Your Marimba Spiritual is actually what introduced me to DCI. I watched a runthrough of it (minus brass) on the Vic Firth Marching channel. I believe it was the "learn the music" vids. Awesome stuff! Question: are you the center tenor?

Yeah, Pinstripes on 1, 2, and Spock for the high sounds and Ambassadors on 3 and 4 for warmth and tonal sounds. I'm usually not a fan of mixing heads but it worked out really well for BACQ
To mix that absolute juicy low tom power like scv’s quads but still having the tight clean and clear sound in the higher range. I actually love this combo. Best of both worlds.
A compass usually is pointed 330 degrees Northwest or 30 Degrees Northeast my assumption the heads were trying to mimic that cause the show theme is SOS.
Like a few people mentioned, it is indeed preference and also dictated by the writing style of the person writing the music. I have used both quints with Boston and sextets at RCC and few groups prior and both are equally as effective. 6 definitely has more variety if you know how to use both spocks but 5 can be just as good. At the end of the day, you gotta play clean.
The reason we did the hybrid mix match of the heads is because we wanted a fuller sound with more tone and resonance on the lower drums for all the marimba spiritual drum 4 16th note motifs and things of that sort. However we wanted to maintain the articulate sound and twang of the higher drums for all the fast shots and diddle passages written in the book and the pinstripes are perfect to keep that pretty sounding ringing tone

Probably wanted more of a drier cut from top 2 and spock, but still wanted that warmth from 3 and 4. You can kind of hear it in the video.

I only know the sticks they used for 2019, but I think they're the same. Colin McNutts for the sticks and Cookies for the mallets

my guess is to get the resonance of the 3 and 4 drums using coated heads, and get the brightness of the spock, 1, and 2 drums using clear heads
