My moms a banker, and she bought a box of pennies, and I found 4 Indian heads, a few older Canadian, a few steels, several dollars of Wheaties and a MERC! Talk about starting the new year off right!!
Your videos inspired me many years ago to buy and sell coin collections!! Last week I made two purchases with a 1000€ profit. I’m so thankful for your advices! Greetings from Germany
I'll ask the same question several others have asked:. How do you find the collections? If I wanted to get started in this, how do I find sellers? Also, if you're buying at a yard sale or something, and they want to just get rid of it, how do you give them a fair price? Do you let them set the price it do you make an offer? Thanks for the info! Happy New year!!
Years of building a network and telling everyone I know to refer me when they hear about someone selling their collection. Printing business cards is a good first step. At garage sales, if there is a stated price, I pay it or haggle. If they bring it out for me (meaning they weren't prepared to sell it), I give them a fair price after looking through it
In my experience the finding an buying the coins or collections is the easy part. My problem is finding where to sell them for a decent profit without hitting the spot trolls or craig's list mentality guys...
Great information on buying a collection! Could you also do a video on how you sell coins once you’ve bought a collection? Like are you selling locally, selling on eBay, or what avenues do you sell the coins?

@Trident Stacking You should set dates for when you want to buy a bit of silver. I have an uncle who has been been buying an ounce of silver monthly for about 4 years. He’s currently at about 60 ounces. That’s like $30 a month. Start collecting when the price is low.
Silverpicker, New sub to your channel but not a new viewer. Like the videos. Keep up the great work. Have you had times where it was frustrating negotiating with prospective deals? Are yard sale/estate sales easier to secure?
Thanks so much for subbing! Absolutely. I have walked away from dozens of deals. "I can't pay you $500 for a circulated common date Morgan dollar. No, that's not the one you saw on Pawn Stars." Every deal (i.e. every person) you work on will be different. Some are good, some are frustrating
Hey Silverpicker, great video! I was wondering how you come across collections like this. I would love to buy more coins from people but I don't know how to go about advertising and letting people know that I would buy their collections. (Other than through RUclips)

Hi SP, as you know, I’ve been working on organizing my huge collection for nearly a year now, separating like you just did, and putting in spreadsheets. I’ve pulled and gave away at least 5K wheat cents that I didn’t think were sellable quality, I rolled and took to the bank another $5K face value in coins. I still have another couple months worth of work left in the organizing step before I’m ready to try and sell my collection. My hope was to sell entire coin and currency collection as a whole. After talking to you previously on this, I realize I will most likely have to separate and sell Coins as one collection and Currency as another collection. So after seeing this video, and realizing it was mostly precious metal coins you purchased, my questions are more towards the “other” coins. So how as a holder of both clad and precious metal coins do I find a buyer that doesn’t “Cherry-pick” me? I’m hoping all my precious metal coins will attract buyers and I can sell everything together, kind of a take it all, or don’t take anything. Do you think buyers, especially like you, who are going to re-sell most of it, will find value in the work that’s been done to help make it re-sellable? What I mean there is, it’s not just a truckload of raw items you have to search, sort, separate, research, and put in spreadsheets. All that work has or is being done. When I’m ready to sell, there are already over 25K (circulated) coins in 2X2 flips, separated by types in boxes, further separated by date and mint mark, with dividers, and all in spreadsheets. 95% of all the UNC coins are still in Govt, or bank packaging, but sorted, organized and in spreadsheets. All circulated (and some UNC) currency is in individual sleeves or top loaders, the BEP packs are bubble wrapped, and each note is listed in spreadsheets as well. So will all this work help me get to my goal of finding a buyer, and getting a fair price, and not be left with a bowl full of Cherry Pitts? What further advice could you offer towards my prepping to find buyers that both sides feel happy in the deal?
Hey Snoopy! It's definitely a conundrum, but it's something that I talk a lot about in my upcoming video this week. I have some thoughts on it that we can discuss in the discord. Shoot me a DM on there to remind me. Let's just say that you have good problems lol
Gold is almost never alloyed with anything but copper for coins. Copper make the coins more durable while keeping the gold color. Silver is also alloyed with gold, this happens with pioneer and ancient coins. Some older roman coins used alloy of silver and gold called electrum. BUT If it's magnetic, the coin is iron or steel that is gold plated.
Great Video Silverpicker. I don't do Instagram and therefore was wondering if there is an alternative way to reach out you regarding coin purchase from this lot. Thanks
What is the difference between the stime it takes to sell a popular American silver coin such as a Morgan versus a respected but less popular foreign bullion coin (eg. Mexican Gold pesos)?
Much, much longer. I can sell Morgans really easily. Usually what happens with the foreign coins is that someone comes along every so often and wants to buy everything, but that might only be once or twice a year
@@Silverpicker That's a shame really. In my opinion Morgan dollars are some of the most overrated coins in American numismatics. Of course there are some nice scarcities and rarities here and there but overall he population of common date coins across VF - Au condition is quite high for a coin series its age and there are much scarcer series out there ( Standing Liberty Quarters for example which has some popularity still do not match the mania for Morgans).
