Oh my, Koyuki's design is so nice to look at! I also like how in when she's royal, she looks obviously serious, and has a vibe "I'm not gonna go easy on you"(idk how to describe it other way). But in when she's in disguise, she seems like an older sister, that's patient, kind and understanding.
I love, how you blend different East Asian elements, like Hime's "sneaky" clothes are Japanese inspired, and her princessy one, is clearly Chinese inspired. And the best part is that it all works together so well! A lot of people just put characters in kimonos and yukatas and call it "Chinese" and vise versa, but you are very through about it.♥️ Also, congrats on joining us, light novel writers!
The hair "shape" reminds me of Lila from Miraculous tbh but I still live your work! Hey Doc, give it to me straight. I wasn’t born with artistic talent and I’ve been trying to draw manga illustrations for about 2 weeks now and I’m not making much progress. Is it possible for someone with no talent, to gain enough skill through practice to make their art look really good or am I poop outta luck?
I might not be the person you want advice from, but I will try and help anyways- you can improve with the right exercises. Choose one thing you struggle with, hands for example, and draw them over and over again. Draw them using references, use your own body as a reference or pictures online. Never give up, and you’ll improve. Feel free to ask me anything if you need help ^^
Yes. A lot of artists aren’t born with talent, if you’re passionate about it you’ll get better. I’ve been drawing for years now and I haven’t made that much progress but hey I’m not giving up yet. It’s a lot of practice, and sometimes improvement happens while you’re not trying to improve and your just drawing a lot.
Of course I’m young so things are a bit different but if you keep trying you will see improvement, and if you have a lot of artists that inspire you that. Can give you motivation to keep going. And if drawing isn’t going well just grab a picture and trace guidelines and shapes you notice into it to get a hang of things. I’m a beginner myself so I can’t give many tips but I hope I can help

Your video reminded me of a Yu-Gi-Oh fic I wrote with a princess as the main character. She's inspired by (and named after) Princess Adena, but she has a very different personality from the original Adena 😁. The original Princess Adena was a princess npc from a video game Seto Kaiba designed and was gentle, wise, and kind, but very easily scared and kind of a flat damsel character common to nineties video games. My version is surprisingly brave (though being a young girl, can and does get scared when face to face with something crazy), and somewhat of a tomboy. She acts regal in public ("just quietly smiling and nodding along" as she puts it), but she has a mischievous, daring side and gets into trouble a lot. Since she's just eleven, she has a council of regency to help her run the country, but they don't let her do anything and make most of the decisions on their own without her input. Most of the time the trouble she gets into is because she's bored since her council won't let her do anything.
You inspired me to start designing some OCs for myself, because everytime i try to design one, i just don't know how, or where to start, i would end up with an ugly or a random character :') also, i wanna start training myself on drawing male bodies, cuz i am sooooooooo awful at it ;-;

"I'm not trying to be historically accurate or anything -- that would be kinda hard to do." ^ my exact thoughts when attempting a Warring States era authentic Japanese novel. It's not the culture, the mythology that makes it hard. It's the fact that every piece of clothing, furniture, building and weapon has its own Japanese name. Kimono literally translates to "something to wear," but you couldn't call it a "robe" because it's much more than that. Then again, when all your readers are primarily NA/EU, maybe they won't know all the authentic names at all? Maybe they won't want to Google every other word they bump into? Great designs btw! :D

^ my exact thoughts when attempting a Warring States era authentic Japanese novel. It's not the culture, the mythology that makes it hard. It's the fact that every piece of clothing, furniture, building and weapon has its own Japanese name. Kimono literally translates to "something to wear," but you couldn't call it a "robe" because it's much more than that. Then again, when all your readers are primarily NA/EU, maybe they won't know all the authentic names at all? Maybe they won't want to Google every other word they bump into?

The second outfit idea (the scrapped one) was so similar to a japanese archery outfit. I akso think that the sneaky outfit would look better with pants, not a skirt, because it's easier to move in.
