This Shabad (hymn), composed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Bhairao, is located on Ang (page) 1142 of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Meaning:
The True Guru is completely independent and self-sufficient. He is the embodiment of divine truth and the perfect guide. The True Guru is the provider of all and the creator of the entire existence. There is no deity or divine being equal to the Guru, and only those blessed with great fortune are able to serve and follow Him.
The True Guru takes care of all beings and has the power to give life or take it away. His glory is manifest everywhere, and He is the ultimate support for those who have none. The Guru’s presence is like a divine court, where justice prevails. Those who remain devoted to the Guru are free from fear and suffering. Guru Nanak proclaims that the study of scriptures and religious texts ultimately leads to the realization that there is no difference between the Supreme Lord and the Guru.
ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ। ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇਣ ਅਤੇ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਜਾਗਰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਨਿਰਬਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੈ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਾਂਵੇਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ-ਤਕਲੀਫ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ। ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ।
