The subtle symbolism of Micah not being in this fight and just the OG Van Der Linde gange ending a a battle that has been going on for decades in just few minutes. Showing the true power of this gang without any disturbances.
I think there was a bit of evidence of Micah not being a monster, because when Abigail found out that Jack was missing, he was all ready to protect the camp and actually caring for the kid. Yeah, instead of the cliche high noon showdown on the main street of some backwater town. This takes place in the middle of the night and in front of a luxury plantation house. Different setting but has the same impact.
While Jack ate spaghetti and learned to say horse and slipper in Italian, dutch, hosea, arthur, john, charles, javier, bill and lenny murdered an entire family and destroyed their legacy
She wasn't crying because of her house being burnt down and her family being killed, no, she was crying cause she wanted to finish the goddamned cribbage game
They’re burning down a house, it’s a dramatic moment and suddenly Hosea busts out one of the best one liners in the game. Kinda shocking and immersion breaking, but I don’t care because it’s just funny
I feel like in this mission we saw a pure version of everyone in the gang. Especially Dutch without Micah’s lies. A pure, real Dutch. Not the manipulative madman. The charismatic, unstoppable leader with a gang of loyal brothers. Hosea, Dutch, Arthur, and John walking together.
@@tidester3655 Dutch didn't change, his real personality just wasn't keep in check due to Hosea not being there anymore to be the one to defuse it before it gets worse, Micah made Dutch's real personality flourish, you can kind of notice that during the earlier chapters however it is not as worse as it is compared to chapter 5 Dutch.
Yes ! The only moments in game or we can show the true gang. They are destroyed one of the most power family in the State with only 8 man. I can't imagine the strenght with all gang
Braithwaite: "I NEVER LIKED YOU, MR-- Hosea: "Matthews..." He just defuses her rage with a simple completion. He demands answers but doesn't let emotion take over. Fricking great character.
Domald Rof “you gotta love yourself a fire...” “Sure you can have fire...And the knowledge of fire...But with that comes the knowledge of EVERYTHING..”
they were fooled, why did jack get kidnapped? Why did they get involved in a age old feud, it only seems awesome on the surface, but deep down the Van Der Linden gang ain't no different, not really not anymore.
I think this part put a glime rof hope back into the gang, at least for a brief moment. Dutch wasn't going to let anyone mess with Jack, no one messes with family. That he would stop at nothing to make sure everyone was safe. He remained true to what he preached, even if it was for a moment.
I remember the sheer shock I've felt when seeing Sean die. His head suddenly blowing up and the gunshot sound. Then, the pure rage when fighting the Grays and killing the sheriff. Then, back at camp, the realization that we've been outsmarted by the very people that we were trying to rob. The feeling of absolute power I've got with the whole gang walking towards the manor. I have shivers just typing this. No other game made me feel that way.
the brilliance about sean’s death was how simple it was. there was no big music sting, no dumbass anime see-the-same-thing-happen-from-5-different-angles bullshit, no shot of each character reacting like “GASP OMG NO” he just gets shot and the fighting starts before he even hits the ground because they know they can’t afford to tarry or else they’ll be next
Sean’s death was the most unexpected and shocking of the game. Kieran disappeared prior to dying, Lenny and Hosea had survived up until chapter 4 so you knew something bad was gonna happen, that was just a regular mission at a fairly early portion of the game. Sean was literally in the middle of a sentence when he died. The only indication that something was wrong was the wagon in the road and Arthur feeling uneasy about it. Worst case scenario, it would be an ambush with a few guys that they’d stop and nobody in the game would get killed, right? Wrong. Not to mention that up to this point, you had no way of knowing that members of the gang could die, you figured plot armor would take care of everything. Sean’s death was the point where you realized, “This game is not playing around. At any mission, one of these lovable characters could suddenly get shot, and be dead forever. There are no extra lives.”
honestly. i havent finished the game, but seans death was shocking. i was especting a shootout, but i expected it to start with a conspicuous enemy jumping out really slowly or somebody shooting but missing. sean's head just fucking EXPLODES and then you have to make sure you arent next. one of my favorite scenes in any game. cant wait for all the parts later that yall never shut up about.
If you listen close you will notice that the guitar sounds very similar to the soundtrack from one of the early missions where John, Arthur and Javier are being chased by wolves. In this mission, it’s another Marston that needs saving. Well done on rockstars part.
Something I love that not a lot of people talk about is this is where John's character arc begins as we see him grow and mature into who is in the original game. It shows how much he cares for Abigail and Jack and that he’s willing to do anything to keep his family safe.
I felt the same thing! It's like he didnt realize just how much he cared until circumstance threatened to take them away from him. From that point on he realized what it was that mattered to him and what he fights for.
You can hear the starting riffs of American Venom start to present itself in the second half of this theme. He is starting to become the legend that we knew from the first game.
@@yourehereforthatarentyou They didn't have a title for the leitmotif. I don't wanna call it the Shootist since the leitmotif only presents in the end of that theme. I call it American Venom like they do in RDR2.
Arthur only has 3 lines during this mission after you get to the mansion. The focus is entirely on the gang and just how ruthless and unforgiving they will be to get jack back. I'm thinking rockstar did this to give you something to hold on to during the later chapters of the game when the gang is falling apart. Pure genius in my opinion. I also liked how they made you ride to the manor in the back of the posse
Anthony Fergerson Ikr during this point i was getting so excited when the others where like "You want us to come with you we heard about jack" And i was like "OOOHH BOY THE WHOLE GANG!"

