I was there, I can close my eyes, listen to this and remember being one of the kids sitting on the floor below the stage! This was one of the last concerts before Avalon closed about a month later. It was my Friday or Saturday night place to go for over two years when I was in high school. If nobody had a car, my friends and I would hitch-hike into the City from Marin. Avalon truly was a peaceful and loving place to be! I still dream about those magical days.

I had the Fillmore East. I knew even then how great it was, I didn't know how short-lived it would be.

A great example of what a great psychedelic rock band they were before they went country. A lot of us wish they’d stayed on this path for a longer time.

I'm one of them 😂 Decided to only listen to 1960's Dead. Occasional stray into 1970, but no further.

@thenazarite2444 There's definitely some serious psychedelic exploration in the early 70s listen to some of those playin in the band from that era.
Less muscular but trippy as it gets

I remember going to a concert at the Avalon, the party was on with Pig Pen doing most of the singing and it seemed like in 3 hours they played 3 or 4 songs the just went on and on and the red headed lady with me dug it with me, oh yeah.

Oh, how I loved the Avalon! And especially seeing The Dead. Thanks for this upload. I close my eyes, and I can almost feel the acid coming on...

TY for this! I've finally come to appreciate this wonderful band now that I'm middle-aged. Never too late - for many things - is the truth.

I discovered the magic in Sept. '66 right before my 17th birthday. Honestly, by the summer of '68 the scene had got too big for me as far as the numbers of people go. I can only remember parts of various shows attesting to my zonkness, but the flashes burned into my memories like East/West, the Chambers Bros, Steve Miller, a surprise appearance by the Airplane at 2 and listening to their friends talking the talk...and many other events can all be distilled down to the simple fact that all of us were extraordinarily lucky to be there. Or maybe as many have said we had been together somewhere similar long ago. To me it felt all new but somehow familiar. The bands, especially the Dead, opened those kinds of doors. A time it was and a time it had been.

I really wish the time was listed for each song. I’m not good with technology, but I’m going to try to learn how to do this so that I can help out. Anyways, when there isn’t a list with times I try not to look at the Setlist and just listen to it like you were at a show not knowing what was coming next. Galactic empires of goodness! Peace out!
