Ever since KT/Gust started releasing these games on switch/Pc I’ve been having a blast with the series. As a fan of slice of life/light hearted esque games and anime. The series has pretty much been like my top 5 favorite rpg franchise, and the OST for these atelier games are always great. Put in 100hrs in atelier Lydie & suelle, completed at least one of the atelier arland games on switch, and played through the spin off Nelke which was an odd managing/simulation game. Anyways will definitely be getting atelier ryza, probably digitally just to get the *coughs* outfits. And yeah ryza is definitely looking like the best since it’s selling so well in japan and digital sales in the West seem to have improved tremendously because the steam version is cheap. Hopefully gust can then begin on their other IP’s like nights of azure or the blue reflection IP. Blue reflection’s OST btw is god tier imo, best soundtrack I’ve ever heard in a jrpg, that’s saying a lot. Lol.
Well it seems like Atelier is where the money is for them, I don't seem them putting them on hold any time soon for other games. Which is a pity. Variety never hurt
SwitchWatch shame. Tho one good thing I’m hoping for with KT. Not too long ago the series creator for fatal frame stated they’d like to make a new game for switch. KT as whole even with so strange practices they’ve made, glad to see this company still support the switch since 2017, if only they had the same amount of interest during the wiiu.
Very nice and detailed review. I will probably wait for a sale on the physical copy before buying as $60 is a bit much. Plus I'll be buying Romancing Saga 3 first as that's a game I've always wanted to play. This and the fact that I just bought 8 games this past week, 5 eshop sales ($14) and 3 Limited Run Games games shipped out back to back days so I'll be busy.
@@DeltathRiylaan Because I just bought 9 games in one week, forgot about Ninja Saviors from Amazon. Although 5 of them was only $14 but they retail for close to $160 as they were all 75 - 99% off. Those Limited Run Games aren't exactly cheap but since I like physical copies, I tend to buy them.
@@saysoun752 I bought Luigi's Mansion 3, Atelier Ryza, Digimon Story Collection and A Hat in Time in the last week so I'm a little tapped for now. I've never bought a Limited Run game. I prefer digital for both convenience and I game share with my fiancee. That way we can both play the same game at the same time if we want, or if we're apart we can both still access it whenever.
I love Y's and a few other JRPG'S so thats why I'm keen try whatever. This looks cool. I'll get it now n give it a go! Or thinking might checkout the earlier ones first.
Just got this game on switch and the loading screens are looooong. I'm noticing that on this review it's not as bad. Anyone else having this issue? And is there any way to fix it?
@@SwitchWatch I get what you are saying I think it could of been a lenient one if they wanted but or use it only in certain situations but I get it I think it's ok to drop it but I kinda dont want it fully gone well this one it makes sense to remove it considering the summer memory things but man rorona that one I couldnt even get past really anything because of it but I do like multiple endings which this one will seem 2 drop that's fun in games cause ya get to see what could of happened oh well what happens happens I can't wait to play
Thanks for a heads up and reviewing it.. I am definitely going to buy this tomorrow here and this would be my first Atelier Game 😁 IDK but Stout got my attention and hook me buying it so yeah Hahaha
I'm a complete newbie to the Atelier series, was going to get this but was... coersed... into getting the Dusk DX trilogy instead by a friend who says they're her favourites. Surprised how good the frame rate looks for Ryza considering how Ayesha chugs often in handheld mode, perhaps it's just the older game engine idk.
Do you know if this game has a physical release? I've been looking to try out the Aetelier series, and this seems like a decent starting point, especially with the visuals and performance on the switch compared to the other entries
I have always wanted to jump into an Atelier game. This might be a good one to start with. However I am also going to wait until I can get it much cheaper.
I was wondering if I should get Atelier Ryza? I already had the 2nd one though, but Still don't have time playing it, and I'm interested on getting the 3rd one
Well I played a little bit of it so far and it seems pretty good, it definetly never glitched on me like Rorona Plus (PS3) or Lulua (PS4) so it is far from the worst. Still prefer Firis out of the most recent games with her free outfits and huge map zones filled with stuff, somehow that game just never glitched out for me either.
I've never played any of the Atelier games, but they've always intrigued me. Am I correct in assuming you don't need to play them in any particular order? It almost sounds like each one is its own, independent story, with just reusing some of the same characters.
Looks like an interesting title ... but how does it hold up against for example World of Final Fantasy and is this the best in the series on the Switch?
