i can't feel more compassion for beard than now, Jacket ended up getting Schizofrenia and PTSD but even beard, who was dead, stood ther eto help him out, he won't really forget who saved his ass
The song "The Way Home" defines bittersweet and thus is more than fitting to Beard's story. The most amazing thing about Hotline Miami 2's expansion of the plot is Beard's story and his tie to Jacket. It also makes the first game tragic in retrospect.
withadeafeningcry It was a fitting track for the level considering it was their final mission. I think they didn't feel like they're not gonna make it considering it was a suicide mission but they did it anyway. It's sad how Beard's story ended, him and the entire city of San Francisco ravaged by nuclear inferno.
It’s the track that damn near made me cry. Beard knew he was being sent on a suicide mission, and that there was almost no chance he’d make it out alive. It sounds like a heroic ending, his peaceful accepting of his own fate, even though he technically made it out. This playing after the colonel telling his unit that he’s “damn proud” of them makes it even more emotional for me. Such a masterpiece of a game, storywise, gameplaywise, and music wise.
So true man so true just this part gave me tears in my eyes cause it's just... Pure emotions that goes with this moment just like when you Listen to you are the blood
Beard, my absolute favourite character in HM2. Shame you didn't talk about the fact that Richard surprisingly respects Beard. I also like to think that when Jacket threw the photo of him and Beard, he wanted to give it to him, wherever he is. Damn, brings a tear to the eye ;-( Great vid anyways, love your work mate !
Sorry about that! I'm leaving the Table Sequence for the Richard video. It might get mentioned there along with Richter showing his remorse when he thinks Richard is Jacket. But thanks, man! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed! :)
I guess that is because Beard (unlike most other characters) willingly stopped murdering people, unlike the others who mostly perished in violent ways or never realised that they should stop. Apart from Richter and (depending on the player) Evan
I just remembered. In the Pizza shop after the first level, you can see people arguing over something on a nearby table. One person of which having a parrot... like the general... also one of them had a gun...
@@oldjosephjoestar3787 well, most likely, since the first game didn't feature these guys... Instead the first game they have Dennis and Jonathan, which is the Dennaton Games. So I think that these guys in the pizza shop might be DD.
man watching these make the game so much better. it makes me sad knowing that theres not gonna be agotline miami 3. evebtually youll cover everything and there eill be no more hotline miami vids ;-;
I mean the first game came out maybe 4-5 years ago It's been a while we enjoyed them so much but I hope there's not a 3 the story went full crazy with 2 and doing a 3rd one would be kind of lame there's custom campaigns so that is good
I love how at some points I forget that we are talking about a video game story and not a story based on true events. Creators of Hotline Miami are really two fucking brilliant minds. Also, this was a great video. Once again, you explained some things that were really bothering me. Keep up the great work! :)
I remember when I first played Hotline Miami I was suspicious of Beard. Working different jobs, always friendly to Jacket and offering him something for free, his nice guy behaviour felt dubious. Then Wrong Number came out and I realised how wrong I was, he really was a nice guy.
Never knew that Hotline Miami had such a deep and depressing story, i always thought it was just an arcade shooter. I guess things really don't turn out the way you expect them to...
I like Barnes and Daniel's rivalry with each other. They typically have opposite views, and engage in friendly bickering. Really telling how close they are when Daniels stays behind to be with Barnes during his final moments despite the extreme danger.
Your face When this simple little violent pixel game you found on steam, turned out to have a way more deep and intricate story then you caught onto.... Your reaction when a simple arcade-like game of violently clearing floors of Russian mobsters turns out to have a really deep and intricate story hidden inside it. This game is amazing.
I’m a couple years late to your comment, but if you love games that don’t seem like they make sense until the end…try payday 2 crimewave edition. Play the story in order (you can even play as Jacket and he uses a tape recorder to talk, which is both terrifying and hilarious). By the end of it you’ll be going “wtf…how did we end up here?” Or if you don’t have hours on hours to pour into the game just watch the story recap (not as fun or impactful but I think doing the whole story takes a long time in payday 2 and it requires some gun and level grinding to beat more difficult levels that can take awhile). It gets pretty crazy and there is a lot of humorous stuff you have to look past, but if by the end you aren’t mad that payday 3 sucks than you did it wrong and have to start again.
