At 55 my body looks better than it did in my 30-40s all from fasting, cutting out sugar, most alcohol and lifting weights. I'm down 50 pounds and still losing. I expect to be a 3-4 very soon.

In my 30’s I was vegan for 7 years. Lost bone in my gums, became a perio patient. Now in my 80’s I’m carnivore. Why? I am diagnosed as prediabetic and osteopenia. I’m attempting to bring glucose levels down to 90 or below. Protein needs change with AGE. It is much more difficult to combat insulin resistance at this age. I wish I had known about INSULIN 20 years ago. My situation was/is preventable. Thank you for making your research public.❤ Perhaps you can change the trajectory of diabetes figures.

@ I include a bit of miso in my bone broth. Adding onions to make bone broth adds flavor and other nutrients. I’ve got a jar of kraut and add a garnish to my meat meals. Yes, I’m still attending to my microbiome. Mostly it is management is about reducing carbs to token amounts. I’m focused on reducing insulin….while not bearing myself up about being STRICT carnivore. Many people make a religion out of food. I’m not one of them.

Thanks to, initially, a Mediterranean Diet, followed by a Keto Diet, now 20 hour fasting everyday plus eating well during my 4 hour window. Blood work is good, markedly improved from July, no pain, no pills, good blood pressure. Good energy levels. Thank You! And then I go sleep like a baby with a full belly. I confess that when I first started doing this, it was hard to digest all that food in bed. Now, 7 years of daily practise later, eating one giant meal a day, my body adapted and my digestive capacity improved. Now being able to eat a huge meal a day is a super power.

In the UK which I know has a (slightly) different food culture and possibly better availability of unprocessed foods, I wouldn't like to recommend too many options on 'convenience' foods as it's so important to appreciate where the foods is from, what you are consuming, how you are consuming- who with, the taste, smell, colour, texture, when & with whom. Slow life down just enough to allow time to buy/prepare & eat properly. I know that's difficult for some.

First thing I do in the store are fresh fruits and all kinds of vegetables preferrably organic and raw nuts, matcha tea and wild fish. My husband can eat anything he is fit and does not eat much but does eat organic saurbread. I had my blood analized hear this end next week but am sure I have insuline resistance which started 25 years ago when my theroïd did not function anymore since then on meds gained 25-30 kilo overweight. 70 years is my age and now have all kinds of inflammation and maligne white bloodcells became sick after the covid vaccines😢
So reading your book Dr Mindy and following the lessons of you and your guest and other people who make sense about our metabolic health, inspires me to stop the cravings. Do not drink alcohol and walk the dogdaily about 4 times but had to stop my great job 2 years ago when I got the chronic fatique and pain.
Hopefully I will benefit also. Yesterday I bought 75ug Vitamine D 3 icm 25 ug Vitamine K2 and took 3 capsules to have 9000 IU and took about 25 ml Omega 3 Möllers with Vitamine A D and E. Aim to put the doses up for sometime because I learned it can take even a whole year to come to a plateau even when taking up to 50.000 IU daily.
My hope is to get more energy. On February 3rd I have my check up with the hematologist in hospital😊

I've found that the healthier I eat, the less I eat... I eat to live rather than live to eat. I think my grocery bill would shock most people 🤏
I fast because my body loves it, not for the sake of lowering costs. But I also make most meals from scratch, so that certainly helps 😉

So many researchers are now saying older women must work with weights to build muscle for longevity. How does that coincide with getting enough protein before your workout if you're fasting? What impact does this have on lean muscle mass? See for example, Dr Stacy Sims or Dr. Peter Attia.

I agree! It’s a personal preference, but I look forward to to a relatively late, big breakfast of eggs, bacon, cheese, some green veg; no “lunch,” but a late snack of nuts & tea; then I can more easily skip dinner (just tea) or a very light meal, like a tin of sardines if very hungry. No munching after “dinner.” 🤗

Then, let me clarify to you Dr. Bikman. I have, not by my fault, had to learn about the biome after getting C. Difficile from antibiotics. Rest assure the microbiome is Vital, VITAL to good health. Weight, sleep, everything. Akkermansia was one such strain that helped. You are missing something if you do not look at the still early research on the microbiome. Yes, I read your book.