Considering World of Final Fantasy is a budget title with mediocre to acceptable graphics and a largely pointless/nonsensical story and a strange battle system.. and it isn't a slice of life simulation RPG, this is better in virtually every way. Unless you don't like the simulation stuff.
@PixelJellopyBits Let's Plays aside from the ps4 version looking sharper than the switch version, and trophies. I’m not sure if the switch version has the camera selfie option, as far as I know I’ve tried everything on the switch version to see if it exists but I’m probably just doing something wrong. Anyways, the ps4 version looks to have a selfie/camera/filter option that I don’t know if the switch version has. But, anyways if those features like trophies, slightly sharper character and other models or the camera filter don’t matter to you then definitely get the switch version for the portable option.
Thanks for the reply, Maro X . Already have the NSW version yesterday. So far there is no selfie option that I can access. haha! Yes, I'm really into the portability option and I also want to increase my NSW game library as well.
@PixelJellopyBits Let's Plays Awesome. Hopefully you are enjoying it. 20hrs Into my playthrough and it’s quite fun. If you are looking to build up ur switch gaming log. There’s some games that I’d recommend...specifically if you are a fan of the dungeon crawling RPG’s like persona Q. -labyrinth of refrain:coven of dusk. The story is rather interesting and the mechanics are as well, if you ever played a disgaea game, you’ll like the option to customize ur own units and make them OP or weak. -Mary skelter 2. It’s a really cool dungeon rpg. The story and mechanics add some uniqueness to the formula of DRPG. The games story is pretty great, and it includes the 1st game if you have not heard about the game. The story is cool because it involves fairy tale based characters and a world where a living “jail” resides. For $40 digitally and you can get a physical version which will be available for pre orders in limited run games website on the 26th of this month.
Thanks for recommending these games, @@maroXUprising . Already played the demo version of labyrinth of refrain:coven of dusk in my NSW. I'll look into Mary Skelter 2. =D
Another great review! Playing this after finish SteamWorld Quest How are the font size in handheld?. After 7 hrs in front of a screen at work, reading Fire Emblem's text was painful. Both my Joycons had Drift also... Nintendo fixed them for free even with mine being 2+ years launch unit - no questions asked. Send yours in.
The actual alchemy system is the bread and better of the series, but you didn't really get into it. As a veteran, I barely understand what's changed, and I'd bet newcomers have no real idea of what to expect. Still, good review, and thanks for shedding some light on it. :)
@Brian Kinney Ps4 version has trophies, slightly sharper look character models/visuals, and I think a camera filter option to mess around with selfies tho I’m not sure about that last one if it’s present on the switch version, probably is but I haven’t gotten far into the game to know for sure on switch. I forget if the FPS is the same on ps4, 30FPS I think for both versions excluding PC which runs at 60FPS. So if you want that extra option of portable then get the switch version. This series is slow paced and not much action actiony for a rpg, so you could easily just lay in ur couch or play while laying down in bed as you gather ingredients and whatnot to craft stuff.
I’ve never played any of the previous games. Would you suggest it to play even though I haven’t played those. The setup, how the game play work, and story interests me. So just curios if worth for those that haven’t play them before.
This game is like an Atelier Beta. Several good elements (English VA, non MS Japanese VA, Area Info [monsters, materials etc]) were flat out taken out of the game and other elements (weapon skins, character story, max level, bonus dungeons) were taken out to be sold as Season Pass products. Complete disgrace.
Please say you're gonna get your Joycons fixed? That hurts to hear that they all have drifting issues. Spawnwave has some tutorials for Joycon fixes and I think Nintendrew does as well.
As a reviewer pal all if us in the team go through Joycons like anything m8. Just pure wear and tear and I think between the 3 of us we have probably gone through 9 or 10 lots. Seen the vids but it's having the time. It's annoying as as you can imagine it's expensive. Thanks pal
@@SwitchWatch If you were in the US you could just get them replaced lickety split. Do you have a US branch you could talk to? Or maybe some Hori knockoffs that might last a bit longer? I'm just sorry man, that sounds annoying.
@@HolyHadou it's all good pal, we still love our Switches. Just play them a lot so they get worn. @@SwitchWatch Just thanks for the review and especially the weekly sales updates. Though my wallet and memory space on my SD card aren't as happy about that. :)
There's no such thing as AA games. AAA is an industry speak buzzword made up by developers to push what they called "blockbuster" games. The big boys. A game either is AAA or it isn't. There's not a big scale from indie through AAA. Anyway, the series definitely has never been AAA in the past, but this one might be. They really sunk more money into it.
