    I think it’s gonna be fine, but I have some issues with how far the hunter appears to slide across the floor when they get hit along with how floaty the combat looks. I would like to try it out, but I currently have way too many games in my queue and I don’t feel super inclined to add this one for now.

      I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit $40 by this summer. A big sale+full crossplay means you shouldn't have to worry about it being dead within the next year or so. Also the weapon crafting system means you'll even see people go back and fight lower rank monsters, so that should help some too!

    Game looks interesting, but Origin based launch and EA as a publisher is a death knell for me.
    Origin is an orange themed bloat ware program, and EA as a publisher will corrupt the game. It is inevitable. Not a matter of if, but when.
    But I do agree that Rise needs to be go back to some of its more crusty routes in order to gain back some tension in the hunts.
    Longer paced hunts, with not as many options for dodging damage, or just healing through it.

    Thanks for the information! I can’t wait to play it when I get home from work tomorrow! I want to use the Parasol as my main. Does it play similar to a lance? I saw it has some blocking it can do.

    • @SDShepard
      @SDShepard  Год назад +5

      It's one of the most mobile weapons in the game, so I wouldn't really compare it to lance outside of them both having the counter. Even more so, the umbrella has a very tight parry window compared to the extremely generous window on lance. To me, it's going to be the last weapon I master, as I'll want to have a lot of muscle memory from fighting the monsters before I try to parry as opposed to dodge/slide out of the wya.

    I really want to play this game, but I doubt my gtx 1070 will run it well enough if some people can't run it 60fps with gtx 3060. And looking at streams it has a lot of weird bugs. Character going invisible or sound other than music disappearing. So if they at least optimize it more so I can run it, I will buy it.
    And what comes to the fortnite spam, it looks pretty strong with bow.

      I've been playing it on a 1070, it runs okay? Had to do low settings across the board and it still feels not fantastic, but is playable. The devs have said they will be releasing a patch next week that should address some of the performance issues so hopefully that pushes it from running just okay to running fine.

    I think your point isn't really fair.
    MH laid a lot of fundations that WH uses, and WH makes a good use of a lot of other games tools. It's a good thing ! But some WH devices are direct answers to problem MH found in a first time by exploring away what the "Hunter-like" can be.
    For example, the GS in MH really have a "before the tackle" era and a "with the tackle" era that kind of split the weapon in two for some people. The GS in WH answers the "how to make the GS moveset scale with the more dynamic gameplay ?" question differently (by letting you charge while moving) because it saw the shortcoming of MHW/MHR answer before it.
    MHR isn't representative of "what MH is now and forever" because it's a "portable serie" game, not a "main serie" game like World is. MHGU already was more flashy and over the top than MH4U, like MHR is to MHW. MHW2 or whatever next main serie MH game will release will probably have progressive potion drinking and emphasis on positioning.
    EA wouldn't have bet on this horse it this wasn't laid out as a MH killer. It's only logical they directly adress all the problem recent MH title have to look better. WH is still new, and MH has a new title in the work already. Both can coexist and MH will probably learn a lot from finally having a decent competitor, but WH isn't strictly better, it's just more adequate to current expectations.
    WH still have problems that MH have also, it isn't all shiny, and it's not just PC ports. Monsters running far away in a scripted manner still isn't fun. But WH is giving answers to the Hunter like genra that will allow MH to learn and try new things as well.

    • @SDShepard
      @SDShepard  Год назад +2

      It's more out of an abundance of caution that I mention it. You may have missed it, but they migrated Origin to EA Launcher (I think that's the official name?). It's more so that it's 100% required, and for anyone that's trying to squeak by on minimal specs, it's yet another thing they need to have open that could be draining resources.

      There's a good variety of subspecies that fight pretty dramatically different to their main counterpart. The immediate danger etc is gone from 5th gen MH overall because Capcom is catering to a wider audience. If you make games for everyone you make games for no one. No surprise WH is making some people feel it's more MH than even MHW/Iceborne and Rise/Sunbreak. I don't entirely agree with that though. Some people think MH6 should drop sharpness and carving etc and I say no to that.

      It's still very much it's own game, albeit in the hunting genre. People are pretty desperate to say things like "what's the lance? what's the greatsword? what's the hammer?" Sure, there are rough analogs, but let the game have its own identity. You're not going to get anything 1-1.

    I usually really enjoy your reviews for your honesty.
    However with this one you've made some statements disproven by your very streams.
    Rise slows you down for the first bit of consuming a potion, same as the whole potions you leisurely consumed in Wild Hearts because the Kemono couldn't walk around the corner. You yourself praised Sunbreak for the anomaly system keeping monsters relevant into the later stages of the postgame and now you claim the opposite.
    Wild Hearts seemed like a game with many good points you stated in the review. I don't understand why you go out of your way to badmouth Rise especially with statements that contradict things you previously said.
    It's great to see you enjoy Wild Hearts, it's not great you seem to feel the need to talk negatively about other games to express it.

    • @SDShepard
      @SDShepard  Год назад +4

      I did some actual testing for this one:
      Max Potion in Rise: 1.75 seconds, you can do a brisk run, and you can evade to cancel (total of 7 can be carried at a time, full restock in camp)
      Mega Potion in Rise: 2.70 seconds, roughly 10 health immediately, going up to about 100 health total, brisk run, and you can evade to cancel (total of 20 can be carried at a time, full restock in camp)
      Healing Water in Wild Hearts: 2.75 seconds, 50 health that recovers rapidly late in the animation, option to drink another immediately, slow walk, no cancelling with an evade (restocks from plants are 2, restocks from trees are 10. Currently carrying 15.)
      As for drinking behind a wall, I showed early monsters. Many monsters, especially in later chapters, will gladly jump over or break the barrier, and that's assuming you even have the resources to build a wall. I have something like 3,000+ hours in Rise. It's by all accounts a great game. But it's just way less challenging in this one aspect, and I enjoy the challenge. Title Update 1 was great, but rather than have consistent events, the modern title update system from 2-4 is "drop 2-3 monsters, and add about 40+ hours of grinding done optimally by fighting one monster." It's gotten worse, not better, since the first title update.

      @@SDShepard I watched you fight Amaterasu who didn't chase if you were outside the platform. Pretty much the same as zoning in old MH. Amaterasu even went back to its base position. The ice wolf also didn't follow on multiple occasions.
      How the Kemono interact with Karakuri like the wall was something I thought you pointed out well.
      The health comparison is a little off given the difference in max health but the no cancelling part would've been good to point out imo.
      I do wonder about that only grinding a single monster being optimal claim though since there are a bunch of materials you'd miss out on that way which are required for augmenting.
      Thank you for answering to my comment! You cleared up a few points that made the review seem less trustworthy and I appreciate that!

    • @SDShepard
      @SDShepard  Год назад

      I mean for the title updates, the best "roll" you can get for AR grinding is 25 minutes/2 players/1 cart (you can only have two I believe) for the max current A* level available. Once you get one like that, all you're doing is slowing yourself down by mixing around and doing other quests. Yeah, you'll be missing some of the other materials along the way. But to get all drops, you gotta get to near the top of the AR.

    • @4ny3ody
