It's like the universe is reading my mind... The neck and shoulders, especially combined, are some of the most difficult and expressive parts of the body, along with the hands and face.
Wow, those planes for the face around 23:15 helped me soooo much to better visualise the 3D space for it while I'm drawing! Thank you, Sycra, love your videos!
Hey hey heyyy sup dude i watched your vids to practice while i was visiting the U.S. and subbed, glad to know youre still keeping up the good work and i hope you have a great week and life
This helps so much! I've been drawing random lines on the neck because I'd seen other artists do it and it looked good, but when it came time to shade, I struggled because I didn't really know what was going on. But now I understand! Thank you!
Thank you for this video! Found out that I generally knew all the major tings but there were some things that clicked neck into a full cohesive picture in my head!
Re Warm and Cool Colours: another simple pattern to consider is the colour wheel of R, O, Y, G, B, V, which I guess is just the hue slider. the "generally" caveat applies. We know the complementary pairs: R/G, B/O, Y/V. From each pair, one is 'warm' and one is 'cool'. So if you use gamut masking for picking a palette, we can also use this to very generally pick our 'warm shadows, cool highlights' without having to think too much.
Very much appreciated. Although I haven't drawn in 6 months and it's currently 4:04 am, a video about drawing necks is still very much appreciated. Thanks sycra.
I actually had been working on this for the last couple of weeks. I figured it out by studying some of my favorite artists' drawings (I think Viktor Titov does this very well) As you say, adding the digastric plane makes it look more three dimensional. I also noticed that depending on the angle of the light, the jawline can sometimes completely disappear and be replaced by a softer terminator line that goes from around the mouth to the ear.
But which drawing program did you use for this video? I just found your channel because I was looking to get a drawing tablet and I found your drawing tablet video, went over to your channel, and am now bingewatching your vids... Thanks so much for this, I'm an aspiring person trying to be an artist and I just can't thank you enough!!
I remember a CGMA instructor once said avoid Sycra videos if you are a newbie. Go straight to the right source such as new masters academy or watts atelier. this type of tutotial will distort you knowledge. most of the newbie doesnt is a such thing called fundamentals.
Love your stuff sycra, and I love this "what I wish I knew" series.
Same!