Biggest question I had was is it in Japanese with subtitles, glad to hear that it is. Definitely a day one purchase ... although very brave going up against Luigi! Thanks guys, do you know if the whole game is on the cartridge?
SwitchWatch I tweeted KT Games and they said the same thing; the whole game is on the cartridge. Really looking forward to this one, shame it’s out the same day as Luigi
Thanks for the entertaining review. I'm looking forward to picking this one up later today. It looks like they kind of copied Dragon Quest XI a little bit with the monsters being on the map/hitting them for an advantage. In my mind that's a good thing because DQXI is an instant classic.
I haven't played any Atelier games, but after Dragonquest 11 had such a depressingly generic combat system I could use a new one to get from now to the stacked line up coming in 2020. I think I will give this a try.
@@DeltathRiylaan I admit I'm not a veteran of Dragon Quest and I only played the tutorial which was about the first 5 hours of the game. From what I saw, there was not a single aspect of the combat system that I have not seen in other games, except maybe its a bit more inconvenient to revive fallen party members, and characters who will join your party soon have a period of invincibility. The way you speak about it suggests that there is more to the combat system then what I saw in the tutorial. Can you tell me anything about Dragonquest 11's combat that makes it stand out from other RPG franchises? If there is I might give it a second chance. If you are going to tell me something like "The simplicity is what makes it so charming in the first place," then I will dismiss this franchise as "not for me."
@@Eternalwarpuppy First of all, I appreciate you actually asking a question instead of just firing back angrily. It's possible that Dragon Quest isn't for you, but I posit that doesn't mean anything negative about the game. My initial point wasn't that you would find the battle system deep or engaging (though I do actually think it is both), it's that you called it depressingly generic. Generally speaking, for something to be generic it means it's a knock off of something else. In this case, one so basic it's also depressing. But Dragon Quest literally invented the turn based battle system. For it to be generic is like saying Picasso is derivative. There's a lot to love about the combat in Dragon Quest. The elegance in the math at the base of Dragon Quest's battle system is unlike any other series. It's perfectly honed and balanced and creates an atmosphere of decision making that isn't in almost any turn based system, where generally it boils down to just using your biggest move. There's also a delicate balance between using mp costing abilities and ones that are free or normal attacks. The zone system working in the background that has a lot of specific correlation between the characters and their actions is also interesting, determining when or if they enter "the zone", who they can do bonus attacks with, etc. The fact that all enemies, including bosses, can be affected by virtually every status in the game and that they're immensely diverse and useful is also something uniquely Dragon Quest. Other games don't let you put a boss to sleep or charm a boss, etc, meaning your most interesting abilities never work when they'd be most useful. The way all the character are unique and also have their own character builder to grow them as well as how those change over the game is awesome. How the different types of weapons actually function with unique forms of attack patterns (like a whip hitting all enemies in an AOE group, but doing progressively less damage after each enemy is hit). There's honestly so much more but I can't put it all here. If you really want to understand some of what makes both the battle system and the game as a whole and the franchise incredibly special and decidedly unique, you should watch the Kotaku review of Dragon Quest XI. The one from last year for the PS4, by Tim Rogers.
@@DeltathRiylaan Thanks for thoughtful reply. Honestly if status attacks work on boss battles that makes the game sound completely trivial, at least that is my impression based on what I have seen from other games where status attacks that work on mini bosses. I respect that Dragonquest was the first game to popularize the turn based combat system, but seeing interesting combat systems in action is one of the most important aspects of a JRPG for me, so if Dragonquest has done very little to evolve since game one I will pass on it. I will admit that while Final Fantasy games are hit or miss for me, I respect Square Enix for how vastly different each new title is compared to the previous one.
Not really a good comparison though. They're not in the same genre, their art styles aren't similar, the world and gameplay are entirely different and this is made by an outrageously smaller studio.
I really want to love these games and I love them in theory... but then I lose interest in them and stop playing. Or they're the time constraint variety and I get too stressed to keep going. I'm still hoping for a price drop. I believe the Playstation one dropped but not Switch yet.

Which Limited Run games did you pick up?
@@SwitchWatch Celeste, River City Girls and Iconoclast.
Why do you say $60 is a bit much?
Love these games, I have this one pre ordered
Awesome Keith! Let us know what you think when you've got your hands on it!
Awesome review Jordan like always man.. 👍🏽👍🏽😁
Thanks as always pal
I love Y's and a few other JRPG'S so thats why I'm keen try whatever. This looks cool. I'll get it now n give it a go! Or thinking might checkout the earlier ones first.
