    Thanks man I am watching this 6 years after you posted it and I have to run coax in the 24 680. As much as these new trucks cost I don't understand why they don't install a better coax from the factory.

      Just don't make the mistake of running a low coil antenna on that truck, like a wilson 2k. The coil needs to be above the mirror.

    This helped me out so much! Didn't have time any time I was near a CB shop to get my swr looked at. 21 T680. Factory had it around 8.5-9.5
    So never talked on it. Removed 1 antenna and it got down to 1.5 for a few days then jumped back up. Got the Wilson coax with the removable end, new Wilson antenna, and sanded everything down. Longest part for me to figure out was running it between the joint in the mirror, and fishing the coax up top. Its easier if you fold the mirror in to get in between them. Then for the fishing part, you'll have to remove those trim pieces, and kind of pile it on top of the little cubby (I did passenger side and wasn't much different). Got my SWR at 1.00 on CH19 now, sounds a lot better as well

    Love your video. Very informative. My brother has been trying to get his cb to work. He has a t680 and he keeps having issues with it like a bad ground at the antenna mount. I'm assuming that he might have to do something similar to what you have done. He already ran a new coax but he did not use a strap or clean the paint on the base either. I'll forward this video to him. Thanks again!

    I have an 06 W900 and my CB is a Stryker SR-447HPC2 and i have a few issues, first off i changed all my interior lights to LED, when I key up my drivers side dome light and center dome light light up every time i talk, and i get a ton of feedback through the stereo when the radio is on. Also if i have all my exterior lights on the Db meter is almost pegged out and i have to turn the squelch to 12 o'clock. I have a single wilson 2k trucker 50th Anniversary edition, and the clear see through 18ft coax with copper shield from the truck stop. The antenna is mounted to the mirror bracket as far out as possible, my SWR is 1.0 on 40 and 1, and 1.1 on 20. I tried hooking the CB straight to the battery and it still does the same thing, i have read on the internet that if you unhook the antenna then its not electrical related, its electromagnetic field or interference going in through the antenna. Well i unhooked the coax from the antenna and the Db meter goes flat, what could cause this or whats the remedy?

    • @jrichtruckincbtips
      @jrichtruckincbtips  5 лет назад +2

      Wow! That's a lot. I'm thinking it's a coax or ground problem. A quality coax from a CB shop or getting a good ground from the antenna to the frame. Thanks for watching.

    Hey question, I just bought a T680, if there is corrosion on the mirror already, I know you said use die electric grease, but won't that eventually just wash away, and the exposed aluminum with corrode and eventually cause issues after a while?

    Where your CB power goes through the pillar, did you add that or was that a factory hole with the grommet? Ultimately I want to do this my Work truck but without having to get the coax soldered, use a Cable with the end on it to go through the pillar ?. Great tutorial video

    • @jrichtruckincbtips
      @jrichtruckincbtips  4 года назад +1

      The hole with the grommet is factory. You can make the hole in the grommet as big as you need, but need to seal it up to minimize the dust and dirt getting into the fuse box. If I remember correctly, you can't get the Pl-259 through the mirror arm, I know Wilson makes a screw on end, but I haven't had good luck with those. Thanks for watching.

    • @jrichtruckincbtips
      @jrichtruckincbtips  3 года назад

      I'm guessing you mounted it to the grab bar? Don't think you're going to get the best performance behind the fairing. Need to make sure the back panel is aluminum not fiberglass or plastic. If it's aluminum I wouldn't worry about running a ground strap from the antenna to the frame, that would be like a 7' ground and not necessary.
      However bonding the cab to the frame will help a great deal. You can watch my latest video, as I've recently moved my antenna to the rear of the cab. And I go over RF Bonding the cab to the frame. It's a lot of work, but worth it. Thanks for watching. ruclips.net/video/J6PJyw6jh2M/видео.html

      No. I don't have that problem. Are you getting your CB power directly from the battery? Do you have an external amp, kicker, linear? Checked the SWRs lately to rule out bad coax or antenna? Try grounding your antenna(s). Something is definitely wrong the 33hp is 40+ watts, 497 is at 90 watts, my Galaxy is at 125+ watts without issue. Seems like you have too much power that's feeding back to the truck. If this goes on there is a chance of fire.
