This woman just always seem to speak from the heart, to the heart. Her thoughts on work and the creative process are so truthful and I love to listen and *remember*.
I have been searching most of my adult life for a role model and about a year ago I found Liz. I can listen to her everyday all day long. She’s so intelligent, brave, kind, and lives a full life of love. Thanks for all you do Liz and thanks for interviewing her Lewis. You did a great job.
''Don't make yourself smaller to make other people to feel better about themselves.'' I repeated this part maybe for 10 times. It's one of the most important thing that should lead us to success and self-esteem. Thank You Lewis for the interview with this great woman.
Lewis Howes but she doesn't like the goat? Oh Lewis it would be so amazing if you got Tom Brady on your show! He is such an inspiration and seems spiritual as well.
As a writer myself, I truly love how she eloquently put it! I do not want to be competitive with anyone but myself. Each and everyone is given a gift/talent and there is no one like another. Enjoy your life and what God has called you to do. Thank you Lewis,
Thank you for asking. Your question made me review all again! Hard to rank! I am between 1) What do you most excited about life right now? and 2)absolute value! But I can easily say that this interview inspired me a lot . I've already STOLEN many ideas that I can write to my blog this week (:
Great interview. As a hummingbird I really appreciate having that approach to life explained and validated. And she's absolutely right about the lipstick. Keep interviewing folks like Liz and Alanis. They bring so much insight and joy to my life.
I LOVED 'Committed' !!! It was a very different kind of book from E,P,L. and probably not as accessible to the masses. But I am soooo grateful for it. I learned a lot from reading it. It's the kind of book I will go back and read again ... and probably because I am deeply interested in our Sociology. I don't even understand people NOT wanting to know the social origins of things. THANK YOU LIZ!!!
I wish Liz had been around when I first had a teenage crisis of faith. "Give me a SIGN!" I have real trouble producing lists like 3 things you are grateful about. I resolve to try harder at this. Great podcast!
Gosh, thank you, @Lewis, for being so persistent and emailing Liz for a year to make this interview happen! I read her books and they left me in an owe.. I often randomly recall her concepts of creativity when I'm going about my day.. Sometimes she describes it in such an abstract way but it all makes so much sense in the end.. Liz is so down-to-earth, enlightened and so full of life and energy. Love her genuine laugh.. I also like how she interacts with other people in the room and looks at them when laughing at her or your jokes.. She is also very sweet to let you go off the track a bit and talk about yourself instead of just interviewing HER.. I actually love how YOU open up in this video and share even more of your own story and your family background.. I can incredibly relate to not feeling like I had real friends in school when growing up.. But finally being 30 years old now, living abroad in my dream city and being surrounded by successful diverse people from various backgrounds and of different nationalities I'm able to build the friendships I always wanted and also learned how to be a great friend to them myself..
Incredible - I have laughed, cried, this is truly one of the best interviews I have ever had the good fortune of watching - thank you to you both Liz and Lewis for sharing your beautiful and inspiring selves with the world!!
I completely agree on listening to that small voice that is saying "Hey, look over here...this might be cool..." I am one of those people who could never find that number one passion. Even as I was in grad school, working on my PhD in psychology, learning how to teach and do research, I kept thinking to myself, "Is this really what I want to do?" I ended up following a little voice inside me that said "Take a quarter off, go back home, and see what's there for you." At 27 years old, it was this biggest period of soul searching in my life! I decided to try and teach kickboxing. When I got certified as a group fitness instructor, I got hired as a bootcamp instructor at a small studio that was desperate for female instructors. They asked me if I would consider becoming a certified personal trainer because they had an overflow of clients. I said, "Sure." Meanwhile, I am working on a personal growth and self development blog. I thought, "Why not write about health and fitness?" That led to... why not try video blogging.. then, why not create online programs? (My biggest goal for this year is to create 2!) All this to say that, amidst the fear, the uncertainty, and many failures (which I have not included here), I continue to find and refine what my passion is. I get more and more excited about the projects I am taking on, which tells me that I am on the right path. AND I become less and less attracted to romantic entanglements (so on Point E.G.! ;) lol). Thank you Liz and Lewis for an amazing conversation!
I am at a similar point in my life right now, at the PhD stage lol... Reading your post, I am now of course wondering: Did you finish your PhD? Did it matter to you whether you did or not? Thank you!
You know, Lewis. What I'm most grateful for right now is having found your podcast! I mean it! It's changing my life. I loved Elizabeth!!! Thank you so much.
it’s so delightful listening to her talk!! it’s like listening to an audio book but she’s just speaking her truth. if you interview her again i totally wouldn’t mind :)
Great interview, and I loved this quote: 06:47 [Liz Gilbert on personal ambition and artistry vs competition]: “My friend Sarah Jones, who’s a performance artist who’s won Tony awards - she’s fantastic - she has a beautiful way of expressing this. She said that at the beginning of any creative endeavor, ‘There’s a highway that I have to be on’ - these are her words, not mine; I’m paraphrasing - she said, ‘There’s a highway that I have to be on, to do this work. And, along that highway there’s any number of detours. And any time I find myself asking questions such as, am I going to be able to win a Tony with this, is my agent going to be able to sell this, are people going to want this, is the audience going to respond to this, is this the right kind of work, is this what the market is calling for’ - she said, ‘all of those questions are detours off the highway that I need to be on. And any of those questions that I start asking myself at the beginning of a creative journey is going to take me right off that highway and into the same neighbourhood every time - and that’s a ghetto where they’re going to take the hubcaps off my car, beat me and leave me for dead. Because it’s going to leave me asking the wrong questions. “‘The only question [that I really need to ask] at the beginning of this creative endeavour is: Does the thought of making this illuminate me, ignite me, make me feel like I can’t wait to get up in the morning, and give meaning to a life that is often very difficult? If the answer is *yes,* then I’m on the right road.’”
For some reason, I couldn't stop crying while watching this. The positivity and empathy that radiates from Liz (and Lewis) inspires me to continue following my curiosities and meeting more wonderful people in this world
I just listened to your interview with Liz Gilbert & it truly resonated with me. She is absolutely right about being in tune with signs or hints of something that could be your passion to be of service to others. I just recently have been receiving my "signs" & they keep coming! Thank you!
Lewis, your spirit is so beautiful. I've been a fan of Elizabeth Gilbert, but I just started watching you and listening to your podcast and I'm so glad I do. Thank you.
I am watching this video in 2020. It's just so rich. Thank you for having such profound conversations. Liz's description of absolute value as home blew me away. That's exactly what I need to do for my creative journey. And for talking about your struggles in life and to where you have come to, gives me new hope. :) Thank you Lewis
I loved how much interaction between you two there is here. LOVE LOVE LOVE the conversation towards the end, and your whole idea behind the school of greatness. You're both so inspiring. Thank you.

