Parents in 2007: "don't believe everything you read on the computer!" Those same parents now: "someone on the internet told me Biden is a cyborg from Mars, so I'm gonna go yell slurs at children"
Glad my parents aren’t that way but they have many friends like that… Worst case my moms Russian anti vax friend She is active in my country’s QAnon („Queer Denker“ and no it’s not that kind of queer) Example: Back in 2021 she made her young kids (7+8 also my moms quasi god kids) call my mom to beg her not get the vaccine or else my mom would die the kids cried because they were afraid to loose my mom (my mom got it two days before the call but didn’t tell them) The obviously fake stuff this woman spouted about Ukraine is unhinged How she controls her children and makes up conspiracy theories about our government… and also mixes up historical facts… into my moms face who’s parents experienced this My mom just puts up with this for her god kids and I admire her patience not to smack this woman (especially for manipulating her children into crying over my moms vaccination)

Well you arent wrong. In most chases thats peobadly the truth. I wouldnt always since symbols or words on clothes can be seen as Sinful in differnt Religion. Funny Story there since I know someone whos Outfit was called sinful cause he was supporting a Band. Many bands he supported actually have merch or use pictures that are about rebellion or breaking away from the norms of religion or the World itself
While that is true the majority of the time, not quite in this specific instance. In this specific case it's more trans woman wearing woman's clothes = sinful. Because they don't see her as a woman. They see her as a man and thus a crossdresser, and with all the stuff about Drag going on and such, in their minds anyone they believe is a man whose wearing women's clothing is sinful.
i work in a plant nursery and this one old dude comes in on mother's day with his kids to get his wife some flowers. Dude asks for flowers for his wife and I ask "Well, what kind of flowers does she like? I'm sure we'll have them somewhere." He looked me dead in the eyes and said "I dunno, just get me flowers she'd like." I then asked "Well, how much sun does your garden get? Full sun? Shade? What colors does she like?" He just says again "Just get me flowers she likes." I gave him a pot of petunias and he asked "Does she like this?" I just said yes and sent him on his way. Like yes sir, I have a psychic connection with the woman you loved enough to marry and know her exact tastes
I'm an elder millennial and quite a lot of my neighbours are boomers and most of them are like this. And when they're talking about how bad "young people" have it they aren't only talking about 20 something's. To them I'm still a youngster...
My great grandma was like her, she was the _only_ person in my family who understood how tough it was graduating in the midst of horrible recession in the early 90s; no one was hiring a 18yo, when much older, more educated and experienced applicants had real trouble landing even menial jobs. I even interviewed for door-to-door selling job, total scam. Simultaneously I was pretty much chased out of my childhood home and moving in to my first own place in a hurry, I had no choice but to get on social security and other possible government perks. Everyone else thought I was just lazy, looking for an easy life on other’s dime (tax money) and very much undeservedly; but granny, who read newspapers daily, knew what it really was like for young adults at the time. She had also lived thru two wars (we are Finns) and much worse economical times. She even knew what other sources I should look into, where are the closest food banks, churches, any and all possible help for my situation. And she was also the only one who consoled me. She was the only person, besides my peers, who truly understood me, the predicament I was in and the depression that crept in with it; feeling like a failure of gigantic proportions and not living up to the decent standard, that my parents and rest of fam forced on me. She probably saved my life! Just realized this.. She wasn’t highly educated, but wicked smart and understanding, with a huge heart. Im eternally grateful for having her in my corner for my first 20 years and teaching me how to human with decency. Not to mention the mountain of practical things she taught me, from patching wool socks to psychology. I love and miss you, granny Elsa, you absolute rockstar of a person! Everybody should have someone like her close to them, everyone.
What is said: "I don't work here!" What is understood: "I am employed at this place, yet I am lazy and refuse to do my work, so go ahead and try make me."
Yeah it feels so entitled, every generation has one or two of them but with boomers and gen X it just looks like all of them are so entitled. Even when i met really nice boomers and nice gen Xer, the loud once can make a whole generation feel so entitled.
It literally happened to my friend. We went to a supermarket to buy snacks and my friend was wearing beige pants and navy blue polo shirt. It looked a bit like the shirt the employees wore but without the company logo. A guy went up to my friend and asked where to find pickled fish. He politely told the man that he didn't know because he didn't work there. He even showed him our cart. And this guy just straight up didn't believe him, and wanted to call the manager. It was wild.
@juliaboskamp9666 fr my father who is gen x was saying he was being profiled at a restaurant even though he is very white and got pissed that we didnt get offered dessert even though we never get dessert and when we left it was less than 20 minutes before closing time
I've had someone mistake me for an employee before, but at least they realized that they made a mistake and apologized. I think they may have just been tired and weren't really paying that close of attention to what I was wearing. They asked if I know where something was and when I replied that I don't and said "I don't work here" they looked me up and down and said "oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't even registering how you're dressed". I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and sandals. They apologized again and moved on. I honestly think that some people just make assumptions sometimes and then feel too embarrassed to admit they're wrong, but then just double down by embarrassing themselves further.
I told someone "I'm 13, I legally can't work here" and they still found a manager and demanded I be fired. Which he eventually "did" after replying to "This child does not work here" with "I don't care they don't work here, I want them fired". Then accused the manager of mocking her when he said to me "You're fired". Like he did what you asked.
17:26 My parents are literal boomers, and my Grandma thinks babies are basically vegetables that cry until they start moving on their own. This is the thinking from before ALL modern research on infant development which showed the importance of emotional connection and mental stimulation from birth. This might also explain boomers seeming a bit emotionally stunted IMO.
But there was lots of research (that my parents used when we were growing up in the 60s) appearing when early boomers were young adults to show that interacting with children and providing them with a stimulating environment is important to their development.
Not gonna lie, this makes so much sense to me that this would be a thing they believed. My uncles that are boomers have said my grandma never baby talked to them/the younger siblings, or even just adult voice talked to them. That explains why
Back in the 50's, psychologists thought too much attention was bad for babies, made them too dependent on their mother. ...This was bullcrap, but that's what psychologists thought.🤦🏻♂️
I'll never get over how the right wing nuts heard Taylor tell her fans "Vote for the people who best represent you" and immediately assumed she was saying 'dont vote for Trump'. Like, way to admit your politician doesn't represent a huge amount of Americans.
We had something similar here in Germany. In Cologne the restaurant owners had paper coasters printed with slogans like "No place for neo-nazis" and "Against fashism" and the AfD (an extreme right-wing conservative party here in Germany) immediately complained that they were discriminated against, while at the same time constantly claiming that they aren't neo-nazis (which they atleast in part are). The AfD was never mentioned on those coasters at all, didn't even use their colours or any other reference that would have hinted at them talking about the AfD in these slogans.
I'd like to note that at the time that "1960s ladies" picture was taking, older generations would have been horrified and disgusted by their short skirts and would have sl*t shamed them for being out in public in such disgraceful attire.
When they looked perfectly fine! Just like women with tattoos, nose piercings, and dyed hair! I don’t get why those little additions to people’s appearances cause such an uproar!
What if 30 years from now people dress in ways that are even wilder and our generation starts shaming them for it and using pictures of girls with colored hair and piercing and idk sports bras to compare how normal we were…
As a 65 year old Boomer I have stood proudly with Gay Pride protestors demanding equal rights. I was blessed to be at the wedding of my gay friends. They were also Boomers. LOL!!! I’m laughing because my parents who grew up in the Great Depression and others from that same generation told my generation we had no work ethic and would never amount to anything. They railed against the long hair of the guys, complained about our always wearing jeans. Every generation will condemn the next generation coming up. I avoided that behavior because I studied history and saw how every generation repeated this same silly behavior. The more society changes the more it stays the same.
"The more society changes the more it stays the same" is an amazing line. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It's sad that every generation seems to condemn the younger one instead of supporting it. As a 30 year old millennial I want to hope our generation can do better. I at least, like you, want to be kind to other people. Have a lovely day!
We need more older people being supportive like you! It’s the older generations who have most of the say when it comes to the younger peoples’ freedoms 😩
this is by far one of the sweetest things i've read in a while. people like you spreading this idea that every generation is wildly different and shouldn't be shamed, hopefully that idea will spread around and transcend generations. ive seen other gen z kids criticizing gen alpha for the skibidi toilet memes as if we didn't have absurdist humor ourselves. they forget how much the millennials criticized us too. every generation is different and kinda cringe. but this outlook is such a positive message. ❤