Beard, besides Evan, is probably the most sane person in HM. As you said, he doesn't like want to fight but knows he has to since he's fighting in a war. Keep up the videos! Don't forget about that Jacket video 😉
I have the feeling that the different jobs that Beard has in the first game are also connected to Squadmates of the unit Jacket was in. Supermarket= Beard Bar= Barnes (since he wanted to open a bar) Videostore= Daniels (he hates Russians the most and calls them Ruskies) Pizza place= Maybe the Colonel (I can’t tell how, maybe about him not being excited about his job or position)
maybe because its 3 am, and when im tired im also more emotional, but i swear to god, this made me tear up a little bit, like, its really sad man, i really love beard
Beards definitely my favorite character he reminds me of my dad he was a military veteran and is a very friendly guy and he looks like him but with glasses
I don't think jacket killing Russians dishonours Beard's memory. I agree with the fact that Beard would want Jacket to pursue the good things in life, and Jacket did, like with the Hooker character, but she dies when Jacket disagrees with the calls given by 50 Blessings, showing that he must have followed the orders either way to be able to actually enjoy life. When richter disagrees, he gets his car torched, so he must follow to keep on enjoying his life. Like always, great video.
I think Jacket's killing spree was also a symptom of him being unable to deal with his friend's loss. After all he was possibly the only person that gave a true shit about him and also saved his life. I can picture him trying to redirect all that anger, depression and frustration onto bad people even if he was a sociopath like most war veterans. No one can justify his actions but understanding them gives him depth as a character.
Shout out to CosmiSora's Grandfather, and all of America's veterans for fighting for our freedom. Thanks to their sacrifices, I'm able to sit at home and make videos on this awesome game. Thank you.
Squatch Gaming Official I didn't think anybody talked or remembered about hotline miami this much after 20 minutes of release of the game. you know, 20 minutes after the realease, everybody, even dennaton and the developers forgot about the game
Probably the only kind hearted character who found some sort of closure with calmness and peace, even Richard acknowledged it. Thanks for the video Squatch
First time I saw Beard I just immediately went “I do not trust him” and then he did that weird static with the vanishing corpse thing and died and I got scared and died
R.I.P to the "Ghost Wolves" I wonder if Jacket and Beard felt guilty for having to leave Barnes and Daniels in that explosion, I would be pist too if I had lost all my friends to the hands of the bad guys Edit: I just found out that Daniels is alive, he saw jackets arrest on the TV in the comics
FunFact - Beard is make of Swedish music and visual artist El Huervo (by given name Niklas Akerblad) who made (or by a great part) visual art of HM1 and Wrong Number and also added music such as Rust (intro of Stronghold), Daisuke (playing when approaching Beard in HM1), Turf (Jacket´s last mission), Ghost (morning after Colonels/Generals frakout) and much more spiritual music, you should find more out about him guys.
These videos are excellent. I know that you are probably running out of topics but please keep making them. They are the only truly clear explanation of the plots in HM.
Thank you! I work hard on them, so I'm glad to hear you like them so much! There will be a few more videos about Hotline, but I am getting close to the end of the line.
What the colonel says while wearing the mask reminds of what liquid said to solid snake, that he always back to the battlefield because he enjoys all the killing, the rush he gets while killing, the pleasure of taking a life,he likes all of it subconsciously.
Thanks for this. It seems my grandfather is coming down to where I live for my birthday. I'm gonna show him this Before ya ask, he's making a full recovery
Awesome! I'm happy to hear that! And you're very welcome! :) I forgot to post the shout out I had planned for your grandfather, but I got it out there. Thank him for me?
Great video, Beard is always a good character to remind. I always get my heart tight with that scene where he gives Jacket the Polaroid. It was one of the most mindblowing moments when I was playing the games for the second time, trying to get the story better. This game is truly amazing.
