Neil Diamond says he has Parkinson's, retires from touring

- (23 Jan 2018) Neil Diamond is retiring from touring after he says he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Days shy of his 77th birthday, the rock legend is canceling his tour dates in Australia and New Zealand for March. He was on his 50th anniversary tour.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer offered his "sincerest apologies" to those who planned to go to his shows and says he plans to still write, record and work on other projects "for a long time to come."
Diamond's numerous hits include "Sweet Caroline," ''America," ''Love on the Rocks" and "Hello Again."
Diamond turns 77 on Wednesday and will get the lifetime achievement award at Sunday's Grammy awards.

Neil Diamond was in 1977, four days on Tour in Netherland.there were problems with the Hammond organ (117 Volt America-Europe 220 Volt) I'm approached by Lou van Rees Management for a solution to my Hammond Rent.After four days I got my B3 Hammond returned with Fire spots of Cigarettes.It frustrated me.They have me removed me from the Neil Diamond Fan Club because I had this listed on their site.Never Excuse of Neil Diamond '
He's never lost his singing voice. He's still got the same singing voice he had fifty years ago.

Mr. Diamond I also have Parkinson's Disease/diagnosed at 60 and have had it for 7 years now. I had DBS surgery (deep brain stimulation) and it has worked wonders. I would do it again if I had to. My hands no longer shake and I walk much better than before the surgery. God Bless you!

Just heard the news...and as I listen to this with tears in my eyes, I remember loving this man's music for 50 years now. Had the opportunity to see the legend in Toronto, back in 1987, and it is probably in my top 3 concerts of all time. Thank you Neil for a lifetime of stellar music!!

Neil Diamond has been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager... started with Jonathan Livingston seagull... Now, at the age of nearly 55, I still listen to this wonderfull performer. His music will be around forever.

I had his son Micah in my tent in summer camp around '90. Neil raised a good and normal kid, he was just normal and well grounded.

Wonderful! I'm not in the least bit surprised. I saw an interview with he & Son Jesse and I witness a lotta fond embracing, warm gentle, genuine dialogue and a real good feeling ...he was just wonderful DAD. No ego in sight. Celebrating his children's accomplishments and encouraging their autonomy. I'd have enjoyed a kind Dad like Neil. Huggable. Raw & Real. Rare.

This just breaks my heart. If anyone deserved to be able to go out on his own terms, it's he. I've been fortunate to see him in concert a number of times and to meet him once. He's a superb entertainer and a nice man. I hope he's able to continue creating music, if not for himself then for other performers. God bless him.

The only singer who had a haunting type of voice when he sang, cuts through the soul. I was watching the Phil Donahue show years ago when it was on and Neil was on and he said the same thing..."you have a haunting voice when you sing." And when I heard Donahue say that, out loud I said "that's what I always had said!" Love Neil Diamond. 💙 💙

He's retiring on a high note. That part's the best plus, he has a wife, kids, pets, friends & family that all love him and he can now relax...even if weeping when it's all done-- for bein' done too soon. The artist in him will continue...for fun at a reasonable pace, for fun. Let's celebrate. He deserves this rest. Now he can have leisurely fun. Imagine him singing & strumming on a dock somwhere or in a canoe...just taking in all the nature & solitude & memories. Pause. Respite. & a fond smile of we...F.O.N.D. 💖🎼💎
I listen to his records, I have got all of them. His music is timeless. His voice, music and lyrics touch me every time, again and again.

I'm 76 yrs young and i have been to four(4) concerts in my life.Two(2) for Brother Ray Charles,two(2) for brother Neil Diamond.Does that tell you where my sentiments lie?
How can anyone give this fantastic man a thumbs down. True talent this man wrote songs that told stories had meaning, not just a load of spoken garbage.

I was moved by messages posted on social media by other artists such as Brian Wilson, Neil Sedaka, Barry Manilow and Reba Mcintyre but the message that moved me the most was by Cat Stevens (now Yusuf) who first broke into the UK music scene at about the same time that Neil Diamond had his first hit in the US with Solitary Man in May 1966.
Sad news - I have loved your music for 50 years - may you find relief. Bless you. And thank you for the joy you have brought me over so many decades.
Feel sorry for those who have never seen one of his performances - not only the best entertainer but so in sinc with the audience with love and gratitude personified . Fortunately we have his legacy in his recordings, etc.
