Even though Islam is a minority in Serbia, its development is quite good along with the decline in Christian and Catholic followers
Islam was brought to Serbia by the armies of the Ottoman Empire in 1389 and 1448 through the two battles of Kosovo. When controlled by the Ottoman Empire, its population was 500,000 people. However, after being separated from the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the number dropped drastically to 12,000 people in 1834.
Islam in Serbia is the largest minority religion in Serbia. According to the 2020 census, 231,750 people or 3.2% of the total population of Serbia are Muslim.
