The early 2000s Sox-Yankees rivalry.. May never see anything that awesome again in baseball.
completely agree. I'm a marlins fan, so have no bias towards either side, but the rivalry up until I'll say 2008/9 was some of the most intense baseball I have ever witnessed.
idk man, that rangers-jays rivalry is getting pretty testy..
First they need to actually win world series for it be anything of note
You got to face us and our cold offense because of this series. I'm a NYY fan, but I don't think that you beat Boston in 2003.
oh yeah?
I miss the days of this epic rivalry. All the faces of each team are so iconic. That era was one of the best in sports history.
its a once in a century type of rivalry imo
@@EbluestarEI enjoyed the Pete Carroll Seahawks vs. Jim Harbaugh 49ers rivalry in the early 2010s
1:24,
The day Don Zimmer realized that he was 72.
Don Zimmer has always been like that
Fr
🤣
🤣
The day Pedro realized he could actually win a fight
Pedro lucked out, Zimmer was about to hit him with a spinning leg kick! He was notorious for those :)
Lol
Anaheims Willy G lol thats a cheapshot then. Zimmer should've stayed away and kept his mouth shut then run over to embarass himself. That was just not a good look in his part yet people bash on pedro because they deem he attacked an old man. Hello you stupid yankee fans zimmer went after pedro looking for a confrontation pedro has to defend himself and another thing when arod got plunked you saw tanyon sturtze from the yankees try to choke one of the redsox out from behind when a huge pile came on rhe field. I know a lot of people dont like big papi but he was right to fuck tanyon sturtze up. When someone goes after a teammate trying to choke someone out you fuckn throw a right and make him pay so I'm happy for ortiz he did that
Anaheims Willy G oh please! Lucked out? Ha. Pedro would've kicked his butt. He lucky he only got thrown down
It's a well known fact the Zimmer is a black belt in Kung Fu
Zimmer was going to beat him Bob Barker style.
As a Yankee fan, the older I get the more I realize what Pedro did wasn’t even that bad. I mean, what else was he suppose to do? Don should of never ran after him in the first place.
AlexanderMorales Don even said he was wrong for running after Pedro.
So true. Zimmer should have left the fight for younger men
Considering the situation, that’s probably the most gentle way Pedro could be reasonably expected to handle that.
Same, I hated Pedro after that, but years later come to realize he did nothing wrong.
Totally agree. I always thought Zimmer should not have charged him and what Martinez was more like self defense.
I'm a die hard Yankee fan from nyc but I mean Pedro couldn't really have handled it any better .. He lightly guided Zimmer to the ground with a defensive move.. Way better than throwing a haymaker to the man
Lmao lightly guided
93joeanthony I wouldn't say guided but agree that he could have done a lot worse
Yeah that is true. I mean it is not like he could of let a 73 year old man hit him. Oh wait.....
Bruh that image in my head now. Pedro just landing a FAT right hook on zimmer😂
He actually didn’t even have to do that. Just move out of the way, he’s no threat so there’s no reason to throw him to the ground
This might be the worst bit of announcing I have ever heard.
No surprise when its Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.
Joe Buck has no emotion at all. Even on some of the greatest plays ever he acts like nothing even happened.
It's Joe Buck what else would you expect.
The announcing is fine, what are you talking bout? Its like people want their own personal script to be spoken by the announcers. Oh, but when Vin Scully goes quiet for minutes at a time to allow the game to speak for itself they praise him...talk abut being biased.
Beast.Cogan best
What is 72 year-old man doing running at a hot-headed professional athlete? What did he think was going to happen when he ran at Pedro and took a swing at him? He's lucky he didn't get punched in the face.
But he didn't pick the fight. Pedro pointed at his head and then pointed at Derek Jeter. That sounds like picking a fight to me.
@@mothafuckinanarchist5392 still you don't rush at a man like that. Pedro actually used the old mans own momentum to bring him down so Pedro didnt punch him or shoved him.
I guess Pedro is suppose to just stand there an not defend himself...
Feel not fell.
Those guys 72-years old mustn't fight someone besides, pedro martinez didn't need to beat him whatever he just did was: he dodged him.. and that's why he fell to the grass ajajaja
I'm not a fan of either team but I think it's ridiculous that they kept saying "oh this is awful, he's a 72 year old man". I'm sorry I don't care what age you are, if you charge at someone, which is what he did, he didn't just get in his face and yell, if you do that then don't get surprised if you end up on the ground. The way I saw it, he charged him and Martinez put him onto the ground and left it. Just because he's 72 doesn't mean he's an angel. I've seen worse behavior from older men then younger sometimes so age doesn't mean anything.