Isn't talking to babies like you would to slightly older children- simple but sensible vocabulary, asking them questions- actually good for their cognitive and social development? Like, way better than babbling at them?
In general yes, don't use babble. Whether it's a proper word or nonsense, to a baby it's just random syllables either way, so might as well get them used to actual words. On the other hand, that high-pitched sing-song voice adults instinctively seem to fall into when talking to babies, is apparently a tone that babies more readily respond to and are more stimulated by, so there's an evolutionary reason for the annoying 'baby talk'.
My grandma talked to me and my cousin with a baby-talk voice until we were 16 and 17, respectively. My cousin got fed up with it and yelled at her, and she hasn't done it since except as accidental spill-over after talking to my cousin's toddlers.
I was reading an age appropriate pop out book about sharks to my son while we waited at Village Inn for our lunch. A female boomer harasses us, telling me that reading is a waste of time and should never be in public. WTF? He grew up to be a respected librarian, notary and a beautiful human being.
atleast you're not me (16) who went to walmart yesterday and saw a female boomer riding a scooter with ZERO PANTS, UNDERWEAR, OR BRA, all she had was a cowboy hat and tank top
I'd heard of the concept of "reading is a waste of time" before, but... shouldn't be in public? What, is this the new breastfeeding? Are we just banning parents from doing anything with their kids in public now?
@@trishapellis Just insane! 15th Years later and I still don't understand. I read to my boy everywhere after that. “You’re being sinful,I’m not a sinner!” My brother in Christ that’s literally the worst thing you could possibly say as a Christian,to say you are without sin is to say you are Christlike,I’m an atheist but the Bible makes it very clear that we are all sinners, save for god and that our sins are forgiven through him,to call someone else a sinner is literally one of the things Jesus says not to do! “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone” I know I went on a bit of a rant over that one meme but shit like that just twists my nips the wrong way. It's just an irony that usually people who's think they're religious are the ones who twist or nit-pick the holy book's verses, sadly this isn't exclusively for Christianity :"D this also happens in my religion, sadly, they're persecuted people who are different than them, even tho one of the our prophet's friends said "if they're not your brothers in (this) religion, they're still your brothers in humanity" and yet they're still refused it and just labelling people as sinners willy-nilly :"D
As an ACTUAL Christian who actually knows this shit unlike these Boomers, I'm so glad to see that even those who are without Christ understands the meaning behind our philosophy. I also have this odd belief that even atheists are affected by fate or destiny or whatever, so even if you don't have a higher power that you worship, I am of the belief that the universe itself will reward your kindness somehow. Stay safe, my friend.

Less extreme, the kid hears language in passing and is still able to learn. Their social communication and general language skills will be below average, though.
@flamefangstar The first 3 years before school are really important for development. If they go to school with no (or even minimal) exposure to language, they'll be way behind. I CONSTANTLY talked to all three of my kids in a normal voice before they could talk. They all started speaking sooner than their their peers (not like, shockingly but still they were ahead of schedule) Why the heck wouldn't you talk to babies? That's literally how they learn to talk
Yep. And even after they can talk, continue to use words they don't know. Because how else are they supposed to learn new words if you only use words they already know? I've done that with swim lesson kids and had boomers complain at me. Like I'm already teaching them a lot of new words related to swimming, what's a few more?
Same with my offspring. They learn by hearing you talk. So talk in a way you want them to talk later. Same for swear words and so on when they grow up.
The kid shouldn't have broken the ukulele yes but what even does punching this child achieve??? It doesn't teach the kid a lesson it's just abuse. But then I guess this teacher had already gone off the deep end. Also as an autistic person myself, if someone has screamed at me good morning after I didn't reply I would immediately be overwhelmed/scared and less likely to respond.
Seriously you send the kid to the office, have an arrangement he and his parents will back it back and he is banned from instruments and maybe has a detention! Teacher should've done nothing more than call someone to resolve the situation! And definitely not scream at any of the kids, never. I had a health teacher who thought it was disrespectful for our *FIRST HOUR CLASS* not wanting to really respond to questions, he also played religious music which was annoying and while technically ok, I think there's an unspoken rule that you don't do that, just in my own opinion