This is an excellent review. You really know your stuff.
Ryza is a likeable character, I wonder why:D
She’s very likeable alright for the right reasons
can't wait to buy this on Christmas for Ps4
Hope you enjoy it buddy!
Looks very good. Reckon this'll be my first Atelier game.
Let us know what you think pal.
Me too possibly, I always wanted to get into Atelier but never have a chance to.
got it for Christmas love it buying all Ateliers for switch
Awesome! We have our hands on 3 more right now to review. There are so many!
Great review! I have a backlog a mile long, so this will just get added to the end.
Cheers bud! Hope you get to this one eventually!
Just got this game on switch and the loading screens are looooong. I'm noticing that on this review it's not as bad. Anyone else having this issue? And is there any way to fix it?
I'm not sure buddy. I don't remember having an issue.
This might be my first Atelier game :) thanks for the review :)
Hope you enjoy it! It's definitely a great place to jump in
She does have two charming points.
Only two? 😂
@@SwitchWatch Though it all depends how you count them, I was watching more upwards though I can see thighs charming too.
I really enjoy your video recording style!
Thanks buddy!
Tempted to buy this but I'm a bit scared it's going to be too complex.
Thanks! Great Review!
Cheers Peter!
I both like and hate the time system i think it actually works in some of the games it made sense in escha and logy honestly
I think it was necessary to drop it in order to appeal to a wider audience
@@SwitchWatch I get what you are saying I think it could of been a lenient one if they wanted but or use it only in certain situations but I get it I think it's ok to drop it but I kinda dont want it fully gone well this one it makes sense to remove it considering the summer memory things but man rorona that one I couldnt even get past really anything because of it but I do like multiple endings which this one will seem 2 drop that's fun in games cause ya get to see what could of happened oh well what happens happens I can't wait to play
This is the best atelier game i would like to see ryza in another atelier game.love the alchemist system and battle system.
Thanks for a heads up and reviewing it..
I am definitely going to buy this tomorrow here and this would be my first Atelier Game 😁 IDK but Stout got my attention and hook me buying it so yeah Hahaha
Hope you enjoy it buddy!
This looks great!
Great review!
Thanks buddy!
Do you know if this game has a physical release? I've been looking to try out the Aetelier series, and this seems like a decent starting point, especially with the visuals and performance on the switch compared to the other entries
Yes it does buddy. Check our weekly physicals Switch games videos if you're wondering if a game has a physical release or not. 😊
I have always wanted to jump into an Atelier game. This might be a good one to start with. However I am also going to wait until I can get it much cheaper.
I think it might be the best one to start with!
I am really enjoying playing Atalier THICC
THICC indeed! Nice view 😉
My girlfriend loves this games. I never played a single one of them, but I'll probably try this one in a near future.
Worth a try for sure
I've never played any of the Atelier games, but they've always intrigued me. Am I correct in assuming you don't need to play them in any particular order? It almost sounds like each one is its own, independent story, with just reusing some of the same characters.
Yes pal, you can play any of them and no need to play in order
@@SwitchWatch awesome, thanks for the clarification!
Looks like an interesting title ... but how does it hold up against for example World of Final Fantasy and is this the best in the series on the Switch?
I'd say it's the best in the series and I think it goes toe-to-toe with WoFF
Considering World of Final Fantasy is a budget title with mediocre to acceptable graphics and a largely pointless/nonsensical story and a strange battle system.. and it isn't a slice of life simulation RPG, this is better in virtually every way. Unless you don't like the simulation stuff.
Choosing between a PS4 or a NSW version of this game. I'm leaning on Switch since right now due to your review. Thank you! =D
I’m not sure what the PS4 would be able to do better to be honest. It doesn’t seem like there’s a compromise on Switch
@PixelJellopyBits Let's Plays
Awesome.
Is the deluxe version worth it? And how many hours to finish it? First time into the series.
Personally I don't see any real need, the base game has done me just fine.
SwitchWatch Thanks appreciate it!
Another great review! Playing this after finish SteamWorld Quest
How are the font size in handheld?. After 7 hrs in front of a screen at work, reading Fire Emblem's text was painful. Both my Joycons had Drift also... Nintendo fixed them for free even with mine being 2+ years launch unit - no questions asked. Send yours in.
A little on the small side, although it's tough for me to judge since I have perfect sight haha
@@SwitchWatch ok... Thanks for the info!