He's fucking 72 he could of died That nigga Pedro has some nerve doing that in baseball
you are 100% right.
exactly, don't charge him if you don't want to start something
damn
+Joseph Sisti if a 5 year old hasn't learned that you shouldn't hit people yet, someone should show him the result of doing it
Joe Buck and Tim McCarver at their absolute worst.
I can't fucking stand listening to Joe Buck. He is a terribly biased play by play guy. Whether it be baseball or football, he definitely makes the viewing experience less enjoyable.
+DJ West Were they wrong? Pedro shouldn't have egged the Yankees on by pointing like that. And Clemens' pitch to Ramirez wasn't even close to hitting them. Ramirez had no reason to start a melee with him. And Pedro throwing Zimmer down like that was just awful. Everything they were saying was true.
Joe Buck has no experience with sports he should go get a job at Walmart and greet people
…I like him…
The pitch by Clemens to Manny wasn't even close, they were both right.
Remember this like it was yesterday. Absolute classic.
Zimmer charges like a bull, Pedro handles him like a matador.
Looooooooooool
🤣
OLÉY!
LMAO
Perfect Summary.
My favorite baseball fight ever.
as a yankee fan........when pedro threw zimmer i laughed......i laughed haaaard
DynastyRFTV that was one of the funniest moments in sports history 😂
I thought Pedro was being nice. Not a Pedro lover. But he had all the time in the world, set his feet and ko Zimmer with one punch.
Yeah I love how the announcers act like Pedro committed a crime against humanity when he did that.
I nearly hold my laugh when i saw Pedro knocked out zimmer
I can't laugh anymore especially Don Zimmer passed away a couple of years ago
It's hard to feel sympathy for a 72 year old man trying to pick a fight with someone a third his age.
+Richard Jones And a third his weight
thats a good one, pal
I mean if someone charged you, 72, or not, you're not just going to stand still and wait for them to punch you...
chuck norris is 77, he could still kick my ass lol
Richard Jones manny started this whole thing lol
Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. The two biggest Yankee lovers of all time. How can you not laugh at Pedro grabbing Zimmer by his giant pumpkin head and throwing him down?
When you remember that pedro was a third the age of zimmer
I enjoyed it very much so
@@xqt6339Zimmer shouldn’t have ran up on him then. Zimmer was being an idiot, and he even later acknowledged so.
Okay, I know you're telling the truth but Roger Clemens was not throwing at Manning Ramirez that time. Look at the count I mean yes it was high and then but it was nowhere near his head
🤣🤣🤣
Everyone's talking about Zimmer and Pedro and all I can think is "Wow, I forgot Karim Garcia existed"
LOL, I had the same thought too!
TheHughBliss Lmao poor Karim Garcia… I’ll always remember his name, but I don’t remember him for actually doing anything of significance, other than playing for the Yankees, I suppose.
Who's Karim Garcia? 😂😂😂
This guy Karim Garcia got in trouble in Spring Training when he was briefly a Met, for public urination at an Applebees or some similar establishment. LOL...
Karim Garcia's only significance is he was traded from Arizona to Detroit for a man named Luis Gonzalez.
This was by far the most amazingly hilarious brawl I've ever seen. And I got to watch it LIVE. :D
First time I’ve ever noticed the cop patting Zimmer on the back like “you’re ok there pops” after he was gently guided to the ground. Really adds to the viewing enjoyment IMO.
Pedro's fast ball intimidated any batter! On that mount, he brought many scarring moments to his opponents! In MLB, he
is part of the greatest. A living legend! Nobody knew what his next throw would be. He struckout thousands of batters and made them out of frustration cursed him out on their way to the dugout. A curve? A slider? A changeup or a fast ball? You guess...⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
LOL @ Tim McCarver "That is absolutely awful"
What is awful is Zimmer thinking he could try to attack a far younger athlete who you know is a hard ass. THAT'S awful.
one of my all time favorite baseball moments
Old man shouldn't have got involved. Pedro was nice by not just punching him out.
Respect your elders you punk bitch.
hahahahhahahahah
Bob Vance poor Bob. Calm down, Bob.