Dutch stole that scene, and Hosea as well. They really should consider doing a game that revolves around both of them setting up the gang 20-30 years ago. Dutch deserves to take the spotlight in my opinion, such an interesting character.
@@emperorblack3409 It's from Dutch's perspective, I want that. If we got to Blackwater and just ended, maybe we could play post-game as Landon Rickets on his way to Mexico or something. But if not, to Dutch's death.

Dutch: "John, I need you to stay calm." Because I'm about to channel the fury of this _entire gang_ like a conductor guides an orchestra. Oh, I've got a plan, son...and this is a _good one._

But they Underestimated you, in your wake you leave a massacred town, a dead sheriff, and plantation burned to the ground with its owner, so distraught at the destruction you have wrought that she takes her own life.
Doing this mission right after the one in Rhodes with bill Micah and Sean really had my blood boiling, I was actually so into it at this point the game really sucks you in and makes you feel like you're part of the gang and the world 10/10

The moment when the gang walked side by side towards the Braithwaite Manor with one thing in their minds.. Getting the boy back. I could feel exactly how they must've felt in that moment.

Lucille has a symbolic plot in the Rhodes cemetery after she ran away from there with Douglass Gray. While Bartholomew is shot by Dutch he is mistakenly labeled as Gareth if you have the "Show subtitles' speaker" option on in the settings.
I feel like 2:55 is being extremely underrated from the timestamps I'm seeing in other comments. That intro with the rythmic snare drum, background beat to keep the time, and that classic RDR2 cowboy electric guitar...
Honestly this was the moment that made the game. Just thinking of the gang approaching the manor walking side by side, the attempt of negotiation, the sheer brutality and quickness with which the gang completely tore apart a long-lasting family of inbred criminals.
Gabringo The very thing that the Vander Linde gang proved in this single mission shows how dangerous and brutal they really are and this was over a kidnapped boy.
There was something incredibly powerful about seeing Dutch walking in the center, with Hosea to the right and Arthur to the left. The original three leading the pack.

Ikr, same thing with the saint denis bank robbery. I just got over Sean's death, only for Hosea do get fucking blasted on the street. Then I couldn't even mourn him because shortly after Lenny got shot...such a beautiful but sad game
Sean’s death was avenged by the death of the Gray clan. (Beau Gray excepted). The kidnapping of Jack was avenged by the burning of Braithwaite Manor and the end of their clan (Penelope Braithwaite excepted; after what she did to her cousin Gertrude, Penelope probably should’ve died too). Sean’s death was especially tragic, but I can’t stop crying for Gertrude.
The whole scene of them riding down the path, in formation, to the manor. Lit by lamps and torches and the boys come out to confront the gang. The buildup, the tension and then, eventually, the powder keg explodes. LEGENDARY
First time I played this mission, I had chills the entire time, the tension kept rising. The drums beating as the gang races through the forest; the whole gang, lined up, marching towards the manor guns out; and Dutch calling out the Braithwaites for what they are. Incredible game..

