Frankly speaking...... I'm not satisfied with Korean Cats production. I was shocked watching Daesung's rumtumtuger..(It was very very unsatisfying performance especially for me loving John Partridge's version Rumtumtuger. and even the melody of Daesung's number was very different with original melody) I like Daesung but.. Daesung's version was not perfect
I agree, John Partridge has more sexappeal, and as a cat they must have it. I mean, in mexico a girl that disappears a night to sleep with mean is called a "gata" (cat). so yea, cats=sexappeal. lol
He's...he's so stiff? Like he has the pipes and the diva "look at me" attitude but he's so stiff and sharp with his moves that it doesn't give the Tugger feel.
Agreed but he still very good. I liked the guy who was playing him during the fourth national tour. He wasn't stiff with his movements and really played the role well.
I'm no theater kid or dancer but I notice stiffness comes from when people are too focused on doing the right move at the right time to get to the next step vs knowing and flowing with it. But that's just me.
I am so happy you guys are seeing it. In normal productions they cast dancers who are trained in ballet, contemporary, jazz and tap. Todrick has "no flow" in his movement or walk. I can believe he has been trained in Hiphop but definitely not in contemporary or ballet.
@@LadyBern yeah. According to some friends, i tend to not smile when I dance, because I’m concentrating on getting the next move. So I completely get it
he sings it like a pop singer; riffs left right and centre. and shockingly enough he performs like he's holding back- all those hip swings and such; this song only works if you go OTT with it and he's not giving it enough
I think ive figured out why I don’t like Todrick as a performer in general. He’s a selfish performer. It’s always “what extra riff or crazy thing can I do to stand out” not “how can I connect with a cast member here or tell the story better”
I think Todrick’s issue in this role is that he’s overly focused on getting the choreography right instead of letting go a little bit and having fun with the character. I did acting on and off for about 10 years and I used to do the exact same things Toderick does here.
Hi there; have always heard of the musical, but just recently started getting into it - and so far I do LOVE Partridge’s liquid-like performance! So smooth!!!!
Rebelle Fleur That's what I was thinking. He looks like he's too 'dancery' he seems more concerned about getting the choregraphy spot on and rushing through it all than he does embodying that raw sex appeal
Martin Ng Well if he can't pretend to be straight he shouldn't be acting in a muscial. Actors are required to do things that they normally wouldn't do constantly. It's their job. This has has NOTHING to do with his sexuality it's acting. Having sex appeal is a natural thing- it's something a person naturally exudes.
He has done better...this..was not one of his strong suits. He doesnt look like he is getting into the hips nor the hand motions. Not one of his best performances
He’s talented as a singer and at the choreography, but it lacks charisma. Not my favorite rendition, but it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be...
I was fortunate to see this at the La Mirada theatre and was blown away by Todricks’s performance! My only regret was only seeing this version of Cats one time!
I like the idea of Tugger as a Michael Jackson (as opposed to sort of an Elvis) but there’s just no connection between him and the dancers. I don’t get that he’s hooking up with all of them like I should. It’s just dance steps. They’re well done. But it’s just “and now I go here and do this and then we do that”. It lacks feeling
To be fair, I agree some of the sexual energy is gone, but this is kind of where modern productions of Cats are going now due to people whining that the show is too sexy, which might not have entirely been Todrick's fault. That said, I never got the idea even in the earlier productions that Tugger was actually hooking up with anyone. If anything, he acted like the biggest tease, self aware of his own charm and appeal, but only to deny those interested for his own amusement, and only REALLY being interested in the others that show absolutely no interest. He always wants what he can't have, more interested in the chase than the reward. (The entire poem and song is literally about how fickle and contrary he is.) The only Cat he ever shows consistent interest in is Mistoffelees, which makes sense, cause he's the one Cat he can't figure out. (Magic and all.)
This is why telling the story comes before singing and dancing perfectly. He's not telling the story, just making sure he has good technique and adds riffs. John partridge was great at singing and danced well enough, and there were times when his dancing wasn't absolutely perfect but he was selling it with his facial expressions and the story he was telling in his relation to the other characters that made you interested about their world and the relationships between the characters