Such perfect imagery. Thank you Liz. I'm definitely living a life of following my curiosity, most definitely in the midst of a satisfying, dizzying and sometimes downright scary improvised patchwork quilt.

This was awesome. I love LG, follow her path, --inspiring. Lewis I didn't know of you before, your spirit, heart and intention were evident, and makes me want to 2B the best I can be.... This is where the action is.... =)
Makes me want to "Eat, Pray, :Love," and tear off, if I ever had one, my own "mask of masculinity" and connect with others in life in more loving, caring, forgiving and serving ways. Thank you both, having wrestled with your own demons for the sake, the conviction and the commitment to attain personal success and veritable levels of personal mastery in life, to show "Us" what it means to "tear the mask off," to "let down the guard a little bit," and "connect" with each other and your audience in life enhancing, blessing and uplifting ways. We're ALL imperfect. But your mutual witness and sharing shows the incredible of value of continually striving to grow and learn in spite of our weaknesses and to learn, through much sought after study and mentorship, a pathway towards continual personal growth and sharing in it with others in which (worldly) success, never an end in itself, is just a stepping stone along the way, as personal defeat and failure, neither of the "Absolute Values" of which which should take us "from" our core and staying focused on the "Zero," as I suppose Elizabeth would put it, that is, upon the "means" itself, ie, ouirselves without which no further growth or unfolding can occur. It's all about the journey and the process NOT the results along the way. Thank You Two. You're the best! (ed howe-without the "s")
Liz's Definition of fear is the best one I have ever heard I'm my life. Genius
I can’t explain this properly, but she is so youthful and vibrant. Every time she speaks I feel like I become younger and healthier. 🤷♀️💭

I listened to this on a recent flight. Such a fabulous interview. Thank you for sharing!!!
Such perfect imagery. Thank you Liz. I'm definitely living a life of following my curiosity, most definitely in the midst of a satisfying, dizzying and sometimes downright scary improvised patchwork quilt.
Great interview! Lovely interaction between Lewis and Liz.

Thank you for this interview! Between this and Carrie Ann Moss, my heart is buzzing.
Liz, your last piece is huge.....I lived it......
Your channel is AWESOME
