Part of being a professional furniture artist is knowing how to achieve the best look for the piece.... better than armchair flippers think they do. This is lovely in a very understated way.
Kacha: This piece needs to be shown to all those who criticize the art involved in embellishing furniture. Be able to imagining a better look and a new life for an uncared piece requires a true artist who can see beyond and who can give it a new beginning instead of covering it again with more varnish. Carlos you did an awesome job presenting the work and care it takes by your editing and beautiful music. I am also foreign and know the hard work and dedication it takes to make it here. I love what you did with this piece. One of my all time favourites. The only thing is I am sad about losing the internal pigeon holes. I feel like some of its original character and history has been lost.
I have a secretary desk very similar to this one. It still has the pigeon holes. And it really diminishes the utility of the piece. As I watched this I was thinking “that’s what I need to do”! I just tend to cram thing all over the place. It’s also very, very small. My piece has chipped veneer, so it’s already not in the best shape 🤷🏻♀️
I agree, I miss the pigeon holes to, because they come in so handy for storage of envelopes, stamps and so forth. Still, a very cute piece this little secretary!
I want , WANT this desk!!! the epitome of restrained elegance....perfect!!!! the refined feminine lines of the piece are highlighted beautifully, no overpowering color or too much "makeup", perfect. love it want it....🥰
That was epic Kacha! I waited till my husband made it home safely in a snow storm to relax and enjoy your video. It was like watching an opera where the sad, decrepit and forgotten desk (which I feel has its own charm) is transformed into a pale princess along with asmr and beautiful music! The value you imbue to each piece is with your touch and attention to detail.

When I saw this piece I thought what a lot of people think about your work: no! How can you paint such a lovely piece! But that is not who you are and that is not why I watch you. I have to say this was an all around lovely video. The bringing back to life such lovely piece in such a lovely and simple way, that showcase you and the piece itself in such a lovely setting and with such wonderful music like: see magic happen! My daughter has one of these kind of desks and I’m showing her this video!

I like that we can still see the wood grain. The transfers are a nice touch that go well with the white stain. I am wondering why you didn’t keep the handy drawers and cubbyholes on the inside, though.

A truly incredible transformation! When I saw the old desk, I wondered why you were stripping it because it looked way too damaged. But that is your genius. You can see beauty under all the damage and paint. This old secretary turned out gorgeous with just the paint wash, simple transfers, and of course, a touch of gold! One question. What was the wood this desk was made from?
Just think,if one transformed one's spirit with the same care as this old piece is given what could be. This is the way I see a lot of these pieces you do. Doing them transforms life,doesn't it? Its really beautifull. Even though I would have left the inner drawers, they give the piece a personality.

I have a maple desk like that one. It belonged to my grandparents and was finished in Amber shellac so it was fairly easy to strip.
