If you have 2 people, you can do it like they did in the old days. One person pulls on the steering wheel braced against the floor, the nut loosened but not removed. The second person hits the end shaft of the steering wheel (where the nut is) with a large hammer. The shock and vibration will allow the wheel to come off and is stopped by the nut so it doesn't hit you in the face (you are pulling VERY hard). Works kind of line an impact wrench. If the nut is in the way, remove it and lay the seat back. When the wheel comes off, you don't get hit.
Congratulations on your resourcefulness! You'd have made a good farmer! I've got to take a swipe at Nissan for this...c'mon, how much money did you REALLY save by not placing threaded steering wheel removal jacking points on the steering column? By not doing so, you've made YET ANOTHER "simple-30-minute-job" into a 2-hour-PITA-job. I think there should be a law that in order to become a licensed automotive engineer, you have to wrench full-time for a year first!
VQ40DE isn't the best Nissan V6 from what I've heard. I believe that is a variable force deployment airbag and that is the reason for the two connectors.
I’ve seen this on trucks where shorter people use the steering wheel to pull themselves up on the seat. Nissan sure didn’t do you any favors on ease of replacement though.

I have always loosened nut a bit and pulled, to date never has failed.
Greetings from rock springs eastbound.. enjoy those cards
Good heavens! That fix came at a very appropriate time for me and is shear genius! Many thanks my friend! Was that Stella's idea?
The nut behind the wheel is the most common problem with cars.
Hey Stella 🐶
Love Nissan we have a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder SV 4 x 4 now has 157000 miles on it and running great
That is a pretty neat idea!
we have 1988 gmc 2500 and the wheel was loose like yours there were 6 torx screws became loose above the tilt section
I believe the word you were looking for is intuitive...
self - evident .
Yep, intuitive, obvious, etc.
Self explanatory?

A tricky one!

I'm sure pulling on the steering wheel to get in caused this problem
It's not intuitive.