I love Todrick as Tugger! He had the perfect swagger and devil may care attitude! Love ya! I and if you couldn't tell from my clear love of CATS so, I know what I'm talking about! He is awesome!
Jemima TheKitten No he isn't. He's not dancing, he has zero sex appeal and no chemistry with the other cats. He looks highly uncomfortable singing and dancing. Also, I'm a huge fan of Cats as well but that doesn't automatically make me or you know what we're talking about. It's an opinion not fact. The fact is though John Partridge is the best.
Jemima TheKitten I love him as Tugger. So much chemistry with Bombalurina and his dancing and singing is great. I'm guessing Jemima is your favourite cat? She is a beautiful singer in the movie.
Although there are some parts of this performance that should be fixed, the main thing I like about this is the way todrik brings out the sasiness of the rum tum tugger's character (also sorry if I spelt the names wrong)
Don't get me wrong I think he's talented but from this, it seems like they all can only follow choreo. with little to no personality or addition to the character
I love this and love the performance it's still better than what Jason Derulo did in the 2019 movie he may not have all the sex appeal but this is definitely very good he can sing and dance and I appreciate it
He actually is very good and seems to draw a lot of inspiration from the way John Partridge did his take on Tugger, but John did it with a bit more attitude and enthusiasm imo
I don't know guys, I say it can go either way. There are a few moments where he really gets it and feels into the moment and a few awkward and stiff moments. Benefit of the doubt maybe it was early into the run and he was still getting to know the character? idk. His vocal performance is definitely standout.
Then you probably shouldn't watch the Revival Tour. (Todrick isn't in that one.) The cats literally bring out 3 broken pieces of a giant mirror and put them together for Rum Tum Tugger to preen and gaze at himself during the song. :P
@@indigothecat I think it's more the style behind it. The character is a charmer, yes handsome, maybe a little narcissistic but also playful but he still has respect for certain cats. The other cats in his song are meant to help him show it. In the Revival Tour version, yes, the character looks at himself in the mirror but the choreography is not the same. There are more interactions with the characters, there are glances that launch, interaction games like in the version of 1998 and other following. Like the two big interactions with Misto. While here, I do not find the same feeling, Todrick does almost no interaction, glances at others. I have the impression that he is like all alone to develop his own character, showing how beautiful he is but yet absolutely not helping himself from the other cats and stage actors when they are there precisely to show how the character is.
dvddmc yes but he needs to move the hips more. Remember this character is supposed to be the sexy one that does whatever he wants and puts the girls into heat. In this performance it was more like a diva.
I, as a director of many shows, think he was terrible. He has no sex appeal nor does he look comfortable. He doesn't put much intk his performance and it seems like he isn't trying hard. To be RTT you have to have movement down. Have a certain flow to be that character. RTT is a free, curious cat who goes by his means and has a thing with the ladies and toddy doesn't have that at all.
Little Red yes but this drives me crazy. Is he himself curious or do they mean curious as in they don’t fully get him because he does whatever he wants. And they just think he’s hot
Where is the flow!?! Y is it so fast!!??? If it was a bit slow and flowed. Then it would be perfection since the guy is good at singing and dances great to but jeez slow the music
This is awkward. Seems he doesn't really get into the character mindset that Rum Tum Tugger understands and uses his sex appeal and throws it around. This guy looks really uncomfortable and won't sway hips, etc. He's super stiff through the whole number.
I agree with 99% of the comments. He's fantastic but lacks sex appeal - which is a cornerstone of RTT's character.
Just like the Bombalurina in this production. There's an upload of Macavity and she just... Seems a little bland.
He is good enough at this role too, but I think the best Rum tum tugger is John Partridge. He is perfect....
what about Daesung?
Frankly speaking...... I'm not satisfied with Korean Cats production. Tyler Hanes is excellent in the role, too.
강주영 yeah he just doesn’t swing his hips enough for this character
I agree, John Partridge has more sexappeal, and as a cat they must have it. I mean, in mexico a girl that disappears a night to sleep with mean is called a "gata" (cat). so yea, cats=sexappeal. lol
He's...he's so stiff?

