I enjoy how you approach travel - and life. We are full-time rv'ers in America and are cruising to Europe and the UK this summer. It's nice to know that we aren't alone in this style of adventuring. Thanks for making this channel. I look forward to following your adventures. Safe travels! 🍒

Totally agree with your comments on cruising. I was very against the idea of cruising and now it’s my preferred form of travel. Can’t wait to try a transatlantic or transpacific after we recently did a 16 day through the Panama Canal.

Yes it's a real adventure going across an ocean like that. Hope you get to do that soon.

I was always totally averse to cruising - for all the stereotypical reasons you describe. After a 2 week round NZ cruise two years ago...I was hooked!
We did a Med cruise a few months back (combined with 5 weeks of train and car travel), we have 12 days from Singapore (via Thailand and Vietnam) to Hong Kong in March and just booked a 21 day Seattle to Miami (via Panama Canal) for October 24. That presents us with a great challenge of how to get back to an airport which can take us home (to Australia)...so currently working through possible options...maybe 2 weeks of train travel across the USA?
We see cruising as a KEY component of our holidays now - a fantastic way to relax in between long haul flights and city stays.

Booking a shore excursion can also add value if it gets you to a special place not reachable on foot at the port, such as to Petra from the Aqaba port in Jordan

We will spend 212 days on cruises next year including, yes, a world cruise that has been delayed for 4 years. Our total spend on the cruises (which includes drinks, gratuities and wifi) will be $52,000. All except the World Cruise (110 days for $38,000) are FREE. Yes, comped as I am a regular blackjack player. So the cost will be whatever I lose gambling. Not a bad deal, in my opinion. We love cruising.

Thank you as always for your great videos. I'll probably never do an ocean cruise because my wife doesn't like the idea of being on a boat that far away from land. She would be okay with a river cruise though. But you have changed my mind on a few things with these. I always got the impression when you got onshore you had to stay with the group. If you can explore away from the pack that makes a huge difference. I've debated doing some travels along with groups but your video showed me that going by ourselves is the best way, not having to wait on others like on the two overseas college trips I was fortunate to do.

I fell in love with cruising at 17 going with my family. It's great to see new sights, try new foods, and enjoy the shows and live music of a cruise. Now as an adult I cruise with my husband and daughter and we love it. ❤

Thanks to you, Neil, hubs spontaneously booked a 14 day repositioning cruise to London from NYC. When I mean spontaneously, I mean that he has said he would never ever cruise again (from 30 yrs ago!). And he's an engineer by trade... spontaneous is not in his vocabulary! When we watched your cruiseplum video... we only had the IDEA to look at cruising to London (to meet friends and further go onto Edinburgh) instead of flying. And low and behold, he is reading all the perks on Norwegian and gets fired up at the value.. and boom, we're booked! And yes, we booked the cheapest stateroom! This is his celebratory retirement cruise as he's retiring in March at the ripe young age of 62. Perhaps the planning of and for this trip will help him realize he is actually retiring because up until now, it has only seemed like a fantasy ;-) I have never cruised myself so this will be an amazing trip and ports of call. We will be using it for a precursor to see where we want to slow travel to next. Thanks for your fabulous content! PS, Norwegian should throw you guys a check!

You may have convinced me! I've always felt that I'm not a cruise person, but I am willing to give it a try. I do worry about one thing you mentioned in another video: getting sick. I'm immunocompromised due to medications that I take. I'm always concerned about that when I travel but it would be a lot tougher on a ship. I think you make cruising seem exciting and affordable though, so I may have to buy an extra large vat of hand sanitizer and get on board! 😀

    • @2GoRoam
      @2GoRoam  6 месяцев назад +1

That is s good point Mel. Yes, be armed with the hand sanitiser and maybe a mask when in busy areas!

We've done both, excursions and self-exploring. The excursions are a safety net so you get back on time and if you don't, you won't be left behind. (Although, I don't know that they'd actually leave anyone behind.) For self-explore or a hybrid version, you can ask the ship's onshore staff to point you to a taxi driver/local guide. They will take you around. That being said, some have a set agenda and will still make you stop at stores where they get a kick back. Different perspectives on this. I prefer a local guide who will discuss an itinerary with us based on what we want to see. They make suggestions and we agree or disagree. Come to a final determination about the itinerary and then off we go. The biggest mistake for some cruisers, IMHO, is staying around the cruise port. In many cases, the cruise port is a "Disneyland" version of the country. The same shops at each port. I don't want to travel somewhere just to sit and drink at Margaritaville. I want to experience the destination. The downside to cruising for me, is that the stops at each port are often too short. Sometimes a few hours, sometimes several hours, but always, in my experience, only one day and then you're off to the next place. I'd like to spend a little more time in each port, or at least some of them, so I can have a more well rounded experience. However, at least with a cruise, I've enjoyed my "sampler platter" of destinations and I can take note of where I'd like to come back in the future for a deeper dive.

On an earlier video you mentioned the need to have digital copies of a marriage certificate and a birth certificate. Is that really necessary and if so are there specific countries that require those documents as a condition for entry?

I have to say we have never been fans of cruises. But I could see it used in potentially 2 circumstances.
1st: Repositioning, as a recharge from the hustle of flying in a slow travel itinerary.
2nd: Mini Exploritory, Kind of a boots on the ground for a 3-8 hour independent vacation. Take a swim, surf, find those great mom & pop places. Out side the tourist traps as long as time permits.
These two seem to take more pre planning than those just stuff yourself into a food coma at the buffet type cruises.
But using cruises as Repositioning transportation and mini exploratory means to an end... that might have merit.
    New to the channel.
    Cheers from Florida. 🌞🌊🏄‍♂️🏄‍♀️🏝🦈🐊🏖🐬🦩👍💪

I’m wondering about your sense of freedom - to an outsider it doesn’t look or feel like freedom….. it seems like work to me with a huge amount of admin/project management/optimisation. I’d love you to do an experiment- do nothing ‘YT- work’ related for a week, simply read fiction/ listen to music/socialise/dance/be creative….it might give you a new perspective. Best wishes.

Hi I saw your video on your healthcare experience in Malaysia. We have a few things in common. I have high BP and even on meds i'm about 140/90 range and I have the dizzy thing going on also but mines is more of feeling like the world is tilted. I call it vertigo but not really sure if it is that. I say all of that to say this and if you can't tell me in this format. I can give you my email...What were you diagnosed with and prescribed that helped you with your dizziness?

I enjoy your videos but on this one, I couldn't disagree more. I have met so many cruisers in various ports that would like to stay a few more hours, to see a show, watch a parade, visit a village nearby, and so on, but they can't, they are tied to the ship. And let's face it, the cruise company want you on board buying their drinks, their upcharge meals, their tightly controlled, (and expensive) excursions. If you say that the cruise ship itself is your destination, then fine, but don't say that you get to see "all these other places" because you just don't have time.

Definitely not a cruiser. Too restrictive, you really don’t get to see much. Sorry this video didn’t convince me.