I finished watching the video, decided to look in the comments, and then found this one and also questioned the Toilet. My answer is Russians are just weird. Some countries have a car's steering wheel on the side we Americans call the passenger side, so maybe they put their toilets somewhere else too XD
A theory I have pertaining to the name of jacket is that ,each mask you find in the game has a name and that is the name of the person who used the masked previously. The name of your starting mask is Richard this I came to the conclusion that the character that everyone calls jacket is actually named Richard
Aww man, poor Beard... Now I know why Jacket continued the Russian massacre, it was to avenge his best friend. This just made the game ten times more sad. RIP Beard - You were both an honorable man in the battlefield and a trustworthy friend... WE SALUTE YOU T_T
beard....my favorite character of the whole game, man great video.....I cant wait to see what you have planned for Richard....I suspect is gonna be a 2 parts video...maybe 3 since he looks like it gonna be A LOT OF INFORMATION to analyze XD
havent watched the full video. my theory is beard is seen at random time intervals. like for example lets say jacket does a mission and its like jan 1 for him he goes out for a mid night snack to where beard works and buys stuff. he goes home and does what he does. this time he does a mission at sept 16 and jacket goes to a pizza shop and beard is there. *either he works multiple jobs, is a sort of freelance 'call me if you are understaffed' guy, or got fired for giving jackets midnight snack for free aka 'its on the house'*
beautiful thing was that Beard gave all these free stuff to Jacket in shops and always said "its on the house" and you thought who's that crazy guy and why he's being so weird. and then you realize his story and what that "its on the house" means. thats strong shit, man.
The Power Plant mission is easily one of my favorite missions in the entire series. When that track kicked in (The Way Home), I almost welled you in tears knowing I was gonna mow down som commies, only to meet my eventual doom. Couldn’t help but think “it’s been a damn good run, boys.”
It's scary to think what would happen if all 4 were involved during the main events of 1 and 2. These 4 were taking camps and power plants from heavily trained soldiers.Imagine what they could do to untrained thugs.
"While Hotline Miami is mainly a story of violence, there is also a tale of friendship between two of the characters." OH OH, I know who it is! It'ss Barnes and Daniels! No?? Oh, I gotcha then, Evan and Pardo, of course. I was about to say it. Wait, not them?? Dammit.
Yo I just discovered this game last year and love it ever since I got hooked on the plot twist story I love this channel because it uncovers the vague truth of HLM WHEN i first got the game i had it wiretapped to me on my school computer and had both games sad that it's summer I don't have it so I ordered the box edition hey man i would love to see you do a in boxing if you have the box edition sadly the chances of hotline miami 3 coming out are miniscule besides if the do hotline miami wildlife which I would love to see anyways man i love this cha Neil hope you keep up the good work I hope this isn't asking to much but i would love to see you do a HLM WILDLIFE breakdown of the story and summarize it if you see this please comment t back to me
Squatch Gaming Official I think that maybe, A part of Richard is still Jacket very in the deeps of his memory, and he tells him that, meaning that Richard and Jacket, both still misses him.
Dr. Chipotle i think because richard represents death, he could've "met beard under better circumstances" he could've had a better death and not killed by a nuke
I think its because beard actaully reconizes the clothes hese wearing and notices how those were Jackets and the better circumstanses by not meeting in war
What if, the reason beard is at all of these different places is that jackets mind is unable to remember where exactly beard wanted to work, so it puts him in a few possibly places of work
I think you should've talked about Beard's encouncer with Richard, but maybe that's a topic for another episode. I just loved the table sequence from hm2, when you start a new game. One of my favorite eastereggs in Hotline Miami
There's this theory that says that, Beard/The Soldier represents the player were the game just starts to become more and more frustrating, You sometimes just want to stop and do something else but, then they give you another mission, and another one, and you end up completing them, why? Because maybe if you do it you may see something else, you may see another scene were you can just do something that isn't just pointless killing, maybe you don't really want to kill everyone but they don't give you a choice, you have to do it, the game can only proceed if you do so, and maybe next time you may not need to hurt anybody, or maybe not... That's Beard, a poor man that just wants to relax and have a peaceful life but it's forced to kill whenever they tell him to do so, and hopes that the next mission it's the last
i can't feel more compassion for beard than now, Jacket ended up getting Schizofrenia and PTSD but even beard, who was dead, stood ther eto help him out, he won't really forget who saved his ass
Beard really is a great guy isn't he? Loyal and loving. It's a shame he was killed after he thought his fight was over.
Squatch Gaming Official he atleast is resting in peace, even richard doesnt want him suffering. Who's next now?
joe mcnoe he helped on his own methods
To kill for yourself is murder.
To kill for your government is heroic.
To kill for entertainment is harmless.
@Rodrigo spec ops: the line. Great game... that will mess you up though.

At the end of beards second level, Beard actually says his name is Dan.
