Excellent detailed review of the Hiby R2 Gen 2, and you've covered everything there is to know! I have watched several of your reviews and they are the most detailed of all reviews on RUclips. I have the R3 Pro Saber, the older version not the 2022 one, and I noticed that the R2 2nd Gen. has all of the essential features of the R3. Most importantly, it has a newer chip and will be having the good battery life that the company claims is 15 hours of continuous playback. The issue is that my old R3 has a weak battery that doesn't run for more than 5-6 hours and the DAP has an older chip. Plus I see some lagginess and have some random reboots now and then. Since the R2 is priced very well and is quite affordable, I am considering buying it. I know you reviewed the R3 Pro Saber a long time ago, but do you think the R2 2nd Gen. with the newer chip as compared to my old R3 Pro Saber will be at least a bit better sounding, and not worse? Or will you recommend another DAP like the Shanling or Hidizs AP80 over this even though they are priced higher?
Actually, HiBy are teasing us with a new R3 II, so it can be an answer to your demands. As for current R3 vs R2 II, R3 has a better sound due to amplification, difference isn't huge, but it's audible
I'm new to DAPs and audiophile equipment in general and I just picked up this device, is the sound across all of these tiny DAPs very similar or does one shine above the rest?
For its price I don't know another models with the similar sound quality (but it doesn't mean they don't exist :) ), for a 20-30 dollars more you can get Shanling M0 Pro or Hidizs MS80 Pro X (this one is better in SQ)
Can i use a dac between r2 gen 2 and my iem? Actually i want a dap for travels and bedtime listening. And also i don't want to use my phone as the source . So can it be the one for me?
I bought one of these recently and came across your review. Good stuff. How would you connect it to a Fiio K7 for the best possible bitrate sound quality?
@@PortaFi Oh okay, Thanks for the info. I see Shanling M0 Pro has this functionality where I can connect Bluetooth headphones to DAP, which is connected to PC via USB ( working as Bluetooth transmitter )
Do you know a DAP of this small form factor on Asahi-Kosei, which can run android streaming like Qobuz? I'm desperately looking for something small, similar to FiiO Q3 sound-wise
unfortunately I can't recall anything recent with AK but in general, DAC doesn't define the sound, all components are involved, so it's more a matter of representation, not DAC chip per se as far as I remember, Q3 has a slightly warmish signature with a massive hits. if you'll have an opportunity, try Shanling M3 Ultra. it's not like "really similar in sound", but it's the closest one I can recall. and it's a good player in general
Well, I'm working on accent reduction, but it's almost impossible for non-native speaker from another language group. So only thing I can say is "sorry" :) Not like I'm defending myself, but during my trips to the US I've found out that my accent isn't among the worst ones :)
Hey man cheers from Costa Rica you are my go to guy on DAP reviews!
thank you! greeting from Ukraine!

between this and the ap 80 pro x which one do you prefer and why? the hiby one has audio recorder which is a nice feature.
I didn't test the most recent version of AP80, but I assume it didn't get worse, so it will be bit more natural and detailed
R2 II or M0 Pro?
Subjectively, I prefer R2 II, it has a bit better UI

If I remember right, yes, it works as a transport, but IMO getting R3 II will be more convenient that R2 II + DAC
@@PortaFi thanks for answering sir

Via USB, it's the most straightforward way.
Can this transmit via Bluetooth when connected to a PC via USB as DAC?
as far as I remember, it doesn't work this way. but it's not 100%
@@PortaFi Oh okay, Thanks for the info. I see Shanling M0 Pro has this functionality where I can connect Bluetooth headphones to DAP, which is connected to PC via USB ( working as Bluetooth transmitter )
yes, shanlings can do that

Is there an issue with it when it resumes playing after suspend mode that the audio is very loud?
I didn't face such issue, but probably it's not enough for statistics )))
Can this recieve aptx?
sorry, I don't remember. it's better to ask at HiBy's support
@@PortaFi ok thanks.. I am going with the tempotec V3 anyway, even though I like the R2 form factor better
how about sound quality vs ibasso dc04pro?
sorry for my English
Unfortunately, I didn't test DC04 Pro. Compared to 03 Pro, they are more or less on par
@@PortaFi sorry par mean?😅
does this mean it's similar to 03pro?
@@sogeking1299 no, they aren't similar, DC03 Pro is more energetic, while R2-2 is weightier. But overall "level" is more or less the same
looks awsome!
It does!
i have the m1s & i'm thinking maybe i should have got the r2II 🤷♂
good review & thanks for not treating us like idiots 😁
if you already have M1S, then R2II won't make much sense for you :)
Does it has fm radio?
no, it doesn't
It has Bluetooth 5.0
no offense bro...the accent killing me😂 other than that all good.