We hadn't trained for this or anything, but for some reason our team leader decided that we should go. We quite predictably got last place, with almost no points. I googled the alligator story. “Wiencek was playing the 11th hole of Fripp Island's Ocean Creek Golf Course in 2009 when he reached down to pick up his ball. He was attacked by a 400-pound alligator that dragged him into a pond. The case against Fripp Island Resort Inc. was handled in federal court but did not go to trial. Attorney Mark Chappell said the resort's documents showed alligators were routinely fed by visitors. Chappell says his client was not warned.” He got a settlement, but it was not disclosed how much.
It's also possible it was his insurance pressing the suit rather than the man himself. If they can make the golf course pay his medical bills, they won't have to.
One of my coworkers is a boomer and is big into conspiracy theories and said "if the moon landing was real, why haven't we been back?" "Because it's haunted," I said without skipping a beat. My manager nodded in agreement, "oh it's SO haunted" Boomer had no response and jyst dropped the subject. Refuting boomers with complete nonsense is A+ strategy
Copy-pasting is against company policies. That's a new one. Reason #1 why millennials don't buy Harley-Davidsons: They're busy paying their 2.5K$ monthly rent and try to save enough to buy a property.
Convincing boomers that "sinful" is the new slang so it confuses them is brilliant. Especially if they now think they can't say it anymore, and start telling and convincing their friends that they can't use it. Like absolutely brilliant.
I am certain that "sinful" has been used several times to describe fashion on national TV in the US. Ru Paul's Dragrace has got a lot of variance on the outfits. Some are absolutely slaying with their sinful looks.
The input button post is wild. As a former tech support employee that is PAINFULLY real, ESPECIALLY when it uses the cord icon instead of saying 'source' or 'input'. I had this sweet woman on the phone once who was just completely baffled by her TV and remote and I figured it was an input issue (as it so often was). When I asked her to find the input button she informed me the buttons just had icons. I asked her to describe what it looked like so I could figure out if what she was looking at was the input button. She laughed and then said "It looks kinda like fallopian tubes". One of my favorite calls ever
What I love about the "sinful" one is that now the boomer will be hesitant to use 'sinful' again. He won't want to compliment someone. OP might have saved a lot of people a hassle.
fun fact: it is *incredibly* illegal to cut down trees on someone else's property, and depending on the type and size of the tree it can be valid grounds to sue for potentially tens of thousands of dollars.
Depending on where you live, it is legal to cut off branches that grew into/over your property. Although I seriously doubt this was the case in this situation.