Right! I noticed that when he was in Kinky Boots too, so stiff. Idk why, isn't he supposed to be a dancer? It's weird.
I'm no theater kid or dancer but I notice stiffness comes from when people are too focused on doing the right move at the right time to get to the next step vs knowing and flowing with it. But that's just me.

Zach T same!!! Even when hes not performing and just doing youtube videos. He gives me an off vibe and that’s probably why
Brianna i actually know him as a person and Todrick is absolutely the sweetest!
Jonathan Loh oooh okay i can see your point of view
I read the comments of this replies and sorry but I still don't get it
@@gabriellaflores608 It's really sweet to not pay the people who work for you. Really sweet...
I think Todrick’s issue in this role is that he’s overly focused on getting the choreography right instead of letting go a little bit and having fun with the character. I did acting on and off for about 10 years and I used to do the exact same things Toderick does here.
Well he obviously dances fantastic and sings just as well... but I don't see the flow that John Partridge had on this same act
Hi there; have always heard of the musical, but just recently started getting into it - and so far I do LOVE Partridge’s liquid-like performance! So smooth!!!!
Todrick does seem very disjointed and uncomfortable.
Love John Was really good at this role
Why is the tempo so fast??
Jess Kohs I was wondering that too
Copyright
It’s like that for the stage versions.
That's the best tempo for him to be able to sing the song.
He could have played Rum Tum Tigger in the 2019 movie and I would have been with it
Todrick is quite good but suprisingly has zero sex appeal. No one will ever compare to the original RTT anyhow!!
Thats exactly what i was thinking
Rebelle Fleur That's what I was thinking. He looks like he's too 'dancery' he seems more concerned about getting the choregraphy spot on and rushing through it all than he does embodying that raw sex appeal

Martin Ng Lot's of straight people play gay roles and vice versa. Emma is right, if he can't act he should definitely NOT be on stage!!
He has done better...this..was not one of his strong suits. He doesnt look like he is getting into the hips nor the hand motions. Not one of his best performances
At least it isn't the awful rap version
Agree I hate the rap version it ruined cats the musical.
That’s fair. Even the worse Rum Tum Tugger is better than that shit
I was gonna say that
He’s talented as a singer and at the choreography, but it lacks charisma. Not my favorite rendition, but it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be...
I was fortunate to see this at the La Mirada theatre and was blown away by Todricks’s performance! My only regret was only seeing this version of Cats one time!
I absolutely LOVED todricks version of RTT!!!

Zach T i always saw him as like 80s classic rock type
Well Rum Tum Tugger's movements and characteristics are based on Mick Jagger if I remember right, so yeah... He forgot that rock soul Tugger has
To be fair, I agree some of the sexual energy is gone, but this is kind of where modern productions of Cats are going now due to people whining that the show is too sexy, which might not have entirely been Todrick's fault. the 1998 version will always be my favorite but honestly this is the first other one i've seen that i actually like

So where is Todrick's rendition of "Mr. Mistofelees"?
To think a year ago they changed Tugger from his old form to Justin Bieber form. Thank God they changed it back.
NAVEMAN3
Do you mean they finally stopped the rapping
Yep.
NAVEMAN3
Oh thank god.
So glad they got rid of the rap! I unfortunately saw the rap and was so pissed they changed him! It made me cringe
I love Todrick as Tugger! He had the perfect swagger and devil may care attitude! Love ya! I and if you couldn't tell from my clear love of CATS so, I know what I'm talking about! He is awesome!
Jemima TheKitten

The fact is though John Partridge is the best.
The Prancing Pony Well, can't disagree with that. John Patridge is THE best Tugger ever!!!
Jemima TheKitten
I love him as Tugger. So much chemistry with Bombalurina and his dancing and singing is great. I'm guessing Jemima is your favourite cat? She is a beautiful singer in the movie.
The Prancing Pony I've barely met me and you know me so well. Yes Jemima is my favourite character!!
Jemima TheKitten
Well, you know, I just took a wild guess. 😂 Bombalurina, Munkustrap and Demeter are my favourites although I love Jemima too.
Although there are some parts of this performance that should be fixed, the main thing I like about this is the way todrik brings out the sasiness of the rum tum tugger's character (also sorry if I spelt the names wrong)

