    1971 Golden Seals first pick to the Montreal Canadiens that became Guy Lafleur was the worst to me!

    The Kings sending their 1st round pick in the '79 draft to the Bruins for goaltender Ron Grahame that became future hall of famer Ray Bourque

      I tend to forgive those, as you NEVER KNOW if a draft pick can be a hall of famer, or a bust.

    Is this an AI voice? It’s mind blowing how many well known names are mispronounced in this video. On the other hand, I definitely appreciate how this actually looks at the history of the league, as opposed to only the last twelve years like most hockey videos nowadays.

      100 % AI, no way can someone who brags about hockey knowledge make that many mistakes. And some of these trades weren't actually bad.

    I was expecting Bruins trading Joe Thornton to be #2 on this list.. won MVP same year he was traded.. everyone knew he was a star - for nothing.

    Serge Savard made a lot of horrific trades but John Leclair, Eric Desjardins & Gilbert Dionne for the characterless Mark Recchi.

    Going back to the late 50s, Leafs traded for Norris winger Red Kelly for Marc Reuame. Imlach converted Kelly to second line centre where he won four Cups for the Leafs.

    The NHL did exist before 1970 Im surprised this trade was left out 1967 The Black Hawks traded Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield to the Bruins for Pit Martin, Gilles Marrotte and Jack Norris, This won the Bruins 2 Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972

    Canucks always criticized for the Neely trade but back then, Cam was a local boy done good and was rumoured to be drinking and partying a lot. So while he definitely had a great career in Boston, not sure it would have been the same had he remained in Vancouver. Glad the Canucks made up for it with Naslund!

    • @glennhankins6927

      True. Ramage was a significant part of the Flames winning the Stanley Cup, so not one of the worst trades.

    One highway robbery of a trade isn't even there and should be number 1 by two marathons:
    Nordiques trading Lindros to the Flyers and getting Hextall, Duchesne, Huffman, Ricci, Simon, Peter Forsberg, two 1st round picks and $15M in cash.

    • @HockeyShowdown

    Gretzky to the Kings wasn't a bad trade. It was a necessity for then owner Peter Pocklington. He needed the money, desperately. Keep in mind, Edmonton won the Cup after the trade and Gretzky never won it again.

    • @jimclarence5441
      @jimclarence5441 Месяц назад

      Just to add. Kinda funny that Pocklington needed the money, 15m in the trade.....he was later imprisoned for embezzlement. Got the money from the Kings owner....who was later imprisoned for spending money he never had (embezzlement)

    I was born and raised in Montreal and was watching the game on TV when Patrick Roy let in all those goals, ironically we were all very happy when he got pulled as we thought he went to Corey and said " It's him or me", which meant Mario Tremblay was gone. I woke up the next day and found out what he really said and was devastated, as were millions of others.

    Montreal giving away Chelios/2nd rounder in his prime for a washed up Dennis Savard should be on this list. Chelios also was one season removed from winning the Norris with the Habs. Trading away one of the greatest American players ever at time and present was one of the biggest heists of all time. Patrick Roy cried for days after this trade was announced. No joke about Roy crying either.

      @dansmith9586 bro, he was a healthy scratch in the final 2 rounds during that run to cup. Chelios won two Norris trophies, won a Stanley Cup with Detroit and played 20 more nhl seasons after that trade.

    Dennis Savard for Chelios

    • @Polytrout
      @Polytrout Месяц назад

      @yourhouseprice it's even worse. Denis Savard didn't play in the game where Montreal won their last Stanley Cup. He made his way back to Chicago just as Jeremy Roenick was injured. Upon his return to Chicago, Denis Savard returned to his star performance level.

    • @Polytrout
      @Polytrout Месяц назад

      Middleton for Hodge WAS NOT a mistake on the part of the Rangers. General manager John Ferguson KNEW that Rick Middleton had potential but he was getting in trouble away from the arena in New York. This trade was made by Fergy for Middleton's own good. Ricky Middleton suffered the wrath of Don Cherry because of his undisciplined play reflecting his carefree lifestyle.
      The Brett Hull trade was known to be one-sided by Cliff Fletcher. He even predicted immediately (literally minutes after the trade) that Brett Hull would score 75 goals over the next 2 seasons. The trade was made to shore up the goaltending and defence.
      These two trades were one-sided but the GMs getting the short end of the stick were fully aware.

    I Don't know why people keep listing the Roy trade. After he was left in for 9 goals in an 11-1 loss to Detroit he went up to the Habs team president and told him this was his last game in Montreal's crease.
    Can you call it one of the worst when you have no options but to get what you can?

    Calgary trading Brett Hull for Ramage and Walmsley comes to mind but they did win the Cup with them
    Maple Leafs trading Rask
    Islanders trading Luongo

    Terry Harper has his name on the Stanley Cup - Gilbert Dionne doesn't. You cannot have a person read this as half the players names are mispronounced. Also big deal Rick Middleton didn't ever win a Stanley Cup.

    So the Oilers trade the Great One to the Kings….the Great Won never won the cup again….the Oilers did. And if you count the fact that most of those Oilers would move away and get back together for the Rangers and won another cup. I’m not seeing this as the worst trade ever.