+Bob Vance I laughed my ass off when he tossed him to the ground. I would have decked his ass.
Well think of it in context. You're in the middle of a brawl between the two teams of the most intense sporting rivalry in history, and someone from the other team is coming at you threateningly. If it were me, I wouldn't be thinking "oh, I'm sure this old guy is just gonna yell at me." I'd be thinking "great, here it comes!"
Pedro martinez doesn’t back down from anyone , he is to this date the best ,toughest and most entertaining pitcher I’ve witnessed.
He's a soft guy. Nice try.
You’re the dumbest person on Earth
dave chappelle had a great bit on this, " he wasn't rushing to give him a hug, he just guided him to the floor anyhow"
I liked his later joke "I'm 30 and healthy; I don't even rush Puerto Ricans"
Ah man, I didn't know Dave Chappelle commented about this. Classic.
I remember watching that live and nearly laughed myself into a coma I was in tears. When Pedro slammed that old geezer to the ground I couldn't breathe lmao
Back in the early 2000's those were great days to watch baseball
Pedro giving absolutely no fucks at 0:16
Couldn't have said it better. Yankees got their asses kicked as usual.
he was such a killer
Nihilus Rose That's what he looks like after watching one of those animal rescue commercials.
the batter wanted to charge, but he sharted a bit and wasnt sure if there was outer evidence yet. watch his eyes, hes not sure...
DVJFan
Your butthurt sustains me.
Old people need to learn that there best days are gone.
The elderly should not try to engage in fisticuffs with a man in there prime. lol the announcers saying awful is a crock. Was Zimmer going to give him a hug?
He had flashbacks and thought it was the 1960's.
Old people, retire from fighting
except for that 67 year old vietnam vet epic beard man who beat the crap out of a younger guy on a bus.
Yes I saw that.
Well the guy was a vet and the young punk deserved that but in general
Old people look down on the youngerlings.
I'm sure I will too when I'm older
Marco P I'm not sure it's wise to compare a vet fighting what was clearly a young coward to a 67 year old couch taking on a 30 something professional athlete
My point is once you reach age 50 it's time to retire from the art of fisticuffs, you have officially made it let you younger generation fight it out now
Preach dude. Pedro was just defending himself. He could've done worse to him like struck him in the face, he just threw don down
I forgot how great this rivalry was when I was a kid. Some great baseball in the early 2000s
I laughed my aas of when I saw Zimmer get pumbled to the ground lmao 🤣
Pedro acted in self defense, its obvious Don Zimmer is just one of those entitled old people who think they can do whatever they want cuz they're old
Actually bra, Don Zimmer got hit it in the head in his playing days with a ball and has a metal plate, so he gets upset when pitchers throw at people's heads. (Ace Ventura Voice) BUT I'M SURE YOU ALREADY KNEW THAT!!!....
Yeah self defense sure, there was no other possible way an athlete could defuse the situation with a 72 year old man. Can you sense sarcasm?
Zimmer attacked him first. He's an adult, and he should know better. Pedro has no responsibility to treat him any differently from any other adult male who attacks him. Zimmer probably thought he could attack Pedro with impunity because Pedro is "not allowed" to forcefully dispel his assault. Well, he was wrong, and rightly so. Yankee fans love to play the victim, when they are usually the aggressor. Remember when you guys spit on Cliff Lee's wife. The only team who doesn't even utilize their farm system properly because their wealth gives them a clear advantage over the bottom 2/3 of the MLB. Not even the classiness of Derek Jeter can mitigate the classlessness of yankee fans and their organization. Probably the most steroid-infused team of the late 90s, when they dominated. Thank God Pedro came along to give the Yankees a long-deserved "FUCK YOU".
Zimmer admitted that Pedro did the right thing because he thought he could kick Pedro's ass soo you saying Zimmer thinks he can do w.e he wants is a pretty dumb comment.
1337Pwn4g3 im a yankees fan and i agree
Rest in peace, Don Zimmer. You made me smile.
Pedro should have gotten a 50k bonus for that and be remembered as an official hero of Boston
alex trebek he already is
Pedro and big Papi are to Boston what Jeter is to New York.
Zimmers thoughts: "Let me show you what we used to do to players who looked like you back in my day"
😂😂
"acted". Don't make it about race, man.
lmaooooooooooooooooo!
ebscoHOST 😂
LMAOOO i almost spit my strawberry coolata
LMAO I remember this, Pedro is the man.
