It's amazing how the landscape has changed so much. I take mini buses into garage off Battinson road quite often, not realising it was Pellon station and tracks everywhere before. Great video, maybe in years to come in future all these railways will open up again.
Lovely video. Surprising how many railway lines there were around Halifax. It looked like a struggle making that video. Well done. The metal item on the bridge roof was a smoke deflector. It must have been a trainspotter's dream living there.
Thank you. Yes Halifax had 6 railway stations I believe and worth looking at in more depth on the other lines. And the amount of old tunnels in the is crazy!
Great video Pete, fascinating content and plenty to see. That’s an impressive tunnel, loving the blue brick embankment. Built to last! That’s some serious infill at the other end as well. I bet most people living around that area have no idea to what was once there. The deflector plate on the bridge at the end of the video used to redirect the smoke and steam upwards and outwards and away from the locomotive's cab thus improving the line of sight for the locomotive crew. Thank you for sharing 😊👍
The steel deflector plates situated beneath steel over bridges and foot bridges at stations are purely to prevent sulphur from the exhaust soot corroding the steel, cheaper to replace deflectors etc. The series has been fantastic, good work ! Sad to see that all the meticulously constructed stone work just destroyed. Practically all the G N R infrastructure in West Yorkshire was eradicated by Beeching considering that they fought so hard in 1850s to reach Leeds (Central).
Thank you, I really enjoyed making this one. I was able to get to some places not normally accessed. Its hard to believe there ever was a railways station at wellington place! At least the carriage lift and viaduct have come back in to use!
Haha. If you had been in, I suspect you may have wondered what that weirdo with a camera was doing!! If you see the tunnel open, let me know I’ll go in it the same day and film it!!
@@newmotorcycleguy haha a lot of people film at them gates. they go in the vent about once a year to check the condition but they never turn up as they have access to it from the road as they recently put a gate up with a key.
Great video - the manhole cover that you are looking for is on the other side of the concrete fence, next to a play area just off Beaumont Chase. You can see it on Google maps, behind the garage, almost central on the grassed area.
@@newmotorcycleguy I would imagine it's very well secured (rightly so), although I also wouldn't mind having a gander! Thanks for the video, it's been really helpful when it comes to a potential house purchase haha! (I've been trying to map out the tunnel entrance/cuttings). Also, just interesting to see local railway history as I also work on the railway.
@@CurtisLodge1991ahh cool. And yea you don’t want to buying houses on old cuttings and tunnels!! Stay well clear of the old mine areas too!! 😂. Well I think I’ll take a lol at that manhole cover when I go passed it Next. I know people steal them for scrap!
What a great series this has been, thankyou for all your effort in bringing it to us....
Very welcome. The next series is ready to go and starts next week!
Great Series Pete. Fascinating insight.
Thanks. I really enjoyed making this series. I’ve just finished filming and editing the farnley branch line, inc the light railway attached to it 👍🏻

Yea, plus all the mills! it would have been noisy and lots of soot!

Good to actually see where the other portal to Wheatley tunnel was !
Yea. Sadly I couldn’t find the man hole cover but I’d like too!! 😊

Thank for the comment. I want to get inside this tunnel! and yes the cutting was very deep. A a shame i couldn't find the access manhole!
love the effort you put into these vids, please keep em coming
Thank you. I found this line very interesting to make. A shame the bridges will never see another train.

Top film great pete
Thank you.
Great series Pete
Thanks. It was a great series to make. I really enjoyed it!
When I was a kid I'm sure this bridge at 8min ran over an access road to a bed manufacturer.
Interesting, that would be good to know.
Dorlux, I believe?
@@CurtisLodge1991 yes! That's it.
@@CurtisLodge1991thank you.
@@raresnspares8661 I'm not 100% sure on the location myself, but I've definitely read it somewhere!
The footbridge over the line was known as the wooden bridge. I remember the line very well
Thank you for the comment. That’s very interesting. Local knowledge is always best

As I said the masonry was high quality,a shame to abandon it.
It’s an absolute waste of local history and a proudness the area should embrace.