I love his voice!
Don't get me wrong I think he's talented but from this, it seems like they all can only follow choreo. with little to no personality or addition to the character
Is the song so fast because this version of the character is rushing away.... from the WOMEN.........
Toderick was good too he sort of embodied rum tum tugger but no one can top john he oozed charisma
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat MY TODDY HALL DID A CATS PREFORMANCE?! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH
Love ToddRick but he just doesn't have the guttural quality to give RTT the rock feel he needs
Oh my god. John partridge is the only one that can do this.
3:45 owww soo cute
holy crap, he is GRAND!
I am so happy now!!! thanks for the upload. I've been wanting to see Todrick in Cats for a long time
I've always thought the Tugger costume looks like pizza.
HE IS AMAZING
I love this and love the performance it's still better than what Jason Derulo did in the 2019 movie he may not have all the sex appeal but this is definitely very good he can sing and dance and I appreciate it

can you guys stop fucking hating on this dude. i really liked this performance and found his vocals and mannerisms captivating
WHO LOVES TODRICK HALL?!?!
He’s not performing in my opinion. It says all over his face “OH SHIT WHATS THE NEXT STEP, THIS IS FAST”
That thrust to the Jemima cat😍
I LOVE THE RUclipsR THAT HAS POST THIS VIDEO
I think he failed to capture how you know what makes rum tum tugger rum tum tugger
Just the random blackflip didnt help

how many have you worked on, which ones?

He's good to be a Rum Tum Tugger tbh, but he just needs to improve the movements.
Ok but he has an amazing good
This might be the best Tugger I've seen in the past 10 Years
Wow amazing
he’s too stiff imo :-( seems to be just playing his role rather than actually being character if that makes sense
omg, thank you so very f-ing much for uploading this video u got yourself a new subscriber ♥
no problem :)
Everyone: rum tum tugger
Todrick: RUM TUM TUGGA YASSSSS BAE
First time I seen an acro Tugger.
This is what my lsd trips are like
JP all the way for me. But this was a good version.
I’m shook
This is amazing
Holy Crap. OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!
3:50 the best part 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ugh the hate in the comments though 😥
does he straighten his arms once in this performance
It feels like he’s rushing it?? Like he’s gotta make sure he lands ever teeny tiny thing instead of relaxing and making it a great performance
Holy shit I want Gerard Way to play Rum Tum Tugger! Sass queeeeen!
ItsJustKage eww noo
I just got chills oh my god
rewatching this after seeing Todrick being a problematic diva on Celebrity Big Brother. Here to say he hasn’t changed since 2014
Why does it feel like this is going too fast?
He isn’t childish or animated enough.
What production was this?
la mirada 2014
Emo Tum Tugger
John Partridge has ruined all other Rum Tum Tuggers for us
Where is the flow!?! Y is it so fast!!??? If it was a bit slow and flowed. Then it would be perfection since the guy is good at singing and dances great to but jeez slow the music
oh no
He's so focused on going through the motions that he's forgetting to have fun
It’s definitely the lack of hip movement. Just doesn’t scream “cat” to me
He's like macavity!
You have a new subscriber!
oh ya sure u didnt record it loll! i was just about 2 ask which production this was, whoa koOol!
2:02 .....*no*
I love CATS THE MUSICAL I mean its my favorite musical! That's why I'm glad it's the longest running musical in musical history!
Mettaton EX actually Phantom of the Opera is the longest running one, but CATS is a phenomenal show and is a longer running one
Poto is cats closed and came back
Toddy... this AIN'T IT.
I think he's doing great! I prefer a cat not having sex appeal myself so uh
They def added more flips in falsettos but it’s not giving me sexy
1:14 Umm... I don't think that was an air hump...
3:27
Misto: “fuck he’s hot, ok just don’t look at him mistofelees, look away. Dammit.”
The singing is nice but the sex appeal isn’t really there
He has the voice but not the movement
I wonder what everyone who doesn't like this performance thinks of the movie 🤣🤣
where is the energy i can not find it he seems kind of bored???
How did Todrick Freaking Hall not make this character gay enough?
This is awkward. Seems he doesn't really get into the character mindset that Rum Tum Tugger understands and uses his sex appeal and throws it around. This guy looks really uncomfortable and won't sway hips, etc. He's super stiff through the whole number.
W h a t. You mean to tell me todrick hall could have been the rum tum tugger for the movie? I would have watches it no questions asked
