Another great video, I LOVE the economy base vehicle videos. It’s honestly the price range most viewers are really at if they watching their wallets. Great job and thank you.
I’m feeling the 2017 impression for more than seven years now. With 120,000 miles on it, I’ve absolutely enjoyed each of them. Great video by the way. 👏🙌
As a 2024 impreza owner I must say I actually love the car way more than I expected. I bought it just as my bad weather\daily car and to have something to pass down to my daughter in a few years. I drive performance cars most of the time, but like to have something more practical for other occasions, so I picked up the Impreza RS. I am a hardcore manual trans guy, so I was mostly concerned about the DREADED CVT everybody whines about. I gotta say, I have no problems with it. The car is soooo smooth. The CVT means the car can make the most of its low horsepower and make it move better than it should considering how weak the engine output is. That being said, I feel the 2.5 engine is the only way to go in the Impreza. Sure the 2.0 models are all cheaper, but when I compared the RS to the sport trim, which is very similar except the sport has the smaller engine. It was a night and day difference. The 2.0 just isnt enough power.
I think the Mazda 3 AWD made this car interior look like it came 10 years ago... Is just a different league but with a price point that's not even that far from each other.
I mean, an extra $6k can usually make a significant difference regardless of the vehicle. If you have $30k+ to spend, then the Mazda 3 AWD is the better choice.
I really love the looks of this Impreza, but I really wish the RS had a manual and was given a 91oct tune to bump it to 195-200HP. It would then be much closer to the Si fighter many were expecting it would be. As someone looking for something that handles well, is in the 200-220HP range, seats 4 and has AWD, those 2 changes would have made the Impreza RS the perfect car for me. Instead, the closest to my wants are the Si, GLI and Integra. All of which sadly lack AWD. There is the Audi A3, but not a fan of the price.
I agree. Wish it had a manual, but of the cars listed the RS is the best car for the price by a long shot. The CVT is surprisingly not bad. I have no complaints with my RS. It also isnt my only car. I have other cars\toys for going fast. Thats not the job for the RS. It is the grocery getter, kid hauler, bad weather beast that still looks cool and isnt a total turd.
Subaru adding the nostalgic RS badge to the lineup hints at owners modding it for local rally or fun sport driving, like they did with the early 2000s RS. Unfortunately, the lack of a manual transmission option and the addition of all the nanny-functions kind of precludes owners from making any worthwhile mods to it. The old RS was easy to mod as an OEM+ because it shared a lot of parts with the WRX and STi of the time, which is no longer the case. That leaves the 2025 RS as just a punchy version of a capable commuter car, for those of us that drive the FB20 and say "if only it had a little more power..." It says a lot that Subaru loaded the RS with accessories that used to be available in the Sport, making the RS trim desirable for more than just the motor, but leaving the Sport trim spartan compared to previous model years.
@slosubies4845 People only rallied the original RS because we didn't get the WRX in the USA at that point. It was never meant to be anything great, and honestly it wasnt. It was just all we had to work with. If you want to rally, buy a WRX. Lots of old names come back just be be nothing like the original. Integra, Supra, Maverick, Dart, those are entire models that are nothing like they used to be. For a trim to stray from its roots by coming with a different transmission, overall I feel thats not that bad.
Thanks for the review, nice to see a review of entry level cars. The 2.0 with a manual was fine for acceleration but the CVT really hurts it. Interesting to see if Subaru adopts the eCVT in their upcoming hybrid.
I’m curious what they will do too. I think they’d have to use an E-cvt IF they’re going with a Toyota hybrid system (the hybrid max system wouldn’t make sense). Though I’ve heard that they are still going to use the Subaru awd system so that’s going to take some serious modification!
Everything we've heard so far is that Subaru is using a differential and not Toyota's e-AWD system, but the rumor is that the differential will not be traditional Subaru-sized and will be somewhere in-between e-AWD and Symmetrical. If Subaru were using their existing CVTs, that would not be a necessary step, but it seems a smaller diff might be a better pairing with Toyota's eCVT, which has not been paired with a traditional diff so far (at least, not recently).
Ewww no. That makes you a minority in the car world. Nobody likes to turn a key anymore. It is life hanging to use proximity keys. The gonin your pocket\purse\whatever and never come out. It os one of the best modern features added to cars and I wouldnt buy a car without it.
We purchased a base 2024 Impreza three months ago and are very satisfied with it. Had the Corolla hatchback still been available with a manual transmission, the Toyota would have been our first choice, but found that the Subaru’s transmission is much more responsive (for a CVT) and gives an overall much smoother drive.
@@cerinawoehrley4199It does use a physical 1st gear but there is no proof it will last any longer. Toyota quality is not what it used to be. They currently have way more recalls and quality problems than Subaru. The Impreza offers WAY more interior room and cargo space as well. Not to mention the best AWD systems on the market are Subaru. Toyota isnt even real AWD. It is FWD with a tiny battery driven electric motor for the rear wheels that doesnt actually work well in severe conditions. The only thing the Toyota is better at IMO is gas mileage.
cuz the crosstrek plugin didn't sell well. if the toyota licensed hybrid system in the new Forrester sells well, then maybe it will trickle down 2026 crosstrek, etc etc.
I have the RS which is said to get 1 MPG worse than the lower 2.0 trims. I pretty consistently get 30mpg on average. Sure thats no hybrid numbers but that is still better than an SUV and on par with most crossovers. You have to remember that while this is called a car you get far more useable space than any crossover, to the point it is almost as useable as an SUV. Also full-time AWD that is best in the industry.
Meh. There's nothing there that makes me want to consider trading in my (100k mile) 2020 Sport hatchback. Aside from the 2.5L motor and larger screen, my 2020 is loaded with pretty much all of the features you get in the 2025 RS; I also have a true handbrake and a donut spare. MSRP didn't go up much, but Subaru did cut production costs. Can Subaru just bring back a WRX hatchback, please? I would agree that the very successful Crosstrek has probably cut into Impreza sales, is it's a very similar vehicle but even more capable (ride height, more than one trim with the 2.5L, Wilderness trim available) for not much more money. The main weakness of Subarus in winter weather has been ground clearance, and the Crosstrek solves that issue over the Impreza.
Love your reviews but making headgasket comment feels like a cheap shot. It’s irrelevant in 2024. The EJ25 series of engine that had headgasket problems hasn’t been installed in a Subaru since 2012.
I don’t like bringing it up either, I only brought it up to say that it was fixed and not an issue through the entire generation. Some people don’t know that and will comment it because this is a Subaru video and I mentioned longevity! I won’t bring it up next time to test the waters.
@@Realistickgood point, I see where you’re coming from. We’ve been a Subaru family since the 80s so I probably know more about them and the nuances than the average person.
I appreciate that you go the extra mile and state the reliability of vehicles. Many reviewers do not do this considering how important it is.