The "millenials expect a participation trophy" has always been wild to me cuz, bruh, we didn't expect to get them as kids. *You* were the ones who decided we needed to have them in the first place.
Blah. I didn't expect anything aside from photos and cool memories. At the most, those participation awards ended up in scrapbooks; most ended up getting tossed.
I never even saw the bloody things growing up. From what I can tell it's a very fringe thing that got blown way out of proportion, assuming the whole thing wasn't just a hoax in the first place.
Yeah, I do remember getting ribbons and stuff for participating in events and other stuff as a little kid, but it's not like I was demanding to get some kind of trophy. And it's not like little kids were lobbying school boards to change their practices to get them. To the extent it's done, I imagine it was mostly to soothe the adult parents who thought we needed to have them. I don't think it's a big deal either way, but using that to snark against those damn kids when it's something that that generation did doesn't really make sense.
The "don't talk to your baby" one is so strange. I'm not a parent and I never will be and even I know that kids pick up language from hearing their parents talk, that's like child development 101. How's the kid supposed to learn to talk if you don't talk to it??
If anything like that happens to you, start asking the boomer if they are lost, where their care worker is and if you should call anyone for them. Just start treating them like they are senile and they will either leave or cause a scene to the point that others will believe they are senile as well.
Yes this is so strange. I even talk to animals that way, sure they won't learn anything, but they enjoy it. It's friendly and socialising. And for a baby it's pretty much the same thing. They realise that you notice them and that you are friendly towards them.
Yes! Talking to your baby and giving it affection is one of the most important parts of child development! I adore psychology stuff and know that those are considered the most formative developmental years.
The old woman who talked about how hard things are for younger people and how she feels bad for them reminds me of my own grandmother. She's always been very in touch with the world, and we've had wonderful conversations about stuff like this before. The thing to remember about subreddits like this is that not ALL old people are like this - this is just a highlight of the old people who ARE like this.
My mom is a boomer. Not veery in touch, but still very proud than my brother and I could afford property in our early 30s. Thanks to her, because she gives her free money every month. We want to make her keep that money for her retirement, but she threatened to disown us (yeah. My mom's logic) if we'd try to refuse that money.
I had a conversation with an older boomer customer at work one day that restored a little faith in boomers. It was June first and I said "Happy Pride!" I was in a good mood because it was the first day of pride month. The awesome lady that was probably around 55 or 60 responded with "Same to you! I can't wait to take my grandson to the parade. It's his and my first. He came out a couple years (he is trans) and I can't believe how brave he is!" I feel a little better about the world now
Yep, it really varies. My grandma and my sperm donors mother were extremely different people. I'm sure from my phrasing you can guess who I called at least once a week, and whose house I was at at least a couple times a month. My grandma wasn't super up to date on the world, but she tried and when she didn't know she cared and would listen. Which was wonderful (oh here come the waterworks, damn I miss her). Job advice was a total dud though, cause she stopped working around the time she got married and was basically like "IDK how it works these days". My sperm donors mother on the other hand? Thought she wasn't racist for not wanting the entirety of a minority group genocided.
Why don't I have a motorcycle? It's not a practical primary vehicle, and I cant afford a "fun" vehicle if I wanted one. Like most things, we simply can't afford it.
It's also worth noting that they have easily the highest mortality rate of things on the road. They're just not safe. Plus motorcycle insurance is another bitch to deal with when insurance is already hell. And with that in mind, I still see actual millennials ride them to my college campus. It's my generation (Zoomers) who don't because they're impractical as fuck
That poor old man trying to rein in his crazy wife. I remember when my mom's dementia started to go really downhill and my dad had to stop her from yelling at random people we've never met on the street.
Yeah, he at least seemed to know it wasn't a good idea to come into a house uninvited and then refuse to leave, but he didn't have a problem also arguing with the man filming.
My grandma had a Polish caretaker, and when the dementia progressed she was insulting the poor Women horribly in her own language (Our greatgrandma was from a region bordering Poland and grew up biligual, so my grandma knew some Polish)
He definitely knows that's why he isn't talking and he even tried to get her to leave He says " leave this guy alone" man he's must of been through so much drama due to her
Yeah this woman is definitely having some sort of mental health issues here. I'm leaning towards her having dementia, as others have said. It's hard because she has no idea what she's doing, but if you escalate the situation, she could easily get violent, and still have no clue what she's doing.
I work retail and the very old people expect to be waited on and followed the second they walk into the store. They definitely don’t realise times have changed and staff don’t have the time or people available to do that. Some will literally wait ages somewhere and then eventually go to the one person working on that massive department and say, “I have been waiting for 20 minutes over at the swimwear, there is no one there!”. Yeah because there is only me and I am here!! They don’t realise if you want help you need to find a staff member yourself not expect one to find you! And we don’t usually want to find them anyway because they are rude!!!
Well in a way I can't blame them. They grew up in a time where customer service meant something. These days you're lucky if a store doesn't expect you to be your own unpaid check-out staff.
I mean sometimes they make sure you are finding stuff, but usually when I see the staff they are just restocking, or in general not waiting for someone to need help, and you gotta find someone, or use the app and figure it out, excluding small stores that are family run or whatever
@diarmuidkuhle8181 And you know what happens when you are actually helping a customer ahead of them. Lots of angry foot taps and then eventually a very loud "excuse me, I need assistance".
Exactly! I had two elderly people the other day who were on the opposite side of the store passive aggressively commenting on how "clearly nobody works here because i can't get any help". I was up at the front cashiering with 5 people in my line. A customer who is a regular of mine told me about it as one of my managers was walking by. My boss went to help them and I don't know what she said to them but they refused to say anything to me the entire transaction when I was ringing up their items. My only hope is my manager handed their asses to them and reminded them that the only employee regularly on the store floor is the one at the front and that NOBODY is going to hear them complaining loudly from across the store while cashiering. Fvkin assholes
It depends on the elders. Native American elders are respected because of what they do, caring for children, teaching the old ways, fighting for tribal rights. We don't respect them for being older, we respect them because of experience and wisdom. ❤
This! Our elders earn that status. Just getting old doesn't make you an elder. I know someone close to my own age (I'm almost 40) who is considered an elder cause he's teaching our ways to younger folk.
THIS!!! I’m from Canada and in the middle of several different treaty lands and territories (sorry if I’m phrasing that wrong, I am paaaainfully white). The elders I have met have been so wise and kind and respectful. In fact, a trans conference I went to recently had an elder as a guest who had a wonderful speech. I remember him sharing a story where he was going to another treaty’s territory when he was younger, and his elder at the time told him to “leave his pack behind, they will give us all we need”. Essentially saying to not judge the people he was about to meet, to experience what they were told and given. And he told us trans folks that he was here to learn and listen. He had left his pack at the door. It was one of the most respectful things I had ever heard from someone… especially someone his age.
Absolutely. I respected my Nana because she taught me to cook and clean right. She had incredibly forward thinking views on labor and lgbtq rights despite being a Christian. She never pushed it on me, and only ever said she wanted to see me happy and kind to others. Some days I'm neither and I hope she understands, wherever she is now. I'm going to keep trying, nan. ❤
50:41 ... one of the few perks of being self-employed is that I simply can BAN those harpies from my shop. I mean the moment anybody dares to talk like this to me IN MY SHOP they are out. And I PRAY they don't heed my warning to leave the property. Because I never had actually police in my shop ... well other than to shop for flowers at the end of their shift, that is.
The real reason fewer millennials and younger are buying Harley-Davidson motorcycles? Motorcycles aren't especially convenient vehicles (when it comes to shopping for instance), and if they have the desire and money for a motorcycle, there are much better ones than Harley-Davidson. Many Japanese motorcycles are cheaper but higher quality and aren't intentionally made to be annoyingly loud!
Yes, that's what I was saying too. Only the boomers have the Harley Davidson nostalgia to pay those outrageous prices for the brand name. Anyone else who wants a motorcycle (usually for commuting to work) isn't concerned with "looking cool" while doing it.
Someone I am very close to is in his 70s, when he was young and just out of the Millitary (Vietnam Vet), he was going to buy a motorcycle and was given this advice. If you love Harleys, buy a Harley. If not buy something else, because they are a lot of work. He bought a Honda Goldwing instead.
i'm a zoomer with a motorbike and i was literally told in the dealership i shouldn't get a harley bc of how often they break down lol. i already knew what i wanted anyway which was an electric and im so so happy with it :D
Motorcycles are convenient if you live somewhere where fuel is expensive, there's no parking or expensive parking for cars, there's heavy traffic on your commute and it's legal to lane-split. I had a motorcycle but it was a cheap one, not a Harley. It was a secondhand Kawasaki with after market exhaust (that part was set up by the previous owner). Only as loud as it needed to be for safety, not obnoxiously so.
I’ve heard that the volume is a safety measure to help people know they are there Edit: to clarify, I have been told this by people who ride, I do not know how true it is but it is important to know that at least those riding believe it to be a safety feature so as a driver you have to be aware of why they might make certain decisions
HI SCYTHE! YOU ROCK! Literally my names inspired by you, your the reason i started a channel and im still working on actual videos so im just posting random stuff for now, ignore my content, and your contents amazing, thank you!
Just last week a childhood friend of mine died in a motorcycle accident. A car on the opposing side tried to pass someone, cutting a corner in the road and driving full on into my friend who just came back celebrating passing the job interview for her dream job. She was flung so far away, they didn’t find her whole body. She was 22. This is why we don’t get motorcycles anymore.
Ah yes, "there is one dumb car driver ->all car drivers are dumb -> all motorcycle drivers are smart -> motorcycle drivers are much better than car drivers and car drivers should be purged"
Oh God that's horrible! Her whole career, her whole future... Gone in an instant... Because people are impatient and reckless... I don't know if either of you believe(d) in God, but I will be praying for both of you...
The lady screaming at the mom talking to her baby would have had a right panic attack if she met me before I was 19 - I used to talk to myself outloud *a lot*.
@@HeidiGraham1982 I think my mandatory military service mostly drilled it out of me. It creeps up on me when I'm playing video games or working on something at my computer. I don't know why, put a big enough screen in front of me, and suddenly it's acceptable again 😅
I don’t just talk to myself… I just imagine myself as different characters interacting in a world that I made up :( I don’t think that makes it better though.
In the USA, most people graduate high school when they're 18. Some when they're 19, some when they're 17. But yeah, as soon as someone is 18, they are considered an adult, and most states don't even have a law that prevents people from kicking their kid out of the house while they're still in highschool
i graduated highschool when i was 18, and sure enough, not a month after my birthday, my dad attempted to kick me out-- though my mother stopped him, and settled on making me pay rent instead
@truelingoism Parents like that suck donkey balls! I'm glad your mom convinced your dad not to kick you out, but depending on how much rent they charged, if you had a job, and if you were in high school or college full time, that could suck almost as much.
I was 18 my senior year of school and my mom threatened to kick me out all the time. (Once because I got a B instead of an A, and if I didn't bring it up immediately she'd kick me out)
After my grandfather died, we randomly found a photo of him in his military uniform (He served in a field ambulance unit during WW2) standing next to a black bear. The bear and my grandpa were about the same height, and seemed on friendly terms. I have sooo many questions, but no way to get the answers. Grandpa lived a wild llife.
In my country we use sinfully to mean good or fun too, again mostly in the context of food that looks good but is usually high calorie. We say things like 'that cake looks positively sinful' or 'sinfully good' meaning something looks really good but it's still a little naughty. Sometimes you'll hear it used in non food contexts too.
Sinful kinda rocks as a compliment to an outfit. I saw a shirt online that says “Live Life Like A Book Texas Would Ban,” and I find that to be highly aspirational.
10:15 fun fact: the term "deadly" is a slang term with very positive connotations among aboriginal Australians. So "sinnful" becoming a new slang term to mean sexy/trendy/cool has potential.
I'm currently reading a book about emotionally immature adults. It explains most of the crazy wild stuff mentioned in this video. It doesn't condone it, it just explains the thinking process (or lack thereof) they are going through to be acting that way. Emotional maturity is a spectrum, and some people got stunted at childhood.
It's a book meant to help people who have grown up having the kind of people illustrated in the video as parents. Although, some portions of it could be very helpful to everyone... to help them deal with strangers behaving that way. -Adult children of emotionally immature parents, by Lindsay C. Gibson, PsyD Mickey Atkins made a great video about that 2 weeks ago
As a Millennial from Texas, not having a motorcycle because they don't have air conditioning is just self preservation. It is almost 100 degrees right now (38C) and feels like it is 103 degrees (39C). Not even Boomers ride motorcycles in this weather in Texas. They're in a bar.
Doesn't the wind cool you down? If you're wearing one of the cool, vented jackets at least, not leather. Where I'm from it can get that hot. Tbh I don't recall if the temperature got specifically that hot on the days when I was commuting on my bike (most likely, summer was really hot and putting on my Kevlar pants was a nightmare. Times I've checked the temperatures in summer since no longer having the bike, temperature got to 30°C in summer) but I would cool down on the road (unless I was late and stuck in traffic) and riding, my fingers would always get chilled through my gloves no matter how hot the weather was just from the wind.
@@curiousnerdkittehIf it's hot enough, no. Convection ovens cook food faster because they have a fan. Wind is usually helpful because the air it's lower than your internal temperature and cold you faster than just sitting in stationary air. Once the air is actually warmer than you, it's nothing but bad. That is to say ... technically the wind should help here, because the actual temp isn't over 100, so it'll be cooler than the rider. But with the sun adding heat as well, to rider and bike, and with the motor adding more heat to the bike and the surrounding air ... I'd recommend a car with AC.
It hit 110° over here recently, I actually saw the thermostat at 98° and went "ah, nice, it's cool today" Absolutely hate this heat, but at least the rain is bringing it back down to reasonable levels
In the US, blocking or impeding another person's movement/travel, is considered false imprisonment, and is akin to kidnapping. It's a pretty serious felony.
24:00 - aaaand as always: we have a word for this behavior in german: "Trash-tourism". That means you take your own trash and bring it to another peoples bin. It is a punishable act here in good old germany, bc you have to pay for the amount of times your bin has to be empteed and if you fill other peoples bins, they have to pay higher fees, while you dont have to.
0:54 This video actually shows two things really well. 1: An animal won't fight unless it thinks it has to, or it wants to. A bear that doesn't want to fight will choose anything else it can. And 2: The "freeze" response can be really effective. As long as the bear knows they haven't seen it, it stays frozen.
The way he went to make sure they were gone though! He was like "wtf why didn't the humans scream? Momma bear lied..." And yes, I know I'm personifying an animal, I'm autistic, I personify everything, for heckin sake I have an old soup ladle just chilling in my room because I'm afraid throwing it out will "hurt it's feelings" 🤦
@Kinokoumori Bruh the soup ladle thing is such a mood. I have a discarded piece of wood someone completely riddled with holes from a woodshop. My friend (also autistic) and I felt bad for it. It has been on my shelf for like, 7 years 😅
I will never understand the "what do you want? A participation trophy!" argument. Like the BOOMERS were the ones giving them to US! That shit was THEIR idea!
@@jpbaley2016 it was Boomers in my county at least. I'm a millennial born in 1990 & everyone involved in giving those trophies away were all my parents age.
