- The Hidden Secret of Finger Slings: Boost Your Archery Skills
A finger sling in archery is a small but important accessory used by archers. It is a simple loop of cord or material that attaches to the bow and is worn around one or two fingers of the hand that holds the bow (usually the index and middle fingers). The purpose of a finger sling is to prevent the bow from falling out of the hand upon releasing the arrow.
When an archer shoots an arrow, the ideal technique involves relaxing the grip on the bow. This relaxation ensures minimal hand torque, which can otherwise affect the arrow's flight. However, completely relaxing the grip without a sling would mean the bow could drop or slip out of the hand. The finger sling solves this problem by catching the bow, allowing the archer to maintain a loose grip without the risk of dropping it.
Finger slings are adjustable and come in various materials and colours. They are popular among Olympic-style recurve archers but might not be as commonly used in other forms of archery, like compound bow shooting or traditional archery.