I’m not diabetic or pre diabetic as I’ve had every test there is but I often super hypos which are severe and I have to carry jelly beans with me. I start shaking, full body excessive sweating and after a hypo I pass out for a few hours and feel dreadful after. I have about 7 kgs too much weight but stick to low carb no wheat or processed foods and only have one meal a day. I’ve kept a diary of my hypos and there is no obvious reason for hypos. I could go all day without eating and not have a hypo, I might have a small or large meal of protein and veg and sometimes I would have a massive hypo or a minor one. Nothing has a pattern to my hypos and endocrinologists can’t work it out. If I eat starches or wheat I get IBS so socially it’s extremely difficult to go out to eat. I also have low BP, low cholesterol and always low blood sugar. Not on any meds except pain meds for chronic back pain and dreadful migraines. Any suggestions please? Thank you for great videos. Im curious Dr Mindy what you think of Stacy Sims advice that women's bodies are not as suited to fasting as men and we should eat within 45 mins of waking? Ive skipped breakfast for years but since strong perimenopause symptoms over last couple years i am now finding myself very hungry shortly after waking. I was trying to ignore these pangs but now understand it may be a cortisol spike and ny body stressed and needing fuel?? So confusing

There are lots of former vegans that went keto to fix health problems. Bella the Steak and Butter Gal has a lot of RUclips content. It sounds like you might think the things I used to say to myself, like meat is a dead animal, etc. or fat is bad for me. Perhaps start with adding more butter to your veggies, or real heavy cream to drinks.

    • @CHK12319
      @CHK12319 13 дней назад

@amytayloramytaylor I definitely don’t think fat is bad. I eat a lot of healthy fats. Steak and butter girl is not someone I would follow or trust. She followed a very restrictive, unbalanced vegan diet and comes off very disordered in her eating still.
I’m not vegan for the animals. I’ve just always found animal products to be disgusting. Dead body parts don’t appeal to me.
Also, I don’t have any health problems. I’d just like to lose 5 pounds or so. I currently have a bmi of 20, so it’s just for aesthetic reasons. Not health.

    "Can't fast for 12 hours."
Like from 8a.m. to 8 p.m. say? I first thought you were including 8hrs of sleep time meaning they couldn't be awake for 5hrs without eating😅. I've gotten so that in general I don't really feel hungry so make myself cook something to eat. There used to be a punishment, so we hear, of prisoners being restricted to eating bread and cheese. Yum, yum. That used to do lazy ol' me... on butter, and with cheese. That prolly sent me to hospital.

Today, Jan 15, 2015, is my 78th birthday, so it is a cheat day. Chances are I'll do a 14-10. I'll have bacon and eggs for breakfast, broccoli, olive oil, nuts, and salad for lunch, and mussels, strawberries, and raspberries for dinner. Normally I do 18-6 intermittent fasting with broccoli, nuts, sardines or other canned fatty (omega 3), eggs, nuts, cheese, kefir, yogurt, and other fermented foods about 5 days a week. I walk about 90 mins a day (in 10 to 30 min sessions). I take plenty of supplements.
Outcome: According to function (100 component) blood test my physiological age is 62. By the way I do a 3-5 day water fast about 4 times a year.

I eat beef chicken fish and arugula carrots potato basmati rice tomato no dairy no gluten no seed oils and berries.cuz that's what works for me . But I still need to supplement alotttttt just to function normally . Otherwise I get fatigue and lack of focus etc. It's not just the vegans or vegetarians. Our food is depleted . I supplement with dissipated beef organs 4 times a week. Bit d3+K2 . L tyrosine Ltheanine inositol ashwsghanda magnesium malate iron and the whole b vitamin complex all natural source and zinc also and omega 3. That's what I need almost daily to be focused energetic balanced emotionally have no physical pains and aches or fatigue or feeling run down . I do not have depression but I do have a history of chronic fatigue . And this way of eating plus walking 8000 steps + daily fixed it . Ofcouurse I was very deficient in literally everything and allergic to dairy and wheat. So I just cut them out . Doing the above , I lost 22 pounds without trying within a year . And my weight plateaued there. Intermittent fasting only works for me the first two days of period and the week after period. I can fast 24 hours no problem. Other times I feel run down . So I just don't fast other times. I don't eat 4 hours before bed and this works out for me . I just wanted to share my experiences in case anyone finds it helpful.
