Performance alongside Truong's work 'Buoyancy'.
'Buoyancy' is an installation comprised of a red inflatable fishpond staked by a tall crucifix which is engulfed in an array of dismembered soft toy limbs. Intermittently a water feature is activated producing streams from the crucifix into a pool of toy fish Koi.
Truc Truong explores portraiture, assemblage, and installation to express her ongoing exploration of social constructs and the nuances of everyday life. Her creative process is rooted in play and animism, allowing her to whimsically manipulate objects in imagined installations.
In 'Buoyancy' (2023), themes of grief, love, and faith are explored, offering a reflection on the intricate interplay of traditions within the context of colonialism and the connections that bind us. At its core, Buoyancy symbolically features the Koi fish and crucifix, embodying ideas of migration, redemption, and resilience. Truong confronts and contemplates how the fundamental tenets of different faiths, notably peace and love, have been entwined with violence and authority.
