Thank you for posting this! I was a dancer and cruise staff on board in the mid-90's. This video brought tears to my eyes. Haven't seen her in 30 years. :(

Although I never sailed on the Rotterdam I did have the pleasure of taking one of the last cruises aboard the Nieu Amsterdam built back around 1936. What a beautiful ship she was. I'm sure the Rotterdam was nothing short of that.

Thanks for sharing this, I can tell she would have been stunning years ago and I’m glad someone managed to save this ship from the scarp heap! Would defiantly check it out when in Rotterdam!
Sailed on this ship with some college buddies right before Premier went under. Ship was maybe 50% booked? The Tropic Bar wasn’t being operated at all, so that became our private hangout for the whole week. Good memories. Glad this ship wasn’t scrapped.
Tasteful tour guys, thank you. Looks very similar style ship to the old TUI Celebration and Spirit? We will be in Rotterdam next year and will certainly be taking a look. 🙏👍
Thanks for your lovely comment as usual :)! Oh really? Never had the chance to sail aboard them. It really is worth a visit, so much to see and read - and the restaurant on board was very good too!
Thanks God, I used to be working on the ss Rotterdam as a dinning room steward in 1979. I have sailed to some places in the world: NY-Bahama, several states in the Atlantic and arround the world cruise.
Stunning video guys, I’m fascinated by seeing what the old bridge, captains cabin and old life boats used to look like. Shame they don’t have more ships like this today decorated in this theme!
That was fun. As a teen my grandmother took me and two cousins on a trip to Alaska which would turn out to be the ships last cruise as part of Holland America. It was pretty special and it was fun seeing some old sights again.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour of Rotterdam. I didn’t even know she still existed if truth be told. But, I’ll certainly keep it in mind the next time I visit Holland :) thanks for posting!
Hello Ben, thanks for your comment and feedback! Yes, it's so lovely when they're able to preserve an icon ship such as SS Rotterdam, in the same way they have done for QE2 and Queen Mary!
I remember seeing her when she used to sail into Bermuda. Her draught was too deep to dock in Hamilton, so she had to moor in the Great Sound. Ships were beautiful then... unlike today. It's a shame you didn't show any passenger cabins.
Have you visited SS Rotterdam since she has been a museum or hotel? Or did you sail on her? Let us know your experience by dropping us a comment below :)
Would have been helpful to know the exact current status & location of the ship... Museum? Hotel? In 1960 I passed the ROTTERDAM mid Atlantic on STATENDAM
Thanks for you comment Michael! She sure is a beautiful ship. We were blown away at how well maintained she was, highlighting just how good the engineering must have been!
Unfortunately many examples of this particular era have been forgotten or lost to sea. We can thank the 2000s and late 1990s for most of the old ocean liners being scrapped
Yes, it is a shame that more of them haven't been transformed into museums or hotels like QM, Rotterdam and QE2. I understand the reason many of them were pulled from service though - many became uneconomical and were no longer SOLAS or compliant.

glad to see another ocean liner being kept safe as a museum, good job!
Same! It was an amazing experience ☺️
Sehr schön gemacht und man kann sich vorstellen was das Schiff zu erzählen hätte....Past alles...!!
Thank you for posting this! I was a dancer and cruise staff on board in the mid-90's. This video brought tears to my eyes. Haven't seen her in 30 years. :(
I had the privilege of sailing on this ship in 1981 out of New York City with my grandparents.
Oh wow how amazing, while we was walking round this ship, we kept thinking how cool it was to sail on her back in the day! ☺️

Thank you for sharing this video, so beautiful, i have worked here for 2 years (1993 and 1994). Love her so much.. what a masterpiece 💕💕
Hey thank you so much for watching! She really is a beauty and we’re glad we could bring back those nostalgic memories for you! ☺️
I sailed on this ship several times in the 70's and 80's. The first time was in 1976, NYC-Nassau-Bermuda. Wonderful memories.

Stopping on this Monday night. Can't wait. Going over on Stenna Britannica on Sunday night.

You're very welcome Cliff! Hope you get to step aboard her one day, she's definitely worth a visit!

Loved it.....great video.............I;m going to have to get over there one of these days....the ship looks terrific
Thanks Tom! We highly recommend visiting, it was a great experience 😀
Another great video guys! Always wanted to go to Rotterdam!
Thanks for your comment and feedback :) Rotterdam is a lovely city to visit!

If I’m ever in Rotterdam I’d love to do this tour. Very interesting. Thank you for sharing x
Thanks for your comment Beverley. You should definitely give it a go :)

Thanks for your lovely comment! It was a lovely experience, and would recommend to anyone interested in maritime history and ships :)
We. crossed the Atlantic back in 1965 from NYC to Rotterdam. What an experience for a 15 year old!
That was fun. As a teen my grandmother took me and two cousins on a trip to Alaska which would turn out to be the ships last cruise as part of Holland America. It was pretty special and it was fun seeing some old sights again.
Thanks for your comment! That must have been amazing, would have loved to see this old girl in service!
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour of Rotterdam. I didn’t even know she still existed if truth be told. But, I’ll certainly keep it in mind the next time I visit Holland :) thanks for posting!

Nice video - I worked on The Rotterdam as a photographer from 96' until it went out of service, great times!
Oh wow! Must have been an incredible experience!! Thanks for sharing with us :)
You probably took my picture. I was on the last cruise she did in Alaska around that time.
@@PatrickRich Nice! Yep there's a good chance I did. Or maybe I was a scrawny bear on the end of the gangway!
I was cruise staff on the World Cruise 94-94 and in the cast from 95-96. Did you work with James Hind from Canada?
@@VegasSteveWinn sure did.
beautiful ship
SAWDJ, WHAT an AWESOME video! I just found your channel and subscribed!
Thanks very much for your kind words, and subscription! Welcome aboard :)
Very well done! Exceptional coverage of the ship's venues :)
Thanks Bob & Holly. Not our best work, but I'm glad you feel that we gave you a good lookaround! She's certainly worth a visit :)
@@sailawaymag Looking at staying there, actually!
Ahh amazing! It’s on our to do list when we do a cruise out of Rotterdam! Let us know what it’s like if you do end up staying!! ☺️
Wir waren da und waren beeindruckt.......!!! Was zu erzählen hätte sie.😮
Our Honeymoon 48yrs ago, Great experience we were the youngest on the boat for sure. I was 18 and my husband was 20.
Wow that’s amazing! Have you ever been back since it’s been turned into a museum?! ☺️
No, however we are considering it for our 50th. It’s a dream of mine ❤

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing that. The passenger cabins are part of the hotel, we only visited the museum part for the day!
At 3:54 the room is actually the former 1st class smoking room.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎉❤️
Thanks for watching!
Me, my mom and dad sailed her from New York to South Hampton, June 1963.
Oh wow - bet you have some incredible memories. Have you been onboard her since?
@@sailawaymag No that one time and that was it. It was 60 years ago, memories have dimmed. Just some flash backs of certain instances.

Thank goodness Premier Cruise Line went under before they could change her!!

See you soon
We are staying the night on New Year’s Eve, has anyone been aboard to watch the fireworks show?
That sounds amazing Joyce! Hope you have a great time :)
This ship is so perfect, you would think that you could fire up the boiler’s and go on a vacation!