Yeah... My eyes start there in the morning... By 7pm Refresh Optive eye drops are my best friends 😅
The actual alchemy system is the bread and better of the series, but you didn't really get into it. As a veteran, I barely understand what's changed, and I'd bet newcomers have no real idea of what to expect. Still, good review, and thanks for shedding some light on it. :)
You're welcome! Sorry I didn't go into too much depth on that section.
@@SwitchWatch Yeah, no worries. It's still a useful and well done overview. :)
The resulting curvature of those thighs as the sock applies pressure to the circumference of her legs. Quite a nice touch.
Great attention to detail haha
What's the switch and ps4 differences,do u know if they are significant
I don't know sorry buddy
@Brian Kinney
Ps4 version has trophies, slightly sharper look character models/visuals, and I think a camera filter option to mess around with selfies tho I’m not sure about that last one if it’s present on the switch version, probably is but I haven’t gotten far into the game to know for sure on switch.
How long did it take you to beat the game?
After putting 80 hours into Dragon Quest XI, I don’t know if I’m ready for another super long game.
Not as long as DQ. It will probably take you 30 hours, depending on how leisurely you are
Nice review. :)
Thanks!
I’ve never played any of the previous games. Would you suggest it to play even though I haven’t played those. The setup, how the game play work, and story interests me. So just curios if worth for those that haven’t play them before.
This is a great starting point I think.
Sure buy, this looks like the best Atelier game of the recent years
I think it probably is
Remember when they said turn based jrpgs were dead?;)
Sure do!
Well, Koei Tecmo can't resist their DLC
No I am China based so quite tough and James and Juan are UK and even then they just end up buying more as we need a working unit to review games although we have started to use our pro controller a lot more. Thanks again
@@SwitchWatch Just thanks for the review and especially the weekly sales updates. Though my wallet and memory space on my SD card aren't as happy about that. :)
Be honest, which better in term of gameplay. ryza or tales of berseria?
If you ignore the graphics visual
Sadly never player Berseria. Hopefully someone else can help you out!
For gameplay, i'll say berseria
I'll buy it as soon as I find it cheaper, here in Brasil games for Nintendo's plataform are crazy expensive
Yeah I've heard that. Can't you import?
How expensive are they?
I always wanted to try out the atelier series but they never come out with a physical copy wich sucks
The last few have had physical versions for sure
I, of course preordered the collector's edition. I'm a pretty big fan of the series...
Awesome buddy! I’m jealous
I've always thought of Atelier games as AA games at most, as a measure of budget. That's part of why it didn't get a dub, after all.
I guess that’s true, but this is honestly the closest one I’ve played I’d perhaps call a triple A game. At least in terms of what JRPGs are these days
It should be all on the cartridge unless you count the DLC costumes and all that. It's only 5GB so I can't see this one needing any download.
SwitchWatch I tweeted KT Games and they said the same thing; the whole game is on the cartridge. Really looking forward to this one, shame it’s out the same day as Luigi
have not tried the series yet, seems like a good one to get started on :)
The perfect place to start, buddy!
This game or trails of mana
How is this new atelier compared to atelier ayesha and esca-logy?

I would say the port is excellent
Me telling my friends: I just heard the game was really good and wanted to try it.
Me to myself: Thicc.

@@SwitchWatch You deserve it. Looking forward to more great videos 😊
Guys, does this compare to Golden Sun at all? I cant find a similr game :(
The gameplay is similar but the feeling and story aren’t alike
SwitchWatch thanks for the response! Would you recommend it for me to try? I usually love rpgs
Thanks for the entertaining review. I'm looking forward to picking this one up later today. It looks like they kind of copied Dragon Quest XI a little bit with the monsters being on the map/hitting them for an advantage. In my mind that's a good thing because DQXI is an instant classic.
Perhaps, although that feature has been in the genre a while, it’s only the bigger series are starting to integrate it as standard these days
I haven't played any Atelier games, but after Dragonquest 11 had such a depressingly generic combat system I could use a new one to get from now to the stacked line up coming in 2020. I think I will give this a try.
It might be worth a shot, similar to DQ11 but still fresh enough to feel like a palate cleanser
If you think Dragon Quest XI had a depressingly generic combat system, you obviously don't understand Dragon Quest at all.
1:12 8 hours before any danger lol reminds me of Suikoden 5. I barely have 8 free hours in a week.
Well you still have fights, battle away but just getting on with your day. Still having a good time.
Suikoden references tho 👌🏾
How do u compare with zelda botw? Looks better or worse?
This? Compared to Zelda? BOTW looks better pal. That's an incredible game and has an awesome art style
Should drop in time i would say
