magnet Wonder Dots. Happy crafting! I’ll have mine complete this weekend!

I arrived here after searching for a way to organize my hand sewing needles but I love this so much I might have to organize my machine needles first! Such a clever organizer that is both useful and charming!

I have been actually searching for a way to keep track of what needle is in my machine for a while - I have my needle assortment in a plastic compartmentalized box which is ok, but not good enough. This is genius. Thanks.

Can use cigar boxes. They come in all sizes. You can visit your local cigar store to see what they have. The one near us sells their empty ones for very cheap.

While I didn't do the actual box part as I have a small 3 drawer container on my sewing table, I did the organizing part. Works out very nicely. When needles recently went on sale, I was able to just look in each section to see what I needed. So much quicker than having to rummage through a jumble of needles.

I Love this! I use organ needs and Schmidt. But, I can still organize my needs by size. I usually sit in horror looking for the right needle in the middle of a sewing project. Thanks for this tops tip!!!!!

Like the idea of the file box, but I won't need the little magnets. I always put my used needle, that's still good, back in the original plastic holder with the tip towards the opening instead of down. This way I know it's been used.

That’s an awesome idea to put the needle tip up in the little boxes. I was trying to think of what I could do to make it obvious which ones I’ve used, but I was lucky and found the type of magnets I’ll need from hobby lobby. But I’ll keep this in mind incase I run out of magnets (I only got a small sheet being that I’m new to sewing and haven’t acquired a huge variety of needles yet) or if I buy a pack that’s not SCHMETZ. Thanks for the tip!!!!

You need to change the name of your channel to “Is there anything Laura can’t do or doesn’t think of?” 😂 I love it. A very complete project and extremely useful. I have one of those green super soft Clover (I think) needle cushions that has the needle size written on & I put my needles high up or in the middle or low depending on the hours it’s more or less done! If it’s a couple of hours it goes to the top, if it’s had 8 hrs or more it goes to the bottom and I know I’ll be changing it shortly! I could combine it with this box as I always forget to take out the needle I’m using and then can never remember what’s in there. With your index card idea I don’t need to guess! Excellent... as always beautiful Laura! Thank you another great tutorial! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  • @mgs783

I like that the identifier needle info is right there. I was thinking of also putting Velcro on an empty pill container (w/ lid) and to the side or top of the box where broken/spent needles can be stored and replaced without tipping over. Easy to remove the storage container and properly dispose and then put a new empty container to replace it. Nice tutorial that is practical and simply organized. 😊

I had almost passed this one up because I thought I liked my little mini drawer cabinet that sits by my machine loaded with needles. However, I do spend an amount of time looking for my needles as they are just stuffed in there and no place for used but still good needle except in pincushion and seriously I never know what's stuck in there so it's usually just used now as a nail to hang up things in my sewing room, which I learned from Joy. But really the needle had more sewing hours. When I watched your video I realized why I enjoy your videos and why I started faithfully watching you. You are a great instructor, and we need to look, listen, and heed! Smile. Thank you, I'm off to purchase a box, I can always store something else in my tiny cabinet.
