I'm a Special Education teacher in Colorado. I love teaching kids with specific learning disabilities (SLD), but the social/emotional/behavioral kids......they get really annoying really fast. Yes, they often are diagnosed (accurately) with disabilities. Once that happens though, there are laws in place that basically give them papal dispensation to be assholes. And of course they're violent. What's worse, they feel entitled to their violent behavior. After about two days with them, you can tell instantly whether it's a genuine manifestation of their disability or simply asshole time. I'm paid to deal with getting punched, kicked, scratched, spit on, cursed at, blocking a teenager from ripping out my trachea, having rocks thrown at me, threatened with a 10" screw driver on a field trip (I SWEAR TO F--KING GOD I'LL KILL YOU!!), close quarters combat inside a school van on another field trip with Mr. Screwdriver, (during which a colleague was concussed but I only got a large goose egg on my forehead.) a torn rotator cuff from combat with a different teenager, and of course my classroom has been destroyed. Regular ed teachers don't sign up for that horseshit, but they get the same treatment as I do on a fairly regular basis. On top of all that, there's the abysmal pay, a mountain of responsibility and a molehill of authority. No wonder there's a teacher shortage. Having said all that, I work with great people, my administrators are wonderful, I'm a 13 minute drive through gorgeous mountain scenery to get to work, and my current students are all lovely elementary SLD kids. Just for the record, any teacher who claims she/he loves all their students is either lying, has taught less than 15 minutes, or deserves canonization after they tip over. Lastly, when I was a regular ed teacher, my third year class (6th grade) voted me their most influential elementary teacher when they graduated from high school, and my colleagues voted me the staff member of the year for 2021-2022. The point being, I'm pretty good at what I do and not just an incompetent complainer. 😊🤕😊

Every time I see a comedy special that wastes a minute showing the comedian sucking up applause, it's a guarantee the comic isn't actually funny 😳
No wonder Gerry's humor is so rich... He's a Canuck!! Mr. D, you are an A+ comedian in my books! Thirty years ago, I was that a$$hole student that many a teacher dreaded to have in their class and I look back now and feel terrible for some of the crap I pulled back then. When you started talking about being a teacher, my inner bully was laughing it's ass off AT you, while the rest of me was laughing hilariously WITH you!

Mr D was my teacher for 1 year and I recall him being kind of moody and hard to get close to. I remember getting in trouble and I begged him not to send a note and he did not believe me when I said I would get in SO SO much trouble and he did not buy it, That next eve I got one of the most horrific beatings from my drunkard dad. he never asked why I was not back in class for the rest of the week. I was kept home because of the black eyes and split lips and swollen face and bruised arms and back. You can spin that into a joke if you like as least something good can come from it, I was JT Mr D.
