Love reading the comments of how we all loved this song back in the day. All around the world we enjoyed it. Even in little old NZ where I come from. Was a great song to dance too. Awesome memories
Picture a dance floor lit only with strobes flashing to the beat and a hundred or so men dancing, shirts off swaying and shaking to the lyrics and instrumentals right to the last note.......
Can't believe it's 8 years ago I wrote the comment below ! (Or above !) Still love this today as much as I ever did, it has really stood the test of time, and sounds as fresh as it did all those years ago.
My stomach aches from the nostalgia of hearing this incredible song. I was in college at Texas A&M, and a friend I had a HUGE crush on (good looking cowboy) came home with me to visit. We went to the Bonham Exchange in San Antonio, Tx, where I heard this song for the first time, and loved it. What a magical time in my life!
I think I've read on Discogs: "Produced by Giorgio Moroder or Harold Faltermeyer" ! If this is true, you HAVE the Answer: MAGIC MUSIC came from these legendary Producers !! 😍😍😍👌👌👌
I love reading all the comments and shared memories! Those of us who lived through this time have some wonderful and beautiful memories of a very special time in our lives. Rich's Houston...Parade Houston...Numbers Houston...Old Plantation Houston...Great times indeed!
almost 30 years i've been searching for a song i thought was called "secrets in the dark" - although i'd only heard the song once or twice, i could still remember the hook line to this day - and then i saw this and thought, "i'll give this a wee listen" - and i KNEW from the first few seconds that it played that this was IT - i'd finally the found song that had haunted me for so many years. And 9 fantastic minutes too. thank you vilin8r
I have been in similar situations with tunes you hear, forget the name, mine was a mixed medley of Donna Summer tunes, not just any medley this was special,1st heard in 1990....found the mix in 2015! What a great feeling. R.I.P Queen of disco. Pleased you found your E.G Daily. It's a beautiful song, sang by a artist with an excellent voice x
I loved this song the first time I heard it at the Bonham Exchange, in San Antonio--all those years ago. Such a magical time in my life. I bought the 12" of this, and her song 'Say it, Say it'.
Haunting and achingly beautiful. Whenever I hear this song, it transports me to a wonderful place where time stands still. I can remember hearing this in the gay clubs 25-30 years ago and being mesmerized by this song. Listening now I can feel the "passion burning up from under my skin". If you were there at the time, you know exactly what I mean.
I remember it at the Prelude in New Hope in 1986 (?) - then in January ‘88 the Cartwheel reopened and instantly took the Prelude’s business away almost immediately. But this song did affect people strangely, almost like a drug -
If ever heaven was a place on earth, it would be "Love in the shadows" - of all the 80's NRG, this one really was a stand out record, and sounds just as brilliant today. Takes me right back there, as though it was only yesterday.
Yes. And I remember when dancing to this it was almost like we were all performing the song ourselves; its incredible yearning as if for something we would never get, that would always be beyond our reach.
Takes me back to dancing at Trax in PHX, late 80's. Always hit the dancefloor when this gem was played. My prime years. Those days are gone. Better left behind, but will always have this wonderful music.
Haunting indeed. To quote a movie I saw yesterday, "you know you're getting old when you say: I've never felt that young". I feel 20 again... Thanks for the memories :)
Love the "haunting" aspect of this song and remember the effect it had on people on the dancefloor - creating if only for a short time that magical world that was so different from the rest of our lives. And of all the music in the mid 80's this song seemed to do it best,
It always gave me chills as I frantically made my way to middle of the dance floor to absorb every second of it with strobe lights, disco balls, and fog!
You saw me standing alone in the dark Lost in the silence of my heart Crying for angels crying for light Crying for someone tonight I need secrets in the dark love in the shadows Passion burning up from under my skin Take me for a ride until the night time's over daylight steals the magic of the dark No time for wasting no time for truce No time for innocent lies Touch me like heroes straight from your eyes Lead me to worlds far beyond And I know it's you for freedom And I know you can fill the space in me I need secrets in the dark love in the shadows Passion burning up from under my skin Take me for a ride until the night time's over daylight steals the magic of the dark I'll give no reasons and no border lines Kill the fire that brakes the heart of love No more crying for angels crying for light Crying for someone tonight And I know it's you for freedom And I know you can fill the space in me I need secrets in the dark love in the shadows Passion burning up from under my skin Take me for a ride until the night time's over When daylight steals the magic of the dark
It took me a long time to find this album in vinyl and I used to go to used record store each week in the 80s and 90s. I finally went to a dance used record shop in San Francisco that had just opened up and stocked with many SF djs collections. I can easily find copies now on eBay, but I never saw it it any other used record store and no one seem to know the movie and it was a movie set in SF. I know the movie was not a hit, but I owned a copy when it was out of print and love this movie. It reminds me of the love and romance of the 80s which no longer nowadays.
This is a great mix, so glad I found it. And to just discover EG made it - and my favorite girl in Valley Girl is so awesome... I was a barback and 4am bartender at the Saint its last 2 years. And 4am was when all the chemistry kicked in and the club really got going. Oh Man...those beautiful sexy men oozing primal hormones - I could barely make their drinks they were so hot. But whenever I heard those first seconds of this song, I ran upstairs to the dance floor and found my tribe - or sometimes just alone - and would lose myself in this haunting sexual energy. I didn't realize how lucky I was to have had that gig and I'd do anything for one more night at the Saint.
I can never get enough of this song, my only wish is that we could get an extension of the breakdown to pure bass line in the final 30 seconds. That's just at the point when you don't want it to end
Totally. And the lyrics are so powerful "take me for a ride until the night time's over and the daylight steals the magic of the dark"...just awesome...

My comment about “haunting” still stands after 8 years but now I would add the elusive aspect of it - something we could not quite reach but yearned for and would keep yearning for. That period was the apogee of the dance age that now seems to have largely dissipated.

Interesting comment; I associate it with that time where we were living in a war zone and a state of ecstasy (don't mean the drug) at the same time. As if this song could distract us from what was happening to many of us or could have - even if it ultimately didn't.

Fantastic version. Very well done. Even though it is 9 minutes, I never got "bored" or thought "this should be shorter". GREAT MIX.
The longer the better!!
Leading into the chorus there is a synth crescendo that I call stepping into the mirror
You saw me standing alone in the dark
Lost in the silence of my heart
Crying for angels crying for light
Crying for someone tonight
I need secrets in the dark love in the shadows
Passion burning up from under my skin
Take me for a ride until the night time's over
daylight steals the magic of the dark
No time for wasting no time for truce
No time for innocent lies
Touch me like heroes straight from your eyes
Lead me to worlds far beyond
And I know it's you for freedom
And I know you can fill the space in me
I need secrets in the dark love in the shadows
Passion burning up from under my skin
Take me for a ride until the night time's over
daylight steals the magic of the dark
I'll give no reasons and no border lines
Kill the fire that brakes the heart of love
No more crying for angels crying for light
Crying for someone tonight
And I know it's you for freedom
And I know you can fill the space in me
I need secrets in the dark love in the shadows
Passion burning up from under my skin
Take me for a ride until the night time's over
When daylight steals the magic of the dark
Thanks Daniel !
