Please don't try to ruin our cap.
He does. It’s called “captain disillusion” and it’s on RUclips.
This channel has the strange effect of making me believe that I can create. The tone is welcoming and inclusive with just the right amount of tongue and cheek commentary. Thanks for making me believe I can be a creator.
Michael Gangnath that’s what’s so cool about D. I have a feeling that he would end up like Bill Nye, a universal figure of information
Same here. So much so that I went ahead and downloaded all of the tools I needed, then proceeded to really put the work in...
...and realized just how shitty I am at this stuff.
YES. YES. YES.
Everyone’s bad on their first day. The Captain’s been doing this for years by this point.
@@brettvv7475 keep up the great work. If you ever post anything you want to show off, comment back here and I'd love to check it out! :D

Love the addition of the old RUclips logo transforming into the new one at 8:49.
8:48 for those who don't want to go looking for it
Wait, where?
i hate the new layout...
That's an official graphic/gif, I think
AnUntitledPicture yeah I think he just took the gif that YT provided when they announced the logo change
For those of you wondering 3:05 that’s a Diamond Select 1/15 Scale Hover Conversion Replica. It even has flip down wheels, Sound Effects, and Flux, Headlights, and Thruster Lights. Very cool toy.
You should do a series where you go back to old fake videos and edit them to make them more convincing
And then He could debunk them in the future again!
@@marving.8868 "I make my own economy" -Soos
I would SO watch a remake of Back to the Future. It would be a nice break from all the marvel stuff. Don´t get me wrong, I´ve been a fan since the comic books for X-men came out, but even I have had enough of the same old stories.. If we have to reheat old narratives, why not this one?
He doesn't edit other people's work like that....he just makes a new video himself replicating it without replicating the same mistakes.
@@Ludifant marvel is more of a fanatic-comic hype or a trend if u like rather than really good movies, with dc it toke a really big pile of shit for community to backlash with suicide squad , after iron man 1 there wasn't anything extraordinary in cinematic-point of view, even the joker of DC who made it really good in sales, its not about how much we love a story or a character but how the whole movie is performed, eg, i would rather NOT see another btf go down to the road as Terminator 7, (nothing to do about feminism conspiracy theories like some claim also for end game which i also didn't like it that much) even tho still i am huge fan of mcu

The Doctor. simply The Doctor. This is way too good for us mortal.
The Doctor. simply The Doctor. Captain D needs to be known to the mainstream
The Doctor. simply The Doctor. ikr except im gonna hate having to wait a month for the next video

This is a fantastic idea. Too many people think VFX and CGI is just a cheap half ass measure instead of an art form itself, really hope this series gives people more of an appreciation for it, even if this particular video goes over mostly practical effects itself.
A two parter of Captain Disillusion, about one of my favorite movie franchises? Dang Captain, you really know how to soften the blow of the summer ending.

Holy crap! I had no idea Robert Zemeckis had such an extensive filmography. Thank you Caption D

Blasphemy!
It’s not fake, it just happened in an alternate timeline 😉
Really interesting insight into Back to the Future, I didn't know a lot of that. Zemeckis really is one of the un-sung visionary directors of the last few decades. Although his venture into facial capture and motion capture for Polar express - A Christmas Carol was a little misguided. Unfortunately they never really managed to break the uncanny valley, while other films using better techniques proved this could be done even before the polar express was released.

I really love this new in-depth look at movie visual effect work. Long live the D.

Those of us who are old enough remember a show on Discovery Channel in the 90s called "Movie Magic."
Like the Capt said, the late 80s/early 90s was a transformative, innovative time for special effects, and that cable show was a behind-the-scenes look at how a lot of visual effects were accomplished.
... Looks like at least some the episodes are here on RUclips!
"I used to be a kid. Now, I'm a crazy guy."
Yup. I can relate.
Making this kind of video is a great use of the established character and style. It was nice to see how well it worked and I hope it pushes you towards the ammount of subscribers and viewers that this channel has always deserved. Every video is a treat. Thank you.
God, I love hearing about old visual effects. The sheer amount of work and creativity this stuff required to get right is nothing short of incredible.
Excellent as ever. I always like your videos before they even load because if it wasn't excellent I know you wouldn't bother uploading it!
good for you, no one else gives a fuck though
Default Hero - Well, at this moment 9 actual fucks have been given. Mine being one of them.
Ironically, I think this works against what Captain D would want. Love with your heart, use your head for everything else. Do not let your heart guide you into marking this as a good video before you've watched it. Retain the mind of a skeptic - watch, decide whether you like it or not based on its own merits, and like or not based upon that. I believe that a valid, non-toxic criticism means more to Captain D than a thousand unmerited likes ever could.

