  • In this video we provide first impressions of the Columbia Drainmaker III Trail Shoes. We cover the primary features of the shoes, explore the shoes' ability to drain water and see the shoes on foot.
I'll be using these shoes on the trail in Hawaii and will post a final impressions video showing them in the wild. Look for that updated later.

Think these might be perfect for my kayak expeditions! I would normally wear my chacos but planning on doing some 4-5 day kayak camping trips that will require more protection and support! Nice review brotha!

I didn't kayak in them, but wore them hiking and on slippery ocean rock reefs in Hawaii. They were great. I continue to wear them at home doing work around the yard and they've held up really well.

What about for rivers and float trips? Will the mesh hold up with walking in the river and running ino debris?

    I'm new to hiking.
For this kind of shoe, is better without socks?
Do I need a thumb width space on the toe box?

May we know how long does it take to completely dry out?

That all depends on conditions (temp, humidity, etc.), but in general about 20 minutes or so. The ability to completely drain away excess water is the real ingenuity of these shoes so that they CAN dry out faster than a normal sneaker or hiking shoe.

Yeah...good idea. These things kill it on the trail, by the way. I'm trying to gather some quick shots of the shoes on the trail and in the water during my recent trip to Kauai. If I have enough footage, I might put a final impressions video up. So glad I got these for that trip.

I was about to post a question about how they've been since the initial review, but I'm guessing two thumbs up are in order? They look like they'll be great in the water, crossing streams and certainly great for boat/kayak/canoe activity, but how do they hold up for longer hiking (in between the water activities)?
