I found in Sweden & Denmark that food in grocery stores was pretty fair. It's when you eat out a lot that gets expensive. IMO it's best to rent a vacation apartment or house and cook food at home.

I couchsurfed in Stockholm and didn't get murdered ;) Actually I had one of the nicest stays ever when couchsurfing :) As for food, I tried out the Karma app, which can be helpful when traveling on a budget... (I have a review somewhere on my channel) And I do agree with your conclusion: Sweden is a bit expensive I suppose ;D
I was in Sweden when the US Dollar was weak. I think I got about 7.5 SEK to $1. If a bottle of water was 15 SEK, that was $2 for me. Seriously I can't remember the actual price I paid in Stockholm but to me it was expensive. At that rate, Sweden appeared very expensive but so did everywhere else. Now, it's about 10.5 SEK to $1. That should help a lot when I'm in Sverige in the summer. Jag älskar Sverige!

If you come here on a student visa you are also allowed to work a certain amount as well ~ Some countries also have working holiday visa arrangements with Sweden. Hope this helps! ^^
