The mask is absolutely maddening and also (I'm surprised wasn't mentioned) how the Myers house was so off. It was completely different and like some big Victorian home, nothing like in the original, especially noticable when you see Dr. Loomis talking to Michael on top of the staircase about ending "the rage".

I also love how when Jamie first goes into the laundry shoot there is a door to the left but then when she gets out of the shoot they are in a completely different house because the door is gone.

The only things that makes this movie watchable are Donald Pleasence's brilliance, Danielle Harris performance, and most of the kills are good. I really really hate the attic scene with emotional Myers. That is straight up Rob Zombie Myers right there. A few fun facts: - Billy was actually killed in the original script but they thought it was too extreme, so they just had him get nicked by the car. (but by now we know Michael does kill kids) - Don Shanks, who plays Myers, used a real knife to stab that garbage shoot, with Danielle clinging inside without safety ropes. - The Tina actress was in fact freaked out by Don in the car scene :p - Don said he felt that black car had a weird vibe to it. He later found out that the owner of the car in real life was a girl who had committed suicide inside the car. - The scene where Loomis beats up Myers with the plank, he turned the plank at some point and broke Don's nose. I really fucking feel bad for the character of Jamie. If you think about it, her parents die, 11 months later she's attacked by Myers. She goes into a psychotic state of mind and stabs her adoptive mother. Spends the next year in a children's hospital only to be attacked again. She has witnessed so many friends and family be killed off. Loomis using her as bait must have been horrifying, and after all of that she is taken into captivity for the next six years where at one point she's either impregnated or flat out raped by her uncle. And dies shortly after escaping. The movies gave her no peace, wished she could have just been in a coma for the sixth film after being attacked (had they went along with the producers cut and had her stabbed instead of shredded on farm equipment). Just wished she had gotten some closure, but the filmmakers and especially the director of Curse of Michael Myers didn't give a fuck, so they just did whatever popped into their head that would translate to bullshit onscreen.
It's a lackluster movie that kinda sucks. There's a lotta bad stuff going on here. But Loomis and Danielle Harris are still spot-on. They're still selling it. They save it for me. It's no H4.. but decent enough. This commentary definitely helps, boys.

I watched an interview with the guy who played Micheal myers in this novie he was saying that in the original script micheal was brought back from the dead by witchcraft and thats how he ended up with the tattoo ect. But they cut idea i give it a 7

Aside from the mask, which has kind of grown on me over the years, and the cop sound effects, I really enjoy this movie. The mask here is actually better than the alien one in 4. In regards to how dumb the cops are, if you think about it, a lot of the cops were killed in 4, only 1 year prior. So they would probably take every moron from the academy to fill their ranks. Mike is right, the man in Black was really interesting in this film and you wonder the entire time what he is doing. I also think this is scarier than 4, as almost right away Rachel is killed. It lets you know nobody is off limits. I really like the first act revolving around the house and Michael inside it. And LOOMIS OWNED THIS MOVIE. This would not have worked without him pulling it along. And I loved his final confrontation with Michael. He gave it everything he had. Poor Loomis... lastly, the ending. I love the shot of Michael twiddling his chains. It gives you the impression that he was in full control the entire time, aside from his moment with Jamie. Very reminiscent of Darth Maul at the end of TPM pacing back and forth. Danielle Harris’s last line just saying no is chilling. I enjoy this more than H4 and I give it an 8. Mike is right, this is a severely underrated entry in Halloween. I always look forward to H5 in my marathons.
And it doesn't help that she was replaced by the annoying Tina who cared more about fucking her boyfriend than protecting Jamie whereas with Rachel Jamie was always her top priority.

I agree with you on everything beside the fact that I love that Michael wears a 2nd mask. It reminds me of the original film, in that in the 1978 film it honestly feels like the idea of "trick or treat" is in Michael's mind. Like the sheet ghost in the original.