The one with the road chalk reminded me of a story my mum told me once, so basically me and a bunch of the other kids who lived on the road were playing with chalk drawing on the road, one lady who also lived on the road decided to call the council about vandalism. so when the vandalism clean-up guys arrived they just saw a bunch of 5-10 year olds playing with chalk and ended up wetting the road so we could mix the chalk and water having more fun.
I have pretty much the opposite to that. We have yearly family gatherings/reunions on my husband’s side, so I bought a huge bucket of sidewalk chalks (and other stuff, like kites and bubble blowing kits) for all the kids. The dozen or so kids and few adults, me included, went absolutely wild and drew on all possible surfaces we could find or reach, including outer brick walls, patio flooring and even some plants. When the guests had left, my FIL came to me and asked what material it was, thinking what sort of solvent he had to use for the clean up. He was so relieved to find our rain would wipe it away; he had never seen outdoor chalks before and thought we used something similar to crayons, oil pastels or anything more permanent.. yet he had just watched the whole day our delight, even teaching numbers and alphabets to the youngest ones, without ever saying a word! He was perfectly content with cleaning it up later, he is just awesome that way.
When I was a kid my brothers and I were drawing with chalk at the park, and a person who worked there (idr if she was a ranger or maintenance or what) came up and said we were vandalizing and had to stop, and then washed away our drawings with a hose 😢 Our mom was mad and said that was stupid
46:53 this reminds me of when I was younger and my grandparents had something like this happen to them. It was at most 12-14 years ago, but what essentially happened is that my grandparents wanted to build a fence around a patch of land that wasn’t previously theirs, but eventually bought and wanted to connect to the rest of their property. Their neighbours, upset about this came over and complained that “you can’t do this, this patch of land is public property” etc etc. to which my grandparents replied that if they have any issues with it they can take it to the mayors office. They wouldn’t budge and started going off on “you can’t build here, i was the one that planted that tree there!” My uncle, who was there as well told him he’s free to take it back if he wants. And he actually did. He came with a chainsaw and cut it down and took it to his property. I was pretty young at the time, but still thought what he did was unhinged. Unfortunately the troubles with those neighbours didn’t stop there. They had also threw poisoned food over the fence which caused some of grandmas dogs to die. I hope they somehow get what they deserve because of that
Talking to babies also helps them to develop language skills. They obviously can't reply to questions but they get used to the sound of the words and the rhythm of the language.
I told my 4yo son that the baby can hear him talking, and if he keeps talking to the baby, it will know him by his voice when baby comes out, so he talks to baby all the time, says "good morning" "good night" "love you" and "stop kicking mum". He also kisses my belly for the baby to get kisses.
The guy who tapped her shoulder and said "What you're wearing is sinful!!!11" What, exactly, does he expect to happen? For her to fall to her knees and repent right there? Take her clothes off and be naked in the store? Like WHAT do you expect the response to be??
They expect shame. He wanted to make her uncomfortable, to lower eyes or even better... run from the store crying. He would've felt wonderful all day if he made her cry.
@@Tired_Night_Owl_in_the_Woods yep. I've had similar things happen and my go to is to embarrass them. Works especially good when I'm asked invasive medical questions because I'm trans. Trying to shame a chronically ill person who has zero issues discussing their intestinal issues? Enjoy the answer, cause I'll certainly enjoy their reaction.
omg that is SO funny - OP’s eyes just widen in fear as she collapses to the floor “my god, you’re right!! lord, forgive me for wearing this heathen clothing!” and she just starts ripping it to shreds 😂
It really is, especially using full sentence and talking to them like they're adults. It helps with their language development so so much. I did that with both of my girls and when they were toddlers I would always get comments from people just shocked that they could speak so well compared to other toddlers whose parents baby talk to them all the time.
My 9 year old complained today when I said “look at that solitary cloud!” She said “mom! I’m not in college! Stop using college words!” And I said, “why do you think you skipped a grade?!” Lmao I read to her every night until it got to the point she refused to sleep unless I read her a book (and her favorite was Where the Wild Things Are).
My mum, childminder and childminder’s kids all talked to me like a person and I got to nursery (at 2 or 3, I can’t remember) and they were surprised I talked properly with correct grammar. Which I find strange cuz my brother and I were both talking well by that age so I just always assumed that was how it was for (almost) everyone. I often looked after the little(r) kids at my childminder’s so hopefully maybe I helped their talking along by talking at them properly.
I've studied phycology and early child development. And I am a mom and have worked in child care. And yes that is absolutely true. They encourage you to talk to your baby and try to use the real words and not baby words unless it is genuinely a difficult to pronounce word and would be easier to dumb it down to a point that they mostly get it and they are understood and obviously correct it when they are older before they go to school. Like calling broccoli, trees when they are like 2 is fine
48:19 the funniest part about the flags is that the US flag is not supposed to touch the ground so it being dragged on the ground and torn up is probably the worst way for that to be done 💀
4:10 "Once in one time I slipped up and said black the n-word one time" It doesn't make sense as a sentence but it is decipherable enough to understand the meaning behind it.
The bible being read in the "shielding children from the rainbow satan" is the super abridged one that doesn't include all the stuff Jesus said about loving your neighbor, not casting the first stone, and praying humbly; that's why it's so thin.
Some of the things he gets credit for are from our parts of the bible (the golden rule, the neighbour thing, hardcore on charity, promise of eventual world peace…). A lot of people get fed “Gd was bad before Jesus” and told that the “Old Testament” is outdated, and don’t know what’s in it. It’s just as much of a mixed back, and since it’s just two verses (one in Leviticus, one in Deuteronomy), is arguably less homophobic (the epistles go way harder, and the Jesus books are a lot shorter).
As an old millennial, I get so annoyed about the participation trophies. The boomers who educated us were the ones who gave them to us, we didn't ask for them and didn't, in my case, even want them. Now they throw them up in our faces like we were the ones who made them up.
My conspiracy theory is that participation trophies were made by boomers/gen xers for two reasons. They were either tired of listening to their kids pout on the way home. They think they wasted their time and money on their kids activities and they wanted something to show for it.
And also I just don't understand, what's so bad about them. Like... you are simply trying to not disappoint your child... and so what? Does it make them think, that they can't lose at all and always will be getting something good, no matter how bad work they did? LOL, no, it's not how it works.
Exactly! And guess what? They didn't feel good! I would have been happier with nothing than that. It just felt like rubbing salt in to have what should be a symbol of achievement but is instead a reminder that you didn't place! It was destructive emotionally.
Talking to your baby is actually super important. Not only does it help them learn the language, it is also is very useful in the baby's cognitive development. Babies need you to talk to them in order to learn how to interact with others. Even if it is somehow wrong that lady needs to mind her own business.
I always talked to my Daughter when she was a Baby, and read to her. I didn’t give a rats patootie what ANYONE said! 😂😂 That woman bothering the Mom was absolutely INSUFFERABLE!
@@bigjalapeno7061probably the old woman had made up her mind that OP is a „crazy“ person and couldn’t handle being wrong so she mentally grasped at straws to prove to herself that she was right and the Op was creepy Not a good reason, it’s still stupid But some people just are that way
I have a story for this. One time I was doing some grocery shopping on the way back from university. I tend to stand in front of the shopping cart when I'm at the checkout line, so that I can reach inside the basket more easily to unload the groceries onto the conveyor. The older woman behind me in line took exception to this and shouted, "Move your cart in front!" and began using her cart as a battering ram to shove my cart into me as I was leaning over it. I didn't want to escalate, so I tried to ignore her. Talk about entitled, though. She would have saved zero time, and her causing a scene wasn't making the line move any faster.
I love that lady who was talking about the housing crisis. It's just good to know that people understand the actual problems in the world and who is truly responsible for them.
Random thought: Instead of mandatory military service we should just force people to work retail/customer service for a year. Just so that assholes understand how horrible they are to the poor store clerks.
@@elaexplorer, yeah, but having done both, it's a lot harder to seem reasonable justifying making other people suffer if you were a store clerk as opposed to a soldier. Suffering as a store clerk doesn't give you a sense of entitlement
The first story: Putting the clues together I’d wager the couple were hard of hearing. Boomers are reaching the ages at which hearing and eyesight go awry, and when people reach that age bracket they’re strangely opposed to asking for clarification / admitting they’re not sure what was fully said. It can lead to outstandingly mind-blowing confusion. 😂
My dad is a very early boomer, i.e. he's very old, and this is soooo accurate. I think they don't want to seem old by wearing hearing aids, and they don't want to just yell, "WHAT?!" like their parents and grandparents did, so they guess. I'm starting to lose my hearing, or it's at least getting worse, and I am totally fine with shouting, "What?! I couldn't hear you!" Or, "I'm sorry, what?" etc. I've been fighting chronic pain and a body that feels decrepit for most of my life, so I gave up my age shame/embarrassment decades ago and have embraced my granny persona. 😂
@@Just1Nora Yes! You nailed it; my mum told me how my granddad would get on the phone with his parents and they’d all just end up yelling: “Huh? When’re you gonna get hearing aids?!” “When am I what?!” “GETTING HEARING AIDS!” “DON’T YELL AT YOUR MOTHER!” “YOU ALWAYS COMPARE ME TO MY BROTHER!” “DON’T YOU *’OH BROTHER’* AT ME, YOU LITTLE…” And they would end up in an argument over something absolutely nonsensical that wasn’t based in reality at all. I am so sorry you have chronic pain 😞 It’s frickin horrible, and you’ve earned your right (and my full respect) for embracing your granny persona! Hell yeah!
Some people literally think they have plot armor. Like, they will do stunts professional stuntmen won’t do, go up to wild animals and treat them like domesticated pets or worse, go full Karen on gangsters, travel to dangerous countries like it’s a wealthy neighborhood, etc.
Yeah, I still can't get over the people who think the animals in the National parks are domesticated or tamed or something. Like they literally think because the place has the word "park" in its name it's the same as a theme park and you can walk up to a bison and take a selfie. We visited a Bison farm when I was about 12, it was a roadside attraction and the Bison were penned up. Standing next to the fence the bison's head was bigger than my whole body. I can't imagine standing next to a wild one.
My brother has that mentality sometimes. I once had to grab his arm before he blindly walked across the street. He told me that it’d be fine and “cars will stop for me” He legitimately said that.
29:50 Fun Fact: The technology that allows rotary phones to work is still supported by some telecom companies, and we have one in our house. It’s so cool to hear the old bell ring whenever a call comes through
A guy saw me wearing a mask recently and politely told me "they're lying to you about masks." I wish I had thought to tell him that I still wear masks just because I personally like to, which is true.
Here in Thailand, after the pandemic, a lot of women, including my wife, will still wear a mask sometimes. Because if they're only going to be an hour or so outside running errands, a mask is a lot quicker and easier than makeup.
Japan wore masks before the pandemic when they had a cold, other illness, or even as a fashion statement. Bet they think American tourists are even more annoying nowadays after the pandemic.
Funny, but from 2020 until 2023, I didn't get a single cold. And I used to get colds that would lead to sinus-infections every year before that. But, tell me again, Boomer, how "mAsKs DoN't WoRk."
@@John_Weiss yep, I haven't caught anything since 2020. Caught something at work in early 2020 (not Covid) and nothing since. Masks totally work. Like they aren't magic obviously, but they significantly reduce the risk.
I had a older woman tell me that wearing masks is "of the devil" and then started pointing around randomly while saying 666. Like, what? Trying not to be a vector for disease and get/pass illness to family members with poor health is demonic?
I've been at a restaurant before eating a chicken wrap when a boomer walked over and just... sat infront of me? And was like "can you leave? We need this table" They got dragged out by the hostess soon after because they had done this to at least 2 other people within the last 10 minutes.
Boomer: YOU JUST LOST A CUSTOMER! Hostess: You can't find a table, so we're doing just fine, and I'd rather lose one like you than the one's you harassed.
1:50 I am certain that the "maybe you should" means they cannot differentiate between "I do not work here" and "I'm on a break" as they make what they hear into "I do not work at the moment" and it has to do with them being really, really prejudiced; these folks simply assume that anyone who looks like they have to work for a living has to live where they are working... as in if I did work in an office I should spend 24/7 at my desk; so if they meet me in a grocery store or a restaurant I must work there because otherwise I should not be there in the first place
Regarding the parent talking to their infant, most speech and childhood development professionals encourage caregivers to talk to babies like that. It really helps form a foundation for when the child does begin talking. How can you start talking and saying things if you don't know what the words for things are?
A weird thing I’ve realized about boomers like this is that they’re weirdly stuck in their past. I still have old relatives spouting ideals from the Red Scare, and the USSR. They just fail to educate themselves about the modern world
the cold war did such a number on boomers, old people in my country literally blame america for everything, from high prices to people taking a dump into the garbage chute
It goes beyond just ideals, i know several people who are 50+ that are completely convinced that you can get a 2 story house with a single income, "if you just tried hard enough" one time out of sheer curiosity i asked them if they had seen housing prices recently, they told me no, and that they havent even had to pay basic electric and water because or some kind of savings BS
The weirdest part is now they're pro Russia and pro China because Trump is. Yet they're paranoid about anything even slightly socialist. They think democracy is a bad thing and are offended by anything invented after 1955. They also believe all political and scientific progress stopped in the 1980's. I'm gen-x and feel everything is obsolete before it's even invented. Everything is progressing far too slowly. EV's should have been around decades ago. And what's taking robots so damned long. We were promised colonies on mars and day trips to the moon by now. We've got the internet, but it's getting boring now and full of ads trying to sell us shit we don't want or need. The world is looking more like blade runner and less like star trek every day.
I don't have kids, and I don't want them. But if I had them, I would absolutely talk to them in the grocery store and save up something to leave them when I'm gone. Some people just thrive on misery. Additionally, as an elder millennial...it was Boomers telling us to "just go to college" and "get a degree in whatever you want, you'll be able to get whatever job you want!" So, yeahhhhhhh
I am also childfree and dislike most kids because my nerves are quite thin and I can't take their fuss. I am also impatient. And yet, I seem to be more polite and considerate to children simply because I treat them like the person they are. I don't understand how incredibly rude people are to children simply because they are considerably younger than them. Kids DO understand. I remember how often I was treated as an imbecile just because I was like 5yo. I felt so angry and helpless and frustrated. I don't want children to feel like this. So I treat them as I would have liked to be treated at that age.
44:38 I used to work tech support for an ISP and ill never forget when on old lady complaining about her internet wasn't working. Turns out the apartment building was ON FIRE!!! Another one cut their cables when i asked them to unplug and replug in the power for their modem (they said it wouldn't unplug)
26:33 the worst part about this is, it will likely lead the alligator to be killed because a stupid person, as if gators aren't already getting killed enough because people are scared of them... It really sucks because no one will be there to say hey don't kill it the person was stupid, it just sucks. If there are gators, don't go into the water, if you need to retrieve something check for them first, splashing a bit should either scare them or tell you if they are there, but use a stick not your hand obviously
Arc that story with the person yelling at the mother talking to her kid is so upsetting especially since even if the mother was undergoing some sort of hallucination or something else similar, yelling at her and telling her she’s a freak is NOT the proper response as it’s not going to help at all. If she genuinely felt like the mother was a danger of some kind and needed help, she should have talked to an employee so they can try to help.
"I'm a mid-40s transwoman in the midwest, so there are always interesting things happrning around me". Damn, that phrasing is soooo good. 😅 And she rocks her transition, or the boomer would have been less upset about the dress, and more about... everything else. 😊

