From everything I’ve learned over the years, it seems eating local and eating seasonal is very important. Those of us in northern areas never would’ve had access to any fresh fruit and veg in the winter months. Sarah Pugh has such good info on all this that really resonated with me.
It's interesting to see how we are all different. I eat one meal a day at night, with my family, after the hassle of the day is over. It usually is a huge meal. And then I go sleep like a baby with a full belly. I confess that when I first started doing this, it was hard to digest all that food in bed. Now, 7 years of daily practise later, eating one giant meal a day, my body adapted and my digestive capacity improved. Now being able to eat a huge meal a day is a super power.
Such a great conversation, thank you. In the UK which I know has a (slightly) different food culture and possibly better availability of unprocessed foods, I wouldn't like to recommend too many options on 'convenience' foods as it's so important to appreciate where the foods is from, what you are consuming, how you are consuming- who with, the taste, smell, colour, texture, when & with whom. Slow life down just enough to allow time to buy/prepare & eat properly. I know that's difficult for some.
Good information. Eggs are great source of protein-also sugar free peanut butter. Love spinach, tomato, fresh garlic, lemon juice & olive oil salad. This is daily.
I found that I only graze when I'm bored and if there is snacks in the house. Now if I need to graze, all I can eat is pickled cucumber because everything else is eggs and meat
@@cmarietheemt23 , most of my friends and family feel as you do about night grazing. I stopped eating when the sun went down when I understood that night calories are more prone to make/ keep me fat. Eating good fats and protein for your dinner helps. Now, if I eat at night because of a social event, I don't feel good. I feel best sleeping when my stomach is empty. It's all a process. Don't give up.
Just my own testimonial, here... I quit eating around 2pm. I eat a protein bar for breakfast around 7am, because it is a "social" time that I spend with my hubby (I also go on an hour-long hike with my dog at 11a). Then I eat a main meal around 1pm, and I am done! It works for me. The hardest part is the psychological part of wanting to munch on something when I watch sports in the evening...ugh! But, I have learned to recognize that I am not really "hungry" so I just drink flavored water. That is what works for me, in case it helps anyone. Blessings upon all you health warriors! Thank you, Dr. Mindy! 💜🙌💜
I'm 55, I've never had weight issues or stomach issues. I've always had a very balanced diet. Meat, vege, fruit, salads. Dairy, raw milk..making my own yoghurt. I've never been one for sugar. I love food, I enjoy it. There's no way I could ever go vegan nor carnivore. You gotta enjoy your food. Plus educate yourself on what foods give you what nutrients. Lift weights & watch your portions. Eat good, non processed foods. Stick to basic, throw out the rubbish including your processed oils...vegetable oils, seed oils. Stay with organic ancient grains ( sour doughs, fermenting foods) Lift weights, stay strong. Girls, if you're menopausal search out hrt..the bio identical ...protect your bones, heart. Love God.
I have trouble sleeping if I’m hungry. I wish I could fast through dinner but I just don’t think that would work for me. But I can eat a meal at seven or 8 PM and, haven’t decided I’m fasting, not eat anything again until 12 or one or two or three the next day
11:23 it's true everyone says to fast in the evenings I have the hardest time in the evenings, and if I do get in the habit of resisting food in the evenings, I don't eat enough at all.
I personally feel you do what works best for you- I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s much easier to fast during the day. I think dr kiltz says he eats one meal in the evening ..
First thing I do in the store are fresh fruits and all kinds of vegetables preferrably organic and raw nuts, matcha tea and wild fish. My husband can eat anything he is fit and does not eat much but does eat organic saurbread. I had my blood analized hear this end next week but am sure I have insuline resistance which started 25 years ago when my theroïd did not function anymore since then on meds gained 25-30 kilo overweight. 70 years is my age and now have all kinds of inflammation and maligne white bloodcells became sick after the covid vaccines😢 So reading your book Dr Mindy and following the lessons of you and your guest and other people who make sense about our metabolic health, inspires me to stop the cravings. Do not drink alcohol and walk the dogdaily about 4 times but had to stop my great job 2 years ago when I got the chronic fatique and pain. Hopefully I will benefit also. Yesterday I bought 75ug Vitamine D 3 icm 25 ug Vitamine K2 and took 3 capsules to have 9000 IU and took about 25 ml Omega 3 Möllers with Vitamine A D and E. Aim to put the doses up for sometime because I learned it can take even a whole year to come to a plateau even when taking up to 50.000 IU daily. My hope is to get more energy. On February 3rd I have my check up with the hematologist in hospital😊 Yvonne fm the Netherlands❤
I'm really enjoying this channel ✨ You two are the bees knees! I've found that the healthier I eat, the less I eat... I eat to live rather than live to eat. Thank you for sharing your experience and kind words! It’s amazing how fasting and healthy eating transform both health and habits. Keep thriving! 💙 Dr. Mindy’s Team
So many researchers are now saying older women must work with weights to build muscle for longevity. How does that coincide with getting enough protein before your workout if you're fasting? What impact does this have on lean muscle mass? See for example, Dr Stacy Sims or Dr. Peter Attia.
People should be fasting when they prefer to do so. My body is the exact opposite of your guests. Skipping breakfast is impossible for me. But we eat a complex savory breakfast
I agree! It’s a personal preference, but I look forward to to a relatively late, big breakfast of eggs, bacon, cheese, some green veg; no “lunch,” but a late snack of nuts & tea; then I can more easily skip dinner (just tea) or a very light meal, like a tin of sardines if very hungry. No munching after “dinner.” 🤗
After trying to fast longer than 17 hours, my heart starts to hurt. I heard a tiny bit of salt would help me stay safe while still fasting. Is this true? Please help me🙏
Could be acid reflux. Try some antacids. See your Doctor if you can. Could possibly be a more concerning issue. I have fasted for several days many times and at no point did my heart hurt

