Im thankfully with this guy, I was able to fix my hammer drill, one of the pieces was Broken, I replaced it and I didn’t have to buy a new one, thank you so much
Just wanted to say a huge thank you. stumbled on this video by accident this morning as i was just having a look through RUclips and I can’t express how thankful I am because my Dewalt SDS drill started playing up a couple of days ago and had similar issues as mentioned in the video with it being dry, so I took it all apart, just in time as was showning slight signs of wear so added in grease and everything seems to work like a dream. Although when I first reassembled back together, hadn’t noticed that the little electrical clip had come loose, so when I screwed everything back together and tried it, it didn’t work at all. 🤦♂️so then had to take everything apart again, and suddenly noticed that the electrical clip had come apart. just one for the future for anybody else trying this. Many thanks for the video. 👍
I definitely did. Well I've not fully tested it, but confident it will be fine. 👍 You don't happen to have one on the dewalt jigsaw DCS570 do you? as mine is not working for over a year, had to buy a second, but still have the old. I did try to take it apart and have a look, but couldn't fix it.?? Be really helpful. Let me know if you have one on it or planning a video 🙂
Thanks for posting these vids. Usually work on Paslode nailers but my son brought one of these Dewalts home from work and asked me to try to repair. Couldn’t have done it without you👍
Thanks for sharing this it’s worked a treat. Piston on my was bone dry and lightly scored but I fibre buffed the piston cleaned re greased and the drill is flying now.
I've got an older 20 Volt nicd version, it was a cast off and ideal for my usage, I'm inspired to give it a service now as its probably similar inside👍
When he started disassembling and throwing screws around, I thought this guy is messy and unprofessional. Wow, he really knows his stuff and very sufficient. 👍
Love the videos, gave me the confidence to take mine apart and fix it.. one thing I have found is my chisel bit doesn’t stay straight when chasing out, is this just a chuck change or the spindle?
Very helpful video just followed the instructions and done mine only problem is I seem to have done something to it as it only has rotary hammer on every function any ideas where I've gone wrong
Hi Dean, thank you for the video. I'm trying to reassemble my drill after making some repairs, but there is a big problem. I can't compress the largest internal spring enough... It seems impossible. If you have any tips I would really appreciate it.
I am a tool repairman in Canada, and the brands i see the most are the Makita and Metabo hpt, they are frequently brought in. This is why they are not doing well in sales in North America
I noticed that you put on a small spacer on the ball pin before inserting it. There doesn't seem to be one of these spacers on the parts list. Have you a number for it? Great video by the way. This man knows his stuff.
Very helpful, I noticed you didn't use graphene grease, it's cheaper and DeWalt prefers it, probably because it means you have to replace the drills more often or fix them, Your class, would love to buy you a pint, if I find myself in Donegal I want to get the first round in for ya, then I can disappear, my grandad was from Galway, please keep on making these videos,
Hi Dean thanks for the video . I need to change the spindle on this drill as looks like the 2 locating pins have sheared off with only the ball bearing keeping sds bit in place . Is it difficult to do ?
Hi Dean love your channel keep it up one question dewalt dch273 type 2 brushless after striping and regreasing the piston and on further inspection have noticed the electric motor full of grease, coming out of vents top and bottom 4 screws hold motor together is it possibly to seperate it for clean out it’s all working fine but it’s going to be a problem later suspect somebody filled casing up wit to much grease any help would be much appreciated Thanks Alan Roker Guildford surrey 1:29
Take outbthe brushes, take out the 4 bolts and the motor should come apart. Some kerosene and a paint brush will clean it up like new again. Just make sure the grease has not come from the top armature bearing.
And have you ever come across these with a symptom like it is hammering too hard really loud hammering and if you have what did you find was the problem
Why 2 types of grease, and what is the name of the 2 types of grease? I’m going to have to this same exact repair myself, nobody around me that does this kind of work. Thanks.
@@derektierney1314 I'm sure some of the components may be china sourced but that's no surprise these days, most of my stuff is hand me downs so I don't have a choice but DeWalt counts for most of mine, got battery SDS, battery grinder and impact driver as well as mains circular saw, the rest is Makita, not keen on Milwaukee but still got an old Bosch drill, with my usage they'll do me years.

Why are my pistons differently manufactured? The original is smooth on the outside and the new one has machined grooves going up and down on the outside, same part number, but different design.
I know you're a busy guy, but with that much knowledge, you must have some valuable consumer opinions. Would be cool to see a buyer's guide for reliable gear. Today videos in that format are made by influencer-seller type, which isn't particularly helpful and they only talk about new, recently released stuff that wasn't around for long enough to really evaluate it. I for one would be interested in a trusty SDS drill that will last. There is a bunch of types of jobs that people have for them, professional or not, so I guess it wouldn't be just one model from the past but an opportunity to make a short list of recommendations.

Hello how I can to contact you ? I have the same problem with my drill … I want to sent you a video with him
Fixed mine by greasing the piston and hammer. Your video saved the SDS! Thanks!
Had one of mine apart yesterday and greased it - from my experience their very reliable

The grease seems to be a big secret lol.
Well done my man but if only parts were that fast to get.

I've always used Bosch professional & I've never had any problems from them, great vid 👍
I've got the older one with nicd batteries, still goes well, it's personal choice as to brand, depends on your usage.

I'd ask him on his Instagram but he said he orders them from 3 different suppliers if I remember right

dewalt every time. dewalt can at least be fixed and last twice as long

What grease is used as lubrication ?
Hi, what grease you use?
True . Built to fail and be replaced. Their double battery mitre saw is a joke . Just blows motor after motor
Hello, what types of grease do you use for this type of drill?
I'm as using bosch hammer grease
thanks @@deandohertygreaser
Why are my pistons differently manufactured? The original is smooth on the outside and the new one has machined grooves going up and down on the outside, same part number, but different design.
They where modified a few years ago and improve the longevity, the grooves allow grease to move into the hammer pipe and keep the piston lubricated
