  • Can you imagine breeding fish and having your own fry in your aquarium? Today we are going to make that happen. Breeding success in your aquarium depends on you. The fry can be raised in you community aquarium. This video address egg scatterers.
Fish egg scattering species include tetras, danios, and rasboras.
Certain breeder aquariums are specially made so that the fertilized egg falls under a mesh screen to protect them from being eaten by the parents.
Father Fish has developed a unique way of breeding fish by keeping the eggs and raising the fry in a fish tank using a food web with a resurrection jar. These babies have a greater chance of survival as they live in the leaves of the aquarium and have food readily available when they have matured enough to eat. Father Fish's way is healthier for both mother and fry. It is a wonder to behold!
FATHER FISH is an advocate for natural aquariums. His research over 25 years provides a wealth of information about the creation and maintenance of natural aquariums.

Who the heck is this guy!? I was taken a back for a minute there without the beard haha. Just started my first tank at 32 and did it the "way of the father." 1" mud from a creek and 2" sand, all from the farm; can't wait to see how it turns out. As an arborist and horticulturalist, I've always though the natural way was the way to go. So glad I found your channel. One day I'll fly my airplane down to father fish, shake your hand and be able to thank you in person.

You are amazing. Seeing those babies hatch I didn't realise they still had the egg satchel. Now I do. My Bristlenose have bred but I never saw it. Just noticed the babies. I am always winging it but still love to learn. Some of them are alive at least.

Hello there Padre Pesce! Love the videos. Pulling up more of your food web videos tonight! Me and my 4 year old grandson watch you on the big screen. Raising him right so when he takes over the hobby, be will be all about natural diversity from food chain to substrate. Said it before, I wish they had RUclips in the 80s. You would have saved a lot of fish lives if I had your teachings when I first started. My 150 gallon tank will be in next week. We are drawing it up now. You can guess the name of ot.... Father Fish Oasis! Keep the videos coming. I go for my lake mud collection Tuesday. Keep the teachings rolling.

I can't begin to tell you how strange it is that I ran across this video with this title at this particular moment in time. Not 30 mins ago I had just discovered that my two Hillstream loaches had babies and that they seem to be thieving. They are staying close to the leaf litter on the bottom and can easily hide from other fish. So far these are my first surviving babies in this hobby. Woo Hoo!!

Humbertovargas1211, you need to be strong and don't let any evil thought enter your mind. always put your trust in God. Open your windows let the light in and put christian songs and pray, praise God to the fullest. Make promises to God and complete them and you will see your change but I tell you it will be possible if you have Faith. Faith like when God blocked Ramsey with fire and opened the sea for the Israelites. Look to the Adventist religion- we keep the Saturday or Methodist religion- Friday fast. God bless you!

I am working on adding play sand and topsoil to my 75. I have a big filter bag that I fill up with topsoil. I squeeze it and a bunch of air bubbles come out (along with a bunch of dirt) until in about a month I can empty the bag into the tank without it floating all over. And the play sand is not supposed to be for the aquarium because it has a lot of clay in it but it’s cheap and available and it’s soft and may even be better than straight sand, I don’t know. I am doing some aquascaping to make levels of depth held up by rocks retaining the soil.

At first I was just adding tanks but it just became too many tanks to manage. So how do I crowd control or keep my mollies from having more babies or even having the babies have babies with each other?

I raise mine a bit different it's been working with minimal effort and I can also get away feeding fry powder when the fry put pressure on the food web which happens pretty fast cos they grow really fast doing it this way. I might do a video. I basically train the parents to spawn over marbles in a container and every few days I empty it into a fully planted dirted tank and I do mean heavily planted and thick mats of floating plants and it has the rotted leaves etc and I have the tank aged enough it can cope if I feed too much the worse thats ever happen is a bit of algea that got going and I just pulled out. I just use a 10 gallon for babies doing this as they get bigger the bigger ones I move to another 10 or 20 gallon or a tub same set up and if I forget to feed there is live food breeding in the tank. That actually feeds off excess fry powder too. It won't work in a sterile bare bottom tank and you do not clean or water change these tanks it screws it all up. I breed hundreds of celestial pearl danio doing this. It's easy I havn't bothered with brine shrimp in almost a year now. I use a fry powder that is 50% protien its not a name brand it's made by private fish keepers but the tank has live food so they are getting both the tanks dont have filters I have never cleaned or water changed just a top off and remove excess plant matter as needed.

I currently have kribs fry with parents in my 20g long. Plants, rocks and gravel. When I watch the fry, I just see them pecking away at everything. Looks like they don't really need any food from me. I still feed frozen baby brine because I have red chili endlers with them. I didn't feed them for 2 days due to going camping over the weekend and it didn't seem like it didn't really bother them to much.

I just started colony breeding CPD's in June, or rather that's when I got my juveniles. Dirted tank (organic compost and soil because our local pond is too toxic from AG ferts) with sand cap and half covered in pea gravel and moss carpet. I just saw my first 2 fry two days ago!! I know I should prob have separated eggs but I wanted to try just colony breeding and see if I had success. The moss carpet and pea gravel were key I think. Parents couldn't eat the eggs that sift into moss and rocks.

I left him in there to heal naturally, and today I noticed the entire side of him was covered in white fuzz. I removed him and placed him in a hospital tank. The remaining Discus are healthy, no tears or injuries. I want to add some salt to the tank. How much can I safely put in a 210?

    Hey Father Fish…I have a question…
I have a pair of Orange Flash Apistogramma. They have been in a 10-gallon planted tank, substrate capped with sand and a sponge filter since October of last year. They have yet to spawn.
They get along. The female hangs out around the coconut hut. The male swims around the tank. They both come up front and center when it’s time to eat. I usually feed all my fish every other day. For the Apistos, I alternate live daphnia, live black worms, live grindal worms, frozen bloodworms, frozen Brine Shrimp and frozen Mysis Shrimp. I rarely do water changes now. Parameters are good.
What should I be doing differently?
Also…in the event I can get them to actually spawn…I am hearing from various sources that I would have to remove the male…is that true?

    • @FatherFish
      @FatherFish  11 месяцев назад +3

In a 10, yes. I would remove the male. Feed daphnia only and load the tank with culture so they can eat continuously. Work on a food web to provide nutrition for babies. Often fish will not spawn if there is no available food for fry.

    • @lmathews61

Why don’t you have hard fish to keep? All the fish I see can handle bad water quality. Your method doesn’t work for cichlids over 3 inches in size. I noticed in my years that temperature is one of the most important thing in a established aquarium. Discus don’t do good in water under 78 degreees F. Just curious because I get tired of changing water in all my tanks when some can possibly be skipped.

Fatherfish I have emailed you about one of your discord mods abusing their power and unfairly/unjustifiably kicking me from your server accusing me of "Low tier trolling" when I was simply giving my opinion on a subject, I am sorry that they are so close minded that they cannot see past their own ignorance but that shouldn't be made this communities problem, a moderator is supposed to be impartial and stick to the rules, not acting like vigilante banning whomever they please. I hope you take the time to resolve this issue as I really would like to be apart of this community

Hi ! Big fan! When setting up an ecosystem style aquarium, is it safe to add bags of gravel as the bottom layer of the substrate to bank up the back of the tank or would this disturb the anaerobic properties of the substrate?

      It adds no value