Really glad to see you take a turn at a "review" type show aimed at VFX. Looking forward to seeing more content like this. There are so many great channels for review of the actual story of a film, and some channels have a great discussion of editing (RIP EveryFrameAPainting) but I can't think of many VFX breakdown shows that cover the topic in such an imformative, passionate and straightforward manner.

Thank you Captain, for an entertaining and educational tour through the technology used in the classics we all love.

Yes! I know I won't be using VFX anytime soon, but this is exactly why i want to learn everything about them!
Honestly LOVE this addition Captain. I was just thinking from your last video how it was so much story and not much explination of the "mechanics" of VFX. I think this format is so cool and satisfying, exactly the direction I didnt even know I could hope for. Good work :)
Hi CD, I just wanted to let you know that about two days ago I began to have a migraine and so locked myself up in my favorite dark room. I my grief, I found your channel on the internet and - well... over the past two days I have managed to watch every video you've ever produced on this channel. I'm so glad you're diving into the creation of this movie CD! This was literally a formative movie for me. If not for this film, I might not have the interest I currently do in science, technology and sci-fi.
I mean, I still might've wound up loving science. But no other film made me want to be a *mad* scientist like Back to the Future did! It made me want to figure out how to travel through time so I could go to the future, have adventures, wind up going *back* in time to fix the mistakes made in those adventures, and generally muck about with space-time.
(No seriously. I wanted to be a mad scientist when I was a kid, just like my hero Doc Brown.)
this is my favorite so far. I have always enjoyed you're videos now this lends a whole new understanding to how and why visual effects are done. please continue this series it's nice to semi understand how some visual effects are done. Thank You!
Just found your videos about a week ago and have binge watched all of them. I can't get enough. In addition to the effects, the writing and character development is phenomenal. Also, I'm a BTTF fan!
Blade Runner and The Thing still blow me away with it's practical effects.

As always, I love it. Your content is the highest quality of any I've ever seen, rivaled only by a few other channels on RUclips. Here's to 500,000!
This is one of the best videos I have seen on RUclips in a long time. I have never "looked forward" to a RUclips video release before this.
1978... not 76... 1978 was the year Dykstra and team won the oscar for the Dynaflex that was created in 76 for Star Wars (released in 77) and then the oscar for that work in 78.
Rob Stewart I was looking for this comment so I didn't have to repeat it!
Yup.
This makes me miss the old style visual effects before CGI. Don't get me wrong CGI is a great tool but I also like miniatures and stop motion and stuff like that, they have their own charm.
jhhwild I agree, you can still spot those visual effects in some new movies/tv shows though. They aren’t obsolete :)
Watch the first evil dead If you enjoy stuff like that
Considering the timeline, I don't understand why some people can't themselves consider that the Apollo Moon missions were faked...ruclips.net/video/oBSpuZDKaKI/видео.html
I'm not suggesting techniques would have been the same, but rather just pointing out ingenuity from decades earlier.
@cmichaelson1 Nothing's been debunked except every single piece of so-called "evidence" that you think proves men have been to the Moon.
Leaving Russia aside for a moment, Japan, China and India have all sent probes to the Moon and none of them have produced any convincing evidence of NASA's alleged Moon landing sites on the Moon.
NASA's 2009 LRO images, despite having better camera technology even all those years ago, are blurry, pixelated, therefore easy to fake, don't qualify as third party evidence, and depict the shadows of flags that would have disintegrated many years prior in the harsh lunar environment.
Back to your "Russia" claim - You are not a spokesperson for Russia. Russian state television has broadcast many programs over the years that suggest the Apollo Moon missions were faked.
Why hasn't Russia used one of their Soyuz spacecraft to send a man at least looping, and perhaps orbiting, around the Moon by now, to at least have that "2nd nation to do it" status and distinction, as they were allegedly just on the brink of doing back in the 1960's with their Soviet Zond program that sent living specimens of animals and plants there and back?
Think about it. NASA used to test the survivability of space flight, when even just going below what is considered low Earth orbit, with chimpanzees. Then, the Soviets sent living specimens to the Moon, but decides to not send people there, and the Americans do absolutely zero practical, biological testing, but decide to go ahead a use their Apollo 8 crew as the "guinea pigs," or "lab rats"?
I dont