The infotainment doesn’t look all that great either on the subaru
They really need to hire new user experience designers for their digital experiences
The Mazda is so incredibly tiny inside though it’s insane
The Mazda 3’s exterior ruined the potential for the car because everything else about it is great.
Your videos are getting really good. I enjoyed this one as a Crosstrek owner. You're going to get t0 100K subscribers in no time.

Why though? The higher trims are already as expensive as they are.

Excellent review, Tyler. Would you buy the Impreza or the Corolla LE? Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks, happy thanksgiving to you too! I’d probably go Corolla LE Hybrid AWD for the efficiency and added features but it would be a tough decision.

Needs a manual transmission CVT's are awful. Inexpensive vehicles will save automakers.
The reason: cheapest awd new vehicle.
Added plus to seal the deal: great mpg for awd gas only and relatively reliable if you don't push the engine.
I'll need car play. Would definitely love to drive one of these vs my 03 v6 camry. Almost $50/week for a full tank 🤯

No more CVT
Instant like with the intro…made of stainless steel and insecurities 😂😂😂
The Crosstrek is the expensive version of this. But the ‘24 Impreza lacks a spare tire.
An RS with a CVT. Should’ve just used the auto from the BRZ
Fuel economy is probably its biggest downfall. But, hybrids are coming, so Im hopeful with the next generation. Overall, it is a good car.

Front and rear end looks way better than the WRX. 6 speed manual will make the RS fun, turbo would make this a hot hatch.
Why do the older one look soo much cooler?
Great value for money.
Love the car but hate the lack of physical hvac controls