Thank you for the video.- Just to say, BIO foods do most of the time not contain more nutrition, because they are still grown in the same nutrients depleted soils and only grown with less chemicals not no chemicals.
Then, let me clarify to you Dr. Bikman. I have, not by my fault, had to learn about the biome after getting C. Difficile from antibiotics. Rest assure the microbiome is Vital, VITAL to good health. Weight, sleep, everything. Akkermansia was one such strain that helped. You are missing something if you do not look at the still early research on the microbiome. Yes, I read your book.
I’m not diabetic or pre diabetic as I’ve had every test there is but I often super hypos which are severe and I have to carry jelly beans with me. I start shaking, full body excessive sweating and after a hypo I pass out for a few hours and feel dreadful after. I have about 7 kgs too much weight but stick to low carb no wheat or processed foods and only have one meal a day. I’ve kept a diary of my hypos and there is no obvious reason for hypos. I could go all day without eating and not have a hypo, I might have a small or large meal of protein and veg and sometimes I would have a massive hypo or a minor one. Nothing has a pattern to my hypos and endocrinologists can’t work it out. If I eat starches or wheat I get IBS so socially it’s extremely difficult to go out to eat. I also have low BP, low cholesterol and always low blood sugar. Not on any meds except pain meds for chronic back pain and dreadful migraines. Any suggestions please? Thank you for great videos. From Australia 🇦🇺
An autoimmune hypoglycemia, the decrease in blood glucose can occur fasting or after food ingestion. The insulin, C-peptide, and proinsulin levels are extremely elevated. The correct diagnosis can be made by measuring the anti-insulin and anti-insulin receptor antibodies.
She is also against keto - saying it negatively affects the gut microbiome but so many tested out there and it’s not the case. You can find drs to support everything- fasting is good / fasting is bad .. all meat is great / all meat is horrible .. on and on .. We need to find what works for us .. and also know that changes sometimes
I live in New Zealand, one of the most expensive countries in the world. My food bill is 50% less, eating carnivore, than my old “regular” diet food bill.
I have been fasting for 4 months, a range of 16-18 hours daily, a 36 hours once a week, following the hormonal calendar. I eat really clean no processed foods, bad fats or sugar. But I gained weight, what am I doing wrong?
I actually fast if I start getting ill. It helps to get over your cold and flu much faster.. just make sure you have plenty of hot non sugary drinks and try to sleep as much as possible. I just did 43 hours fast through my cold and came out of it feeling 80% better. Best of luck no matter what you do! 🙏
@40:50 A chemical in sunscreen was proved (extensive study Kahaluu Education Center, HI) to change fish to male. Haven’t other chemicals proven an effective on human hormones? I argue that chemicals in food does affect human hormones…
Men and womens bodies are different and as we keep finding out, nearly all studies are conducted with men. Im curious Dr Mindy what you think of Stacy Sims advice that women's bodies are not as suited to fasting as men and we should eat within 45 mins of waking? Ive skipped breakfast for years but since strong perimenopause symptoms over last couple years i am now finding myself very hungry shortly after waking. I was trying to ignore these pangs but now understand it may be a cortisol spike and ny body stressed and needing fuel?? So confusing
I’ve been vegan for 11 years, vegetarian since age 13. Sometimes I wish I ate meat to make a low carb diet more achievable. I just can’t imagine eating meat though. It repulses me. Maybe one day lol
There are lots of former vegans that went keto to fix health problems. Bella the Steak and Butter Gal has a lot of RUclips content. It sounds like you might think the things I used to say to myself, like meat is a dead animal, etc. or fat is bad for me. Perhaps start with adding more butter to your veggies, or real heavy cream to drinks.
@amytayloramytaylor I definitely don’t think fat is bad. I eat a lot of healthy fats. Steak and butter girl is not someone I would follow or trust. She followed a very restrictive, unbalanced vegan diet and comes off very disordered in her eating still. I’m not vegan for the animals. I’ve just always found animal products to be disgusting. Dead body parts don’t appeal to me. Also, I don’t have any health problems. I’d just like to lose 5 pounds or so. I currently have a bmi of 20, so it’s just for aesthetic reasons. Not health.
"Can't fast for 12 hours." Like from 8a.m. to 8 p.m. say? I first thought you were including 8hrs of sleep time meaning they couldn't be awake for 5hrs without eating😅. I've gotten so that in general I don't really feel hungry so make myself cook something to eat. There used to be a punishment, so we hear, of prisoners being restricted to eating bread and cheese. Yum, yum. That used to do lazy ol' me... on butter, and with cheese. That prolly sent me to hospital.
Today, Jan 15, 2015, is my 78th birthday, so it is a cheat day. Chances are I'll do a 14-10. I'll have bacon and eggs for breakfast, broccoli, olive oil, nuts, and salad for lunch, and mussels, strawberries, and raspberries for dinner. Normally I do 18-6 intermittent fasting with broccoli, nuts, sardines or other canned fatty (omega 3), eggs, nuts, cheese, kefir, yogurt, and other fermented foods about 5 days a week. I walk about 90 mins a day (in 10 to 30 min sessions). I take plenty of supplements. Outcome: According to function (100 component) blood test my physiological age is 62. By the way I do a 3-5 day water fast about 4 times a year.
My fasting insulin is 6 μU/mL. I am not losing fat. I eat just what is recommended for a 5' female 73 yo. who goes to the gym 3X per week, lifting weight that is heavy for me to failure which is 5-8 reps. for roughly 15 minutes. Walking 3 miles briskly on the track.
I was told that too.. Although I was sedentary.. 5 foot 3.. 180 eating only steak eggs and chicken and eggs and bacon.. Once a day if it was a ribeye.. twice a day if it was bacon eggs and chicken Right around 1k calories a day for 3 months... Gained 2 pounds.. Then I got a job delivering UPS packages 12 to 14 hours a day.. 20k steps a day.. Lost 26 pounds in 3 months.. Eating mainly carnivore.. And pizza on Sunday.. 🤣 🤣 Bodies are weird
I eat beef chicken fish and arugula carrots potato basmati rice tomato no dairy no gluten no seed oils and berries.cuz that's what works for me . But I still need to supplement alotttttt just to function normally . Otherwise I get fatigue and lack of focus etc. It's not just the vegans or vegetarians. Our food is depleted . I supplement with dissipated beef organs 4 times a week. Bit d3+K2 . L tyrosine Ltheanine inositol ashwsghanda magnesium malate iron and the whole b vitamin complex all natural source and zinc also and omega 3. That's what I need almost daily to be focused energetic balanced emotionally have no physical pains and aches or fatigue or feeling run down . I do not have depression but I do have a history of chronic fatigue . And this way of eating plus walking 8000 steps + daily fixed it . Ofcouurse I was very deficient in literally everything and allergic to dairy and wheat. So I just cut them out . Doing the above , I lost 22 pounds without trying within a year . And my weight plateaued there. Intermittent fasting only works for me the first two days of period and the week after period. I can fast 24 hours no problem. Other times I feel run down . So I just don't fast other times. I don't eat 4 hours before bed and this works out for me . I just wanted to share my experiences in case anyone finds it helpful.
At 55 my body looks better than it did in my 30-40s all from fasting, cutting out sugar, most alcohol and lifting weights. I'm down 50 pounds and still losing. I expect to be a 3-4 very soon.

