This goes to show people are seeing a lot of ghosts when playing Magnus. Some of the earlier simplifications that Rapport missed seem simply unmissable even I as a 2400 would have payed these moves which evidently means nothing when you are playing blitz against Magnus - the inescapable feeling that he has always seen something more than you must be truly demoralising. Rapport must have felt obliged to find something better because he did not believe Magnus would allow a position like this and did so at several turns while the win kept slipping away. So I guess when playing Magnus take whatever small advantage you get and build on it - you will not outdo Magnus when it comes to creating new chances out of nothing.

Rapport is such a brilliant player, and it came from Magnus himself, he tweeted during the last candidate tournament, that He plays so great against everyone but he(rapport) unfortunately doesn't play well against me, it could be because rapport is intimidated by magnus, noticeably on his interview he doesn't have that much confidence in himself and always criticize his games. If you watch Rapport's best game truly felt like an orchestra such masterpieces, art.
He finished 9th place both in blitz and rapid! Out of 178 players.
No shame losing against arguably the greatest player of all time.
Seriously Richard is contender for the title, but he has overcome the things that'd tying him down.
