For anyone curious on doing his trick of removing the upper dimmer plate..... IT WORKS AMAZINGLY, it made a drastic difference in lighting and that is only with my stock bulbs aswell!
Love the trick of removing the upper dimmer plate. Going to try this on the wife's 99 CR-V 👍🏼 Also for people saying it takes the amber look away, they do make amber LED's.
Can confirm youre able to remove the dark strip from a 99-04 Honda Odyssey also. Looks awesome !! Cluster comes apart just like these in the video & there's tons of videos on how to get it out of the dash.
Did this LED upgrade on my 96 hx. Turned out really good I can see my cluster gauges a lot better now. I used a 99 ex faceplate and one of the light pictures a changed with cruise control to the shift light from my stock faceplate. The only one I had a problem with was the bulb on the bottom of the cluster is hard to get out so I just let it be. But my seat belt light works again. Very happy. Nice video man I sent you a description on fb.
3:27 thanks for uploading this video because Im swapping out the bezel on my first gen CR-v pretty soon for a jdm carbon one, I like the red glow at night so keeping that part stock
I have a 92 civic. Be careful with the LED bulb swap in the gauges. When I swapped out my bulbs for LEDs, it caused one of the gauge cluster connections to burn out. I had to solder the broken connection together to repair it. I left the LEDs in and the gauge lights still work--finger's crossed. It may have something to do with the LED bulbs drawing too little power. Same reason why if you swap out turn signal bulbs with LEDs the signals flash faster. It's recommended to install an inline resistor when installing LEDs.
Have a similar problem. Do a led swap for all the dash lights like 3 months ago and now they are all dying. I want to replace all the leds again. And now im aware that I need to use a voltage regulator like you said. Only problem is. I have no idea where to put it. What's the cable or circuit i have to use? Can you help me pls? 95 civic.
Please clarify this for me. The 194 is the big bulb that has the wire connecting to the top two shine down bulb...i only see 1 194 bulb, not two like stated on the website. Then the t5 bulbs are the bulbs that shine behind the gauges...i only see 6 on my cluster. Then the notification bulbs and the 2 bulbs that shine down onto the gauges are the t10s? Please just clarify this info for me please.
Just installed new LED’s in my cluster 10 minutes ago. The problem is that the brightness throughout the gauge cluster is uneven as it is, the LED’s made it brighter, but the difference in brightness is still there. Yours looks pretty even though. I swapped out 5 bulbs (brown ones) just like you showed, but no dice. Also I wasn’t able to remove the LED’s up top where you took out that dimmer shield. Thoughts?
great video man, thank you! but could you please keep the music down when you go into work mode? constant volume control as it gets super loud when you are not talking.. cheers
Click the link pinned to the top comment. I always pin the store in the top comment. When you click the link, at the top of the page it explains everything.
hey man great video and explanation of the how to. I have one question about the size bulbs. I have a 98 Honda civic hx. and in the cluster I have three different size bulbs. 1 large one which is the same as my dome light 194 I believe. then 4 medium size bulbs. they are located on the far right middle of the cluster, the far left, and bottom middle. they are different size in both base and bulb than the front two and indicator lights. I wish I could send a picture but can you tell me what the different size bulbs and bases are?
Does the 92-95 Civic cluster have the darkened strip that he removes? Just did this on my 99 CRV and it looks great, now curious if it will work on my 92 hatch?
Can confirm the removing the dark strip trick doesn't work on the 92-95 Civic. Tried to do it on my EG over the weekend and it doesn't have one, it does however work for the 97-01 CR-V and looks great!
01 CRV 74s are working for all black sockets but not the Greys. They're working for the two upper outside illumination lights and warning lights only. The grey sockets, the ones on my 01 CRV, are slightly bigger bulbs than the 74s in the black sockets. Taking a close look at your video, there appears to be not much light coming through from behind your gauges. Mostly light shining upon the outside face of your gauges. I suspect that only the two upper outside illumination 74s and the single 158 are working for you. But they're lit up from the outside enough to compensate. If you like the look, then it's whatever. But I'm looking for what size bulb actually work in the grey sockets because 74s aren't working for me.
it seems you would have replaced the warning light bulbs with LEDs since they're the ones that cooked your lenses the first time. They're probably going to get cooked again. Probably from sitting with the key on to listen to the radio or charge a phone without running the car. Maybe ignoring seat belt light or other warning light
It's all good having a fresh bright led cluster in your face, but I'm a driver. And when I'm driving in low light I want the dash in stealth mode for no distractions taking my eye from the road...but that could just be me 🤔
yes can you please verify what size light bulbs we need and how many we need. And also the light bulbs that are on you website dont look like the ones you installed. Thanks
They are the same bulbs. When you're on my website in the store, at the top I explained all the information you need to order. I give all the bulb types and how many of each you need to purchase.
Basically, you can pick the number bulb you need at the top that tells you the type and how many you need, then you scroll the store below to find that bulb type, you can choose what color in that bulb number you want. I added multiple color bulbs in the store in case people wanted to change colors.
Yes you can, I didn't just because the SI had a different finish but they are identical and will line right up. Note: It must be from a manual transmission "EX" cluster because the auto has no gas light notification.
Ah yeah I figured it might of had something to do with the finish, I swapped an EK9 Type-R cluster into my EM1/SI so this gives me something to play around with, cheers for the video!

I put a strip of white paper where you removed that light filter and it diffuses the light very well
That’s a fire waiting to start lol
My leds don’t get hot enough to start any fires

Nice little mod making the cluster illumination brighter by removing that darkened strip.

love this guy no homo.....always has something positive at the bottom end of this screen n through out his videos. ....
Like the vid, but the LEDs kinda kill the Amber affect of it
Juan Rodríguez same. I thought he was using a amber LED

What size tire on the si wheels looks good
Look at the top comment for my Amazon Store link. Then click on "Nthefastlane Tires". The exact tires I used are the first ones.
Can you use the T5 bulbs for the brown spots?
How many led bulbs do I need and what size are they?
Specific polarity you installed the bulbs?
I have a 96 Civic EK coupe I clicked on the link it took me to amazon but it says it doesn’t fit my car...

You removed the back lights?

Follow up. With a pick, I was able to put bends in the contacts of the gray sockets. Now the cheapest 74s I could find on eBay work.
Very cool! Thanks!!
How can I make ONLY the amber color more brighter?
it seems you would have replaced the warning light bulbs with LEDs since they're the ones that cooked your lenses the first time.

Did you have the wiring diagram that painel instrument honda civic 1999?