I have to eat by 4pm or I get reflux if I eat early I’m fine!
The best and open/honest, up-to-date interview I've seen in a loooong time!!! Thank you so so so so much!!! ❤
Spinach is high oxalates not a health food contributes to arthritis and kidney stones
Night IS SO hard to not graze!
I found that I only graze when I'm bored and if there is snacks in the house. Now if I need to graze, all I can eat is pickled cucumber because everything else is eggs and meat
@RoyaDani I do eat hard boiled eggs and pickles often lol🤣
@@cmarietheemt23 , most of my friends and family feel as you do about night grazing. I stopped eating when the sun went down when I understood that night calories are more prone to make/ keep me fat. Eating good fats and protein for your dinner helps. Now, if I eat at night because of a social event, I don't feel good. I feel best sleeping when my stomach is empty. It's all a process. Don't give up.
I love 🧀 cheese at night
I graze on mixed nuts, not roasted or salted....
Skin is our biggest organ. Please continue to research the effect of lotions on us. The liver has a big job to do.
👍
I saw someone comment...she has a continuous glucose monitor..her shower gel caused a big spike in her blood glucose.
Love this!!!!! You covered all the basics!
Mindy! 💜🙌💜
I think that is the key: find what works for YOU. And utilize the findings of others.
@deirdremorris9234 Exactly! 🙌
What an excellent, comprehensive and comprehensible discussion. So grateful to both for sharing this important knowledge.
Love God.
Excellent interview!