I went from lying on my bed to sitting close to the TV, mouth semi wide open and shivers travelling through my whole body. I was nervous for what was going to happen to the gang, what where they about to do? Paulo Peregrina U. That's true. Sean and Arthur were the ones that burned their tobacco fields and destroyed their business, so you can't really blame the Grays for reacting how anyone would react when it came to being played for fools and getting double-crossed like that. It makes sense that they would've recognized Sean and shot kid first on sight, but even still...Sean was like the little brother of the gang. He had heart and was always eager to put in work, so I just said to myself that motherfuckers were gonna bleed for taking him out. Game of the Decade, I know some of y’all are going to say: “God of War is ____”. It doesn’t matter, it lives up to the expectations. I’ll be GLAD to wait 8-10 years for the next one.
God of War is a most excellent game, the combat is so fucking unique I couldn’t believe it when I first played it. However, this is the only thing it has against RDR2, because that game had such immersion that I’ve never felt anything like it again RDR2’s world felt alive, the camp felt like each and every NPC was a real person going on their business, it felt like the character you played, Arthur Morgan, was a man that had so much to teach to the player, much more than the overpowered Kratos. It’s gonna sound so fucking stupid, but Arthur taught me to be loyal to what matters, and nothing else. Thanks Rockstar for that fucking masterpiece of a game, game of the generation without a doubt.
I think that a part of the reason that God of War was named GotY was the shock value. When it comes to RDR 2, we knew that the first (second) game was getting a sequel or prequel, we had an idea of what the gameplay and the world would be like and we knew to expect an amazing story. When it comes to God of War, I really didn't expect a sequel to Kratos' story, or that the setting would be Norway, or that the game would change the tradional style of hack and slash. Or that the story would be an amazing tale of a father and his son. When it comes to my personal view, I really don't know which game to name my GotY. I love them both.
"What the hell do YOU want?" "Easy, John" "We've come for the boy. You musta' known we would" "Shouldn't of messed with our business now, should ya?" "Whatever complaint you have with us, ALLEGED. Or otherwise. That is a young boy! That is not the way you do things. Hand him over."
Riften City Guard Mrs. Braithwaite makes Hosea play a game of cribbage with her and pretends to be civil while she has Arthur and Sean burn the Gray’s tobacco fields Hosea’s just making a joke about it as he torches the Braithwaite manor
Just love how uneasy the beginning of the track is and then how angry and aggressive the guitar becomes and then when its all over how soft the melody is god these pieces are beautiful
I remember playing this mission and my roommate stopping what she was doing to sit with me and watch, only familiar with the game through brief glimpses of seeing me play it. Both of us were crying, panicking about what would happen to Jack, and as neither of us had played RDR1, she ended up having to look up what happened to Jack, to prepare us both for the worst. Finding out he was okay and getting him back from Bronte's was the sweetest relief I've ever felt.
Best mission in any video game period. The fear of wondering if jack is ok , Johns anger and pure devotion to get his son back , the ride to the Manor with you seeing the power and love in the gang , the speech Dutch gives before everyone draws their weapons in sync almost. Beautiful
The guitar riff at 1:30 gives me a lump in my throat. Its a strange mix of grit, anger, and pity. A righteous anger cause a kid got kidnapped. But a feeling of guilt at murdering an entire family shines through a bit. It's especially apparent in game when Cathrine has a full on mental breakdown as everything burns around you.
This mission marked a turning point in the game for me and possibly many others. It showed just how serious the gang is about each other and the lengths they'd go to regain one of their own. They'd stroll up and tear down a deeply engrained criminal family in a matter of minutes to get their own back.

It’s a pure masterpiece
the brilliance about sean’s death was how simple it was. there was no big music sting, no dumbass anime see-the-same-thing-happen-from-5-different-angles bullshit, no shot of each character reacting like “GASP OMG NO”
he just gets shot and the fighting starts before he even hits the ground because they know they can’t afford to tarry or else they’ll be next

That shot from Dutch and then the music going into full-scale, then all of the fighting happening makes this whole mission ten times more badass.

However, this is the only thing it has against RDR2, because that game had such immersion that I’ve never felt anything like it again
RDR2’s world felt alive, the camp felt like each and every NPC was a real person going on their business, it felt like the character you played, Arthur Morgan, was a man that had so much to teach to the player, much more than the overpowered Kratos.
It’s gonna sound so fucking stupid, but Arthur taught me to be loyal to what matters, and nothing else. Thanks Rockstar for that fucking masterpiece of a game, game of the generation without a doubt.
If it takes a decade for every new Red Dead game to be made, I’ll gladly wait for them.
As long as each one is a masterpiece like it’s predecessor
The bosses in gow4 were a dissapointment compared to gow3.
@@CPNTT it's not stupid. He taught me the same thing. He *is* *real* for me.
"What the hell do YOU want?"
"Easy, John"
"We've come for the boy. You musta' known we would"
"Shouldn't of messed with our business now, should ya?"
"Whatever complaint you have with us, ALLEGED. Or otherwise. That is a young boy! That is not the way you do things. Hand him over."
"Get the hell off our land!"
"If you ain't gonna be civilised about this."

Almost sounds like the theme from the first game and when you go to kill Micah with John.
Beautiful
and micah isn't there
@@juan-du2mi best part of the mission
The good thing about this is that the music is conveying a very complex feeling.
a feeling that nothing could stop what you plan to do... utter devotion to a cause... prepared for the ultimate sacrifice for revenge.