He's speaking in code.
Fantastic video as always!
This one's gotta be my favourite. Great video!
"No need to thank me, kid.
It's on the house."
I thought that Jacket saw his other friends as beard, like in the bar. idk how to explain it
I love your Hotline Miami videos, i enjoy the games and watching yours vids help me understand alot more
I could listen to squatchs voice all day
Do "Halucination" video !! example : richard , owl mask , zebra mask in hotline miami 1
I'm sure they'll come up in the Richard video.
Horse mask*
*rasmus, *don juan
Bruh imagine being a russian and finding out that the guy who has been killing your colleagues is doing it for vengance
wouldn't surprise me, nobody dedicates that much work into wiping someone out unless they're holding a grudge
Beard is honestly my favorite character in the hotline Miami chronology
The Power Plant mission is easily one of my favorite missions in the entire series.
When that track kicked in (The Way Home), I almost welled you in tears knowing I was gonna mow down som commies, only to meet my eventual doom.
Couldn’t help but think “it’s been a damn good run, boys.”
It's scary to think what would happen if all 4 were involved during the main events of 1 and 2.
These 4 were taking camps and power plants from heavily trained soldiers.Imagine what they could do to untrained thugs.
"While Hotline Miami is mainly a story of violence, there is also a tale of friendship between two of the characters."
OH OH, I know who it is! It'ss Barnes and Daniels! No?? Oh, I gotcha then, Evan and Pardo, of course. I was about to say it. Wait, not them?? Dammit.
Oh...
Now I understand better.
Amazing video!
duuuuude amazing video for beard loved it!
I love this game and I love this channel. Thx SGO! Greetings from Spain.
Yo I just discovered this game last year and love it ever since I got hooked on the plot twist story I love this channel because it uncovers the vague truth of HLM WHEN i first got the game i had it wiretapped to me on my school computer and had both games sad that it's summer I don't have it so I ordered the box edition hey man i would love to see you do a in boxing if you have the box edition sadly the chances of hotline miami 3 coming out are miniscule besides if the do hotline miami wildlife which I would love to see anyways man i love this cha Neil hope you keep up the good work I hope this isn't asking to much but i would love to see you do a HLM WILDLIFE breakdown of the story and summarize it if you see this please comment t back to me
Beard is my favorite character, mainly because of the background and the unique gameplay that he have.
What do you think beard means when he says he's met richard before at the table sequence?
What do you think it means? Your thoughts are probably as good as mine! :)
I think its because beard actaully reconizes the clothes hese wearing and notices how those were Jackets
and the better circumstanses by not meeting in war
Dr. Chipotle maybe richard = colonal
Wow. This video makes hotline Miami less confusing, thanks.
Please make more videos of Hotline Miami because they truly help me see the picture of everything!!
I will! There's not much more left to cover though!
What if, the reason beard is at all of these different places is that jackets mind is unable to remember where exactly beard wanted to work, so it puts him in a few possibly places of work
Man this shit was sad as hell I gotta replay both HM tonight
Beard: One of the people who didn't ask for any of this, with the rest of Miami, Hawaii, and San Francisco.
I think you should've talked about Beard's encouncer with Richard, but maybe that's a topic for another episode. I just loved the table sequence from hm2, when you start a new game. One of my favorite eastereggs in Hotline Miami
Yeah, the table sequence will be in a separate video. :)
Artwork for Beard+Hotline Miami 2=sadness overload
There's this theory that says that, Beard/The Soldier represents the player were the game just starts to become more and more frustrating, You sometimes just want to stop and do something else but, then they give you another mission, and another one, and you end up completing them, why? Because maybe if you do it you may see something else, you may see another scene were you can just do something that isn't just pointless killing, maybe you don't really want to kill everyone but they don't give you a choice, you have to do it, the game can only proceed if you do so, and maybe next time you may not need to hurt anybody, or maybe not...
That's Beard, a poor man that just wants to relax and have a peaceful life but it's forced to kill whenever they tell him to do so, and hopes that the next mission it's the last
I wonder if The Colonel's real name is Brandon because of the panther face
another great vid as always. beard was my favorite.
the music that plays during his sequences is"Daisuke" by El Huervo
Ohh Holy notification, Beard Is One of my favorite.
thanks for the upload.
Thanks for watching! :)