I have trouble sleeping if I’m hungry. I wish I could fast through dinner but I just don’t think that would work for me. But I can eat a meal at seven or 8 PM and, haven’t decided I’m fasting, not eat anything again until 12 or one or two or three the next day
I thought that too but you can do it. Just find foods that fill you up & drink water & eat fruit
No! Don’t eat fruit to help you not eat a meal. Having your eating window later is perfectly fine
This is one of the best interviews. I feel my best when eating ketovore combined with fasting.
Great interview, Dr Mindy!!❤
And by the way, thanks so much!!
I love love his details and visual adjectives
What about cortisol???
Stress is a terrible thing when your body stores much fat because of stress.😢
Wonderful interview! Spot-on questions, and brilliant, informative, HELPFUL answers. Thanks to both of you!
Thank you for sharing this information, it’s so critical for people right now. ❤🙏
Thanks for sharing your knowledge

First thing I do in the store are fresh fruits and all kinds of vegetables preferrably organic and raw nuts, matcha tea and wild fish. My husband can eat anything he is fit and does not eat much but does eat organic saurbread. I had my blood analized hear this end next week but am sure I have insuline resistance which started 25 years ago when my theroïd did not function anymore since then on meds gained 25-30 kilo overweight. 70 years is my age and now have all kinds of inflammation and maligne white bloodcells became sick after the covid vaccines😢
So reading your book Dr Mindy and following the lessons of you and your guest and other people who make sense about our metabolic health, inspires me to stop the cravings.
On February 3rd I have my check up with the hematologist in hospital😊

What an informative video, loved it! Thank you Dr. Mindy ❤

I'm really enjoying this channel ✨ You two are the bees knees!
I've found that the healthier I eat, the less I eat... I eat to live rather than live to eat. I think my grocery bill would shock most people 🤏
I fast because my body loves it, not for the sake of lowering costs. But I also make most meals from scratch, so that certainly helps 😉
Thank you for sharing your experience and kind words! It’s amazing how fasting and healthy eating transform both health and habits. Keep thriving!

