You should keep doing these vids for more brands, I find them fascinating:) especially cuz I feel us American players’ reeds relate differently with scale and feel compared to people playing short scrape. You can adjust the pitch of the E with the height of the D key screw if that relationship feels weird. I didn’t know until someone pointed it out to me- because I agree that’s something I listen for on an oboe too! :) getting tuning work done is a chore after the fact. It’s so interesting. Nicholas Daniel switched to Loree after playing on Goossens oboe- there is a more free blowing quality and color to Loree in a sense, that he decided to switch. I feel many others brands are a bit tighter in the feel like you said - because the short scrape crows are often really raucous, so the oboe kind of reigns it in. Lorees kind of sing in a way, but the reed has to be more together I’ve felt, which does create a different core to the sound, that I like. Oddly, I feel some instruments record better but in person or in the hall sound very different. Like Yamahas sound really nice on recordings and tapes, but have less dimension in person and live ive felt. I struggle to sometimes just get that generally appealing matted/dark sound on Loree, but I feel they have much more dimension to the sound in person when I hear them played live. I love these videos. Keep them coming!! :) you might like to try Bulgheroni too for a video 😊

The Marigaux oboes are simply THE BEST! Nothing compares to the 901. But wait until you hear the M2 with the new Marigaux superleggera staples. WOW!

@@nathanielholden9783 The response is immediate and very free. They resonate like crazy! Brilliant, super-thin walled tubes. The problem is that you have to order them directly from Europe as no one in the USA stocks them. Try oboe-shop.de and reedsnstuff.com

Very nice video. I guess it’s possible that the tone of the Marigaux would open up over a period of several months, although for that much money I’d have to really, really love it. I do love the smell of a new oboe, it’s like new car smell....

Hello Mr. Oboe files guy, I have been playing oboe for 5 years and I love to watch and learn more stuff with your videos. Is it possible you could make a video on using cheap oboe reed making videos. I would love to start making reeds, but I don’t have the finances to do so. Doing a cheap reed kit review would be helpful. Thanks the consideration, and I love the videos.

I love my Marigaux. Mellow, dark focused sound. Nothing like my Loree. I switched to Marigaux in 1999.

If you check the Marigaux website you would find that the second head joint is made of a composite material, for practice with less chance of splits.

I bought an M2 and got the S & M top joints. Both were wood. I wanted a synthetic too joint so purchased it separately. 🤷🏼

i really like these videos! i love reviews that give a lot of insight, i think the ultimate oboe would be a marigaux oboe with the m2 bore but wit full automatic octaves, ofc with the m2 desing that would be impossible, maybe if they make it in a synthetic material it would be possible

Hello, I own a Marigaux M2 and I feel it has some problems with accuracy while I’m playing the notes G and #F. I need to play these two notes very carefully to make sure that they won’t be too high, but with any other models I’ve played like josef and buffet even Yamaha won’t have such problems. This problem has been haunting me since the April of last year when I bought it.
In the January two professional players from Beijing came to my city and they tried my instrument, one of them indicated that my instrument had problems but the other said it was a general phenomenon of this model and only can be solved by the player itself. I would like to know if your M2 has the same problem because there are few oboists have the opportunity to own a M2 and I’m the only one in my conservatory.

Hmmm I do not play the M2 regularly but you can have these two notes adjusted by a skilled repair person

Great video presentation! I definitely prefer the more complex tone of the Marigaux to that of the Loree. I think the sound produced by many American Loree players resembles a saxophone sound. There's just no comparison to the absolutely gorgeous tone produced by the short-scrape reed and Marigaux instrument for example of Celine Moinet. It's like Schellenberger said one time, "Is this really the sound Americans are trying to achieve?" And I would ask WHY?
Thank you for this excellent presentation.

      Thank you!

This is Nick Deutsch playing Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring with VOCES8. Nick is playing on an M2. This performance is comparable for the piece in question. Nick is one of Australia's greatest oboists and is professor at the conservatorium in Leipzig set up by Mendelsohn.
