The lifters are normally spongy when new once the engine is built up the oil pressure fills them up, engines are normally slow to start because of the valves only partially open till oil pressure builds up then the hydraulic lifters start to do there job.
I don't think used oil is the way to go, but ok.. In any case, if I was in your shoes, I would use the pre lubrication purple oil for engine rebuilds. Also, because I saw your videos until now about the cyl head, I would used, a dremel tool with some metal brushes to clean the tough spots in the head. Those brushes are soft although metalic and they can clean metal sirfaces with ease and almost without scratches.
Good video on how to clean the inside of the hydraulic lifters. Does the engine/car shop manual tells you to bleed out the lifters before the installation? I will be cleaning the hydraulic lifters in my Mitsubishi Pajero iO 2.0 gdi and the shop manual says that the lifters must be cleaned in diesel fuel and then installed with diesel fuel inside (no air is allowed at all). The main reason why the lifters make ticking noise is because they got air trapped in them. So, I would recommend doing a further research whether you install them full with oil ( or diesel fuel) or not.
I’ve got this weird issue with hydraulic lifters, they seem to be pumping up too much whilst the engine is running. I have one cylinder that has no compression but when I bleed the oil out of the lifters and reinstall them the compression comes back. Don’t understand how it’s happening!
Use diesel fuel, submerge pump as long as the old oil deposits will come out then leave them in clean diesel over night and do the same in the morning and .they will be like new. After cleaning prime with new clean oil and install. Don't install them full of air or in short time they will be tapping again !!!
1. Do you have to be delicate when hitting the purge valve otherwise you could damage it pressing it too deep. 2. You do NOT want to purge them and install then. There supposed to be firm against the rocker arms. (Think about the fact that every single time you start your vehicle these lash adjusters are already filled with oil). When you buy them they are usually filled with a manufacturers oil. I could understand if you want to purge that small amount of machine oil out, for the type of oil the engine uses (5w-20, 0w-20, etc), but that's about the only time I would purge them.
Replace the the lifters always. Soak new ones in kerosene and wd 40 for one day and install with assembly lube in opening please or they will stick again da
You are the only one .I couldfind that showed me hoe to release seized lifters fair play and keep doing what your doing spot on
There should be no rebound feel on the plunger when it's primed according to the workshop manual.

This is THE video I’ve been looking for.
Thank you!!!
No problem thanks

thanks for the tip. i did the best i could with pressure washer and now the head is assembled
Thanks I was wondering y my new lifter was so stiff it wouldn’t move.
Me too…i was about to spend 80 dollars on a new set👀this guy saved me cash✊🏽
Good detail. This is what I needed

Good question. I have no shop manual. Just going from Google research.
where did you get the shop manual for the Pajero iO 2.0 GDI?
I also need one because I am restoring one. thanks in advance
hello, it's normal that on my bmw 335i n55 the hydraulic tappet after bleeding with oil the tappet becomes very hard and doesn't move a bit?
What happens if you have a few stiff lifters and you instal them ?

did you find the problem ? I think it got stuck in one position.
Well done ...finally someone gets it right ..thank you my friend...
Hey thanks!!!! Sub for support!

So do you have to put oil or not ? Or you mean to push it down and let the air out of it ?
Do the lifters go back in a certain way? I noticed a small hole on the side body of the lifter and wondered if that needs to align to something.
No that small hole maintains oil pressure

Can this cause a lifter tick? I did bleed them before installing because I thought I supposed to.
Yeah that's what I was thinking while sitting here laughing.
What is the name of the fluid used in cleaning the hydraulic lifters
You can use acetone or break cleaner.
Would a malfunctioning lifter cause a constant miss on one cylinder?
It may
Thanks for the reply, I have a 2grfe with vvt , I think the lifters are self adjusting. Do you know if there is a check valve in the lifter
Clean it to just put old oil back in the lifter... nice work
This engine will not be running again. I didn’t mind. As long as it’s lubricated.
Replace the the lifters always. Soak new ones in kerosene and wd 40 for one day and install with assembly lube in opening please or they will stick again da
thank you
When reinstall the lifter ! is there specific direction the littlie side hole in them should be?
Nope
I needed this video.thank you.
Welcome
You have to hit the right spot. That's what she said! lol
I swear the entire video bleeding the lifters sounds like someone fapping
Can I clean the lifters with brake clean?
Shouldnt be a problem.
Very informative
Thanks!