Kids should never recieve a punishment thats even harsher than what we would do to criminals. People who do actual crime, are also punished by the severity of the crime. And it never includes being punched. No judges go, break his nose! as a sentence. So why on earth do so many boomers still think violence is the right answer to kids misbehaving. Even when kids do something thats not even illegal, like swearing. Do you punch adults for swearing? Its messed up to spank an adult against their will. Its even more messed up you would do it to a child, let alone your own.
THANK YOU. Hitting, spanking, or abusing a CHILD, will not get them to behave. Infact, it may get them to do the opposite behind their parents back and be afraid of them. That's how people end up old and alone in retirement homes.
Right? And it's always sent a weird message to me. What's the point in teaching children that "if you mess up in any way, you deserve physical harm" ? In the worst cases that mindset won't go away as they get older
Unfortunately in the US, it's not uncommon for the cops to do that, or worse, during an arrest. Particularly if the person belongs to a marginalized group.
6:30 my parents sadly are the kind of people who believe "these dumb kids wouldnt be so troublesome if someone just spanked or beat them more often" and probably would have been fine with this if the teacher hadnt bloodied the kid's nose. "Spare the rod, spoil the child" and "Bruises are okay, blood is too far" and all.
I was beat as a child and ummm… didn’t help, just traumatized me? Why do people think that hurting people (especially children) is character building??
@Spiderscanthurtme in my family's case, "Because the Bible Tells Me So". Nothing more. Their primary complaint about my brother and SIL is "you don't hit your kids enough". That's a direct quote. There's a lot of reasons we don't talk, but the only one they recognize is because I don't follow their religion properly - they severed contact even before learning I was an atheist, just because I wasn't following their faith strictly enough.
I have a summer job at a retirement home, i work in the section with the most disabled residents, most are stuck in wheelchairs and can't talk. It really makes you feel worried about aging.
But most people don't end up in a care home so you're just seeing the worst, not the many people who lead fulfilling lives into their 80s. And considering the boomers were exposed to a ton of lead in their lifetimes, they're probably going to age worse than the younger generations that didn't have leaded gas, leaded paint, and leaded glassware.