Me and my brother cried laughing when we watched this live back in '03
Zimmer went after Martinez! Martinez had every right to defend himself, no matter what age Zimmer was.
In my opinion this Yankees vs Redsox rivalry got to be The BEST Rivalry in Sports History 😎😎😎👌👌👌👌
Absolutely!
Quite possibly the greatest moment in baseball history.
Pedro Martinez is a living legend. Can't believe this happened 10 years ago.
Almost 20 years ago now. Damn...
Almost 20 years now man
@@tofoo1 😭
20 years, wow
Pedro Martinez became my favorite MLB player that day.
Throwing down an old out of shape man? Get real.
@@donniedowner1686 well, Zimmer got what was coming to him, he came after Martinez, I don't care what age he was. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
What a bias Announce team when Zimmer got thrown to the group in self defense that announce team did everything they could to make Pedro look bad what a homer Announce team.
@ThatManWebby Pedro was the man. You're a punk. Way to change the subject you idiot
ThatManWebby 5 months later are you still mad about it?
To be fair, and I'm no fan of McCarver and Buck, but it's a bad optic to see an older man thrown to the ground by a younger man. In the moment, I could understand being disgusted by Pedro. But everyone in this chat has been able to watch this a bunch of times and digest it properly, so most would agree that Zimmer shouldn't have picked the fight. Regardless, classic baseball playoff moment.
Throwing someone to the ground before they touch you is not a self-defense move. Sounds like you know just as much about fighting as you do about baseball.. nothing.
@@jimduggan8962 What would you consider it?
I landed in Boston from Ireland at the end of ‘99. I truly did not realize the magic I was about to witness in Boston sports as a whole for the years that followed in early 2000’s esp -
This was a good time in the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry. I was a young teen back in these days and it was awesome watching this rivalry. so many big name players on both teams. Nowadays this rivalry is boring. Hopefully someday it with get back to being like this. Go Red Sox!!!
Lots of thoughts on this.
1) always hated pedro, but that pitch to Garcia is the reason why he's the best pitcher I have ever seen. Most fearless guy I've ever seen on a mound.
2) Pedro and the rest of the Sox looked very upset as soon as Zimmer hit the ground. Pedro regrets it today.
3) what the fuck does Manny think he's doing? Sure, Clemens is no Mr. Nice Guy, but that wasn't even close.
they hated each other and clemens was hated by all things Red Sox obviously. It just didn't take much to get upset. Another thing, Pedro try to apologize to Zim but Zim said don't its my fault. David Ortiz's reaction always gets me laughing. I can just hear him in my head "Oh my god what happened???"
If you run at Pedro Martinez expect for him to defend him
...self
Manny started it. Pedro was defending himself. Discussion over.
sarah marshall please rewatch the video before making dumb comments. Thank you.
Joosejpr Dear incompetent moron: Pedro started it by throwing at Garcia, Red Sox expected, and got retaliation, albeit just a brush off pitch Ramirez over-reacted to. Ortiz would have been plunked but the whole thing stated because Martinez is a jackass
if a man that big came at me i would throw him down as well its self defense
sarah marshall My mother wouldn't call me shit. Look, the dumb ass charged Pedro, Pedro defended himself. Next time don't start something you can't finish.
Dkm Dsk Step out of the way. Oh wait, you're one of those tough guys huh?
I can happily say this is my first sports memory as a kid
I never tire of seeing Zimmer thrown to the ground.
“Who did this to you?”
“(In growling voice) Pedro!”

Considering the storied career of Mr. Zimmer, unfortunately he'll be remember for this moment by most people. RIP
Not sure if I would classify it as a 'storied career'. Pretty bad playing career, followed by a 50% manager,

Pedro faceplanting Zimmer was the single greatest moment in baseball history...
I could watch the Zimmer part on loop; pure gold
As a New Yorker and Yankee i enjoyed this great rivalry i feel that people do get a little to wrapped up over it to the point where they start to act really stupid over a game but i always respected the way the Redsox played they always played with heart and always had a competitive spirit the 2004 comeback was amazing.