Fasting is my best friend....for improved health.
So many researchers are now saying older women must work with weights to build muscle for longevity. How does that coincide with getting enough protein before your workout if you're fasting? What impact does this have on lean muscle mass? See for example, Dr Stacy Sims or Dr. Peter Attia.
Have a eating window and make protein the main food
Awesome discussion
Next book: fast like a bro. Great work Dr. Mindy. Your fasting info has helped our family.
Amazing video!! Thank you!

Mind blowing knowledge by Mindy and Ben. Thanks for making our lives better ❤❤❤❤
Nuts is nature food high in both fat and carbs...not only milk
(Off-topic comment: Dr Mindy, your hair looks so pretty like that!)

Thanks. You look fresh Dr. Mindy 😊

if you fast to the meal called lunch it is actually break fast.
People should be fasting when they prefer to do so. My body is the exact opposite of your guests. Skipping breakfast is impossible for me. But we eat a complex savory breakfast
👍🙂
Please help me🙏
Celtic salt has potassium and magnesium. It'll help you get your minerals while fasting.
@@nicj5354 Or try the "LMNT" salt & minerals
Try it and find out for yourself. You’re unlikely to die
Yes! A pinch of salt helps for sure . Or a plain electrolyte pack helps too.
Could be acid reflux. Try some antacids. See your Doctor if you can. Could possibly be a more concerning issue. I have fasted for several days many times and at no point did my heart hurt
Wonderful interview, thank you. I’m a very healthy and active 75 year old thanks to your advice for the past years. Intermittent fasting is a way of life and healthy eating habits are easy now. 🌵👩🌾🐓
PS 5’4 (still!) 130 lbs, no meds, great labs Thanks Dr Mindy😘
Akkermansia feeds off the mucous in your gut - not the food .. and fasting is a great way to increase it
I’m not diabetic or pre diabetic as I’ve had every test there is but I often super hypos which are severe and I have to carry jelly beans with me.
Could you take a look at Dr. Stacy Sims research? She was recently on the Diary of a CEO. Her focus is on women’s physiology and nutrition
❤❤❤
Ya Dr Sims doesn’t agree with women doing intermittent fasting…
She is also against keto - saying it negatively affects the gut microbiome but so many tested out there and it’s not the case. You can find drs to support everything- fasting is good / fasting is bad .. all meat is great / all meat is horrible .. on and on .. We need to find what works for us .. and also know that changes sometimes
They already talked, look for the video with dr Mindy and dr Stacy
Omgoodness.
Sugars occur naturally.
SEED OILS DO NOT.
What do you do when you are in an extended fast and come down with a cold?????? I’m experiencing this right now and I am miserable
I adore this man :)

What about the nutrient drop in most farmed vegetables ???
HLTH code with Fairlife milk and ice cream makes a killer shake
How about eggs? Maybe mixed in with protein muffins or something?
As in, you can cook recipes that contain eggs but don’t look or smell like eggs
@@readaloudkids1407 sadly I’ve only eaten eggs once and I threw them up immediately. I have severe food aversions from childhood 🙈 I have issues haha
Not health.
"Can't fast for 12 hours."
Like from 8a.m. to 8 p.m.
It's amazing how fasting can shift our perspective on hunger! Your journey sounds transformative-keep it up!

Amazing!!! 🙌💙
Thank you

I"d like some proof about the notion that plastic bottles leach into the water.
Will daily intermittent fasting blunt our metabolism??
Hi Mindy! Is it important not to fast from day 15 onwards, if one is trying to improve fertility but not actively trying to get pregnant?
What about the blue zones? They eat carbs all meals….
It's not just the food it's everything else they do. Check into it some more ❤
@ I did check thank you 😊
But isn't Shakes still ultra processed. I'd rather not have processed food 😊
Plus I've lost over 30 pounds 🎉
Aren't hot dogs and other processed meats one of the top UPFs you should avoid for your health, though?? 🤨
I work late 3-4 days a week so I skip dinner. Thats is awesome!
What about someone who was fat until about 16years old and lost weight before puberty ended, have they reduced the number of fat cells?
Losing weight reduces the size of fat cells but not their number. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle supports long-term balance.