I am 1000% going to adopt "sinful" into my vocabulary in this way now. I think it may unironically help my religious trauma, plus i love language and learning or even inventing slang (sometimes that can help, being neurospicy and not always remembering or having the right/actual word)!
There are two examples of participation trophies I endorse: One is for young kids to feel included, to encourage them to keep playing even if they lose. The other is in high level competition, where even qualifying is considered an impressive feat, like the Olympics. Even if someone doesn't place on the podium, they still competed in the goddamn Olympics!
One I would add where participation itself could be an achievement. For example i used to do Toastmasters (club for learning public speaking) some people showed up to brush up on skills, others had major social anxiety. Twice a year they had competitions and they gave participation certificates because for some people the act of participation could represent a massive achievement. And o think thst was really good.
Talking to your small children helps their vocab develop. My mom talked a lot of bs to me when I was young and a lot of my teachers complimented my choice of words in essays because I knew a lot of words my peers didn't. For the love of god, talk to your children so they don't end up primitive.

Kids were terrified by him back then, and we were as well. He was aggressive and snapped often. One time he called one student up to the blackboard (those heavy, thick ones from back in the old days) and asked him to solve a equation. Student was really flustered and afraid and couldn't do it. So he grabbed his head and pushed it against the blackboard. Different times, I guess. He wasn't fired, despite all the parents protesting.