Now the we have the shit storm that is H5 out of the way, can't wait for H6. I think that might be my favorite of the franchise aside from the original.
Totally agree with Jay. H5 was cheap and nasty coming off the back of a masterpiece sequel H4. H5, the story was loose as German Shizer Beats in a dive euro techno bar. Tina was the most annoying character. And killing off Rachel made me hate this movie. The mask was the worst too. But it's saved by Donald Pleasence's performance, which was outstanding. But I hated the other characters in this movie.
I call this mask the Jimmy Durante version. I've seen all the Halloween films in the theater (showing my age here) and while the Zombie ones definitely garnered some walk outs, I think Halloween 5 holds the record for the worst crowd reaction I've ever seen when the credits rolled. It was literally a loud chorus of boos. The passage of time, more inferior entries getting made, and the traditional broadcast on cable stations has given it the audience it has today. Plenty of fans now for this movie. But when it was the latest and greatest, it shut down the franchise for a while. I think regardless of what people think of the mask or casting choices, what still resonates with allot of Halloween aficionados' is how much this film disregards what is canon in the series. From the Myers house or the depiction of Michael, to the insertion of clown music for comedic relief, this movie pretty much abandons fan expectations and paid royally for it. It goes without saying the Akkad camp took their lumps and learned to never veer this far off script again. You can offer some new ideas, which cause its own divisions, but don't piss on the source material.
What? Halloween 5 adheres more closely to the original motif than most of the other sequels. Certainly more so than anything since. Go back and watch the '78 original...what set Myers apart? He was the ultimate STALKER...2 and 4 display some of this nature...and H20 got back to it somewhat...but 5 was the DEFINITIVE incarnation of Michael Myers as the Bogeyman in the closet....always on the periphery, always silently waiting, always lurking...THAT'S what set him apart in '78, and it's an approach that most of the sequels lacked the skill....or patience...to truly capture. Halloween 5 was committed to respecting that approach in a way that no other Halloween film has displayed. It has 'the audience it has today' because it is a masterpiece. Hardly because of the passage of time.

I agree with you on everything beside the fact that I love that Michael wears a 2nd mask. It reminds me of the original film, in that in the 1978 film it honestly feels like the idea of "trick or treat" is in Michael's mind. Like the sheet ghost in the original.

So this vid was made before anyone seen the new one. Based on that I agree w J. He doesn't kill children (minus the ice skate to Joseph Gordon Levitts skull but he was at least a freshman) . And he waited till Daniel harris was old enuff to buy alcohol b4 killing her in RZ 2 hehehe. However , we all seen him break a child's back in halloween 2018 ..that kid was young af...prob his youngest victim to date....he could of easily took the car w out snapping his spine.. I would have ended the story line once Lumos fell on my Michael because that would have still kept the franchise going because micheal of course would not have died but I would take away the whole cult thing and the guy with the weird shoes out because It would honestly have made more sense but I still like the 5th one just not the mask

I hate this movie! Hate it with a passion. Tina is an idiot. I couldn't stand her. Wanted everyone dead but Loomis and Jamie. Burn that mask.
But you guys did a great job making it interesting and fun. Jay, in the parody, sounds just like Loomis with the "Die die die" at the end.
Now the we have the shit storm that is H5 out of the way, can't wait for H6. I think that might be my favorite of the franchise aside from the original.

Totally agree with Jay. H5 was cheap and nasty coming off the back of a masterpiece sequel H4. H5, the story was loose as German Shizer Beats in a dive euro techno bar. Tina was the most annoying character. And killing off Rachel made me hate this movie. The mask was the worst too. But it's saved by Donald Pleasence's performance, which was outstanding. But I hated the other characters in this movie.

As sequels go, H4 was like the Aliens or T2: Judgment Day of horror movies.
Halloween 5 was the masterpiece. 4 made several critical mistakes that 5 corrected. 5 REDEEMED 4...

I call this mask the Jimmy Durante version. I've seen all the Halloween films in the theater (showing my age here) and while the Zombie ones definitely garnered some walk outs, I think Halloween 5 holds the record for the worst crowd reaction I've ever seen when the credits rolled. It was literally a loud chorus of boos.
The passage of time, more inferior entries getting made, and the traditional broadcast on cable stations has given it the audience it has today. Plenty of fans now for this movie. But when it was the latest and greatest, it shut down the franchise for a while.
I think regardless of what people think of the mask or casting choices, what still resonates with allot of Halloween aficionados' is how much this film disregards what is canon in the series. From the Myers house or the depiction of Michael, to the insertion of clown music for comedic relief, this movie pretty much abandons fan expectations and paid royally for it.
It goes without saying the Akkad camp took their lumps and learned to never veer this far off script again. You can offer some new ideas, which cause its own divisions, but don't piss on the source material.
What? Halloween 5 adheres more closely to the original motif than most of the other sequels. Certainly more so than anything since. Go back and watch the '78 original...what set Myers apart? He was the ultimate STALKER...2 and 4 display some of this nature...and H20 got back to it somewhat...but 5 was the DEFINITIVE incarnation of Michael Myers as the Bogeyman in the closet....always on the periphery, always silently waiting, always lurking...THAT'S what set him apart in '78, and it's an approach that most of the sequels lacked the skill....or patience...to truly capture. Halloween 5 was committed to respecting that approach in a way that no other Halloween film has displayed.
It has 'the audience it has today' because it is a masterpiece. Hardly because of the passage of time.