Sorry I’m 7 years late but this comment is such facts as a Red Sox fan I love the rivalry but still have respect for the Yankees they’re always a great team and have amazing history
Zimmer really led with his giant head there , aggressive move
The parody of this on Saturday Night Live was hilarious.😁
when asked what his IQ was, Manny Ramirez responded "20/20"
The 14 ALCS games played from 03-04 are the greatest baseball of all time, period. Nothing, even Yankees/Red Sox of later years, even comes close to the white hot intensity of those games. It felt like the world was at stake.
Non-sports fan: “oh my goodness! That’s awful! He threw an old man!”
Sports fans: “HA! Idiot. Ole Donnie really didn’t think that one through!” 🤣
I love sports.
When I feel any type of way, I’ll go back to this video and it cheers me up. Pedro is a bad mamajama!😂😂😂😂
I remember watching this damn 17 years ago wasn’t even a teenager. Loved 2000s baseball.
Zimmer deserved it. I remember him from his managerial years for the Cubs, and he was an extreme hot head.
“Who is Karim Garcia?”
- Pedro Martinez
Pedro is the man!
Pedro's a piece of SHIT
Matthew Krusinski Negative. Zimmer shouldn't have ran out there. Pedro did go towards Zimmer, zimmer walked towards him. Pedro could have done worst if he was a piece of crap like u say.

nope. pedro is a piece of shit. you don't defend yourself against old people like that. you walk away and avoid contact in the same way if a woman were to attack a man. You throw a woman down like that and your ass is going to jail.
Bob Saget Ladies and gentleman, Red Sox fans
+DaTruth683 true. But instead of throwing down a 72 year old man, Martinez could have been smart and backed out of Don Zimmers face.
I forgot about that. One of the funniest things I've ever seen 😂
I’ll never forget my dad absolutely dying at Zimmer being thrown to the ground 🤣
Props to Pedro Martinez, that old dude was going after him, throw him down.
Ah, Pedro! What a true legend. He is most definitely the man!

The way Zimmer goes rolling away on the ground after Pedro tossed him there by his HEAD 😂😂😂😂

Manny walking toward Clemens. Manny is lucky he didn’t get there, Rocket would have killed him.
He didn't really want any part of Clemens, thats why he didn't drop the bat lol
But honestly, what else is Pedro suppose to do at 1:11..!? Just stand there and let the guy swing at him...?
ahh the good ol' days...man, 16 years went by so fast.
Best years in baseball, I miss these days so much.
Especially when you were younger riding bikes and seeing this on SportsCenter like I was. Good times
One of the Biggest Fights Ever in ALCS History.
As a life-long Cubs fan, I'm saddened that this is what Zimmer is going to be remembered by. He was a great skipper here in Chicago, and while I think Martinez could've been a lot more deferential to an older man, it WAS kind of foolish to charge someone who clearly was in better shape.
Cut the bullshit you punk . tell me where you are .
Zimmer went at Pedro. Why should we feel bad?
Martinez is now in the Hall of Fame. Amazing the short memories people have
Whenever I need a laugh, this a go to.
Would have interesting had Pedro used a wooden chair to clobber Zimmer. At least Vince McMahon would have hired him on the spot.
Okay, I understand that Don Zimmer was a old guy and generally you're not supposed to drop or attack old people, but COME ON! Pedro Martinez was just defending himself! I don't care who's charging at me and I don't care how old they are, I'd have done the same thing.
fuckin' Don Zimmer got pooed on
I'm glad this video exists.
I think after Pedro incited some more headshots to the Yankees, Manny immediately believed Rodger was gonna go for his noggin.
Who came from chappelles
Mhmmm yupp
Nathan Ochoa Used his momentum against him.
Dave said don't fuck w/Puerto Ricans... ps chest kick
I always wished Manny would've rushed Roger who's one of the biggest jerks in baseball. In that moment, I thought the bully may have met his match.
Manny being Manny. That pitch was up but no where near his head. Seriously ask Piazza.
Glad this popped up on my suggested. I remember the next day at work everyone was talking about this and it was on the front page of the paper on my way to work. Before social media reported everything first
Hands down the craziest rivalry in sports. Attended a Friday night matchup at Fenway once. I've never seen so many fans brawl.
LOL I love how Clemens was like "alright lets go" and the redsox was like "quick, somebody hold be back PLEASE!!!"
This is so true lol, he would have beat Manny up and down the field lmao.
hahaha that old fart tried to join the fight and just gets slapped down lol
say what you will about steroids, and i do still love baseball today, but baseball was never better in the late 90s to mid 2000s when everyone was roided up and tempers flaired.