This might also explain boomers seeming a bit emotionally stunted IMO.
My dad is a boomer too
But there was lots of research (that my parents used when we were growing up in the 60s) appearing when early boomers were young adults to show that interacting with children and providing them with a stimulating environment is important to their development.
Not gonna lie, this makes so much sense to me that this would be a thing they believed. My uncles that are boomers have said my grandma never baby talked to them/the younger siblings, or even just adult voice talked to them. That explains why

We had something similar here in Germany.
Yes
My grandma talked to me and my cousin with a baby-talk voice until we were 16 and 17, respectively. My cousin got fed up with it and yelled at her, and she hasn't done it since except as accidental spill-over after talking to my cousin's toddlers.
Absolutely! This is how children learn and develop.

Also as an autistic person myself, if someone has screamed at me good morning after I didn't reply I would immediately be overwhelmed/scared and less likely to respond.
4:35 Agree. And age doesn't come into it. This could've happened to anyone old enough to be a teacher.

28:44 - "No one is expecting a participation trophy, wherever that stereotype comes from to begin with" - It comes from the mid-90s when Millennials were children and every single competition we had gave participation trophies to everyone on both teams. The parents wanted the trophies

The group had been founded three or so months before and we were invited to participate in a competition with other teams from other villages. We hadn't trained for this or anything, but for some reason our team leader decided that we should go. We quite predictably got last place, with almost no points. But we still got a participation trophy that we all hated, because it was quite embarracing and we actually had to go on stage and receive it. We didn't participate the next year.

Chappell says his client was not warned.”
He got a settlement, but it was not disclosed how much.
It's also possible it was his insurance pressing the suit rather than the man himself. If they can make the golf course pay his medical bills, they won't have to.

The "millenials expect a participation trophy" has always been wild to me cuz, bruh, we didn't expect to get them as kids. *You* were the ones who decided we needed to have them in the first place.
Yep, it was _the Boomer parents_ of the Millennials who demanded participation trophies. Children ususally don't have a say in those things.
Blah. I didn't expect anything aside from photos and cool memories. At the most, those participation awards ended up in scrapbooks; most ended up getting tossed.
Exactly. It's not like we were asking for them at 6 years old. It's cool the first time, well until you figure out it's a "You tried" award.

I might consider it as a primary vehicle to save gas money...if I could afford health insurance 😅
Nevermind we can't afford the medical bills when a blind deaf boomer hits us on one.

I also suspect a bit of racism involved when they assume who works there.
BASED

I’ve heard that the volume is a safety measure to help people know they are there
Edit: to clarify, I have been told this by people who ride, I do not know how true it is but it is important to know that at least those riding believe it to be a safety feature so as a driver you have to be aware of why they might make certain decisions

@@curiousnerdkitteh Boomers don't really wear vented jackets.
@@curiousnerdkittehIf it's hot enough, no. Convection ovens cook food faster because they have a fan.

Yeah. When my brother was a baby, I used to "interview" him with a little note book I had, and just kinda wrote down the noises he made.

For the story with the talking to babies, I thought literally everyone did that? It's to help encourage/teach them to speak and learn your language.
Stop using college words!” And I said, “why do you think you skipped a grade?!”
Lmao
I read to her every night until it got to the point she refused to sleep unless I read her a book (and her favorite was Where the Wild Things Are).

As an old millennial, I get so annoyed about the participation trophies. The boomers who educated us were the ones who gave them to us, we didn't ask for them and didn't, in my case, even want them. Now they throw them up in our faces like we were the ones who made them up.
Ive never seen a participation trohy in my short life, at much you would get a candy, so it isn't even an experience that everyone had
I hated participation trophies, to me they said "You tried and failed, here's a reminder!"
46:17 They were paid to build a fence and they’re not going to let anyone stop them, lol.
Talking to your baby is actually super important. Not only does it help them learn the language, it is also is very useful in the baby's cognitive development.

Instead of mandatory military service we should just force people to work retail/customer service for a year. Just so that assholes understand how horrible they are to the poor store clerks.

Wholeheartedly agree. Put people in the shops and restaurants and see the change soon.
Just like jury duty.
"Oh, honey, what's this?"
"I think it's a dog"
"Sounds about right"
My dad is a very early boomer, i.e. he's very old, and this is soooo accurate. 😂

We visited a Bison farm when I was about 12, it was a roadside attraction and the Bison were penned up. Standing next to the fence the bison's head was bigger than my whole body. 1:50 I am certain that the "maybe you should" means they cannot differentiate between "I do not work here" and "I'm on a break" as they make what they hear into "I do not work at the moment"
and it has to do with them being really, really prejudiced; these folks simply assume that anyone who looks like they have to work for a living has to live where they are working... as in if I did work in an office I should spend 24/7 at my desk; so if they meet me in a grocery store or a restaurant I must work there because otherwise I should not be there in the first place

Cold war propaganda too good. 😭
The weirdest part is now they're pro Russia and pro China because Trump is. Yet they're paranoid about anything even slightly socialist. They think democracy is a bad thing and are offended by anything invented after 1955. They also believe all political and scientific progress stopped in the 1980's. I don't have kids, and I don't want them. But if I had them, I would absolutely talk to them in the grocery store and save up something to leave them when I'm gone. Some people just thrive on misery. The other is in high level competition, where even qualifying is considered an impressive feat, like the Olympics. Even if someone doesn't place on the podium, they still competed in the goddamn Olympics!
