Super interesting. Gabriel has been whispering in my ear as well. I love that metal shell offering dish so much. Thanks for sharing. I am really enjoying your content James.
I was listening to you chat about Gabriel, interested and chill. Then I saw the actual Bible, and I was like "ick, noo!" Guess I def have some more shadow work to do around Christianity... I am happy for you, undertaking this healing journey, but also be safe and take care of yourself!
Thank you so much, I know what you mean! I was formerly Catholic and reclaiming some of the elements from that tradition in my current magical practice was difficult. I appreciate your kind words, thank you for watching! 💚💚
I went to university to do my undergrad and postrad in Philosophy and Classics with an aim to join the seminary and train as a Catholic priest. During which I lost my faith entirely, leading into a bleak nihilism. After a year of searching I found paganism (studying Classics helped, particularly with Greek and Roman neopagan movements, all that Ovid, Homer and Herodotus paid off), going on to interacting with a number of deitys from various pantheons. Later I drew a lot of influence from Shinto (in a similar way some eclectics do with Wicca, Shinto's idea of Kami related well to my own experience with deitys) A rather profound shift to start with. Even with that I found that sequences of shifts tend to be the healthy narrative to life. Like the passage of seasons, one step nesisarily follows from and preceded another. Just my view on the angelic, perhaps it will be of interest with your connection to Gabriel: As Catholicism spread most of the native deities encountered were incorporated either as angels or demons or saints (often as poor reflections of the original deity). Essentially these entities are so archetypal and timeless that they have collected a variety of names and cultural frameworks and differing times and cultures have tried to understand them. Gabriel more than most (from Canaanite polytheism, Zoroastrian angelic theogony, Catholic and Muslim hard monotheism). You can't keep a good deity down, and it's natural to reinterpret them with a new time. Kabbalah is an effective means of reinterpreting this framework, with varied deities/angels corresponding to different sepherot (eminations) from the ain-Soph (the all/God/source). I haven't worked with angels specifically, but I suspect that's because they realise I would find there pre-christian names and constructs more approachable. Also, a chaplet is a single chain of the 5 sections of the rosary, people normally use them because they can be prayed faster than the entire rosary, particularly in a time of need. Some people use each finger as a marker for each bead of a chaplet if they don't have one. Apologies for the length of this comment, editing is not my strong suit.
Oh wow! Your journey sounds incredible and absolutely magical ✨ The wealth of knowledge and information you've shared is MUCH appreciated, so much to know in this wide world (and beyond)! Don't apologize for the length of your comment, it was wonderful! 💚💚
Hi again, l went back to this video since you had mentioned incense and avoiding the smoke. A friend of mine resolved that with one of those dishes with a candle beneath to keep it warm. It is small and she heats a few TBSP's of water, puts it in the dish, lights the tea light candle and adds a few drops of whichever essential oil she choses. Works well for her.
Hi, James! You are so blessed that your soul and your mindfulness is searching for new ways to find all the answers you need! I think that people sometimes put too much barriers to some ideas... I am not Christian, but I think that almost every book has some meaningful idea and offcourse Bible is one of the oldest, so - we have much to learn from these texts. I feel that in each community are very judgemental people who are always constantly disagreeing to something. Some paths find hardships with religions or societies. But I believe that we must stay open to the world! And our hearts must stay open. There isnt wrong way if one soul is searching for the answers and doing spiritual journey! Love your new altar! My place is now filled with Dao , Zen and Qui Gong books, but I believe that all religions have something in common - love, loving and being kind :)
Thank you so much for your kind and wise words ☺️ It means so much! Oooh, your path sounds so lovely, I can only imagine what wonderful insights your are uncovering, much love and light your way 💖
Hi James, enjoy the video about Sacred Space, The tarot and Christian belief can go hand in hand for some people. I have a friend who will only use Angel cards, and like to inform me that my decks are on the dark side. I don’t consider my self a Christian, at 15 I started training in Tai Chi and tend to follow the Dao. Hope you find what you looking for in the Angels, As for a male role model, just look in the mirror, he looking at you. Blessings David
Thoroughly enjoyed hearing about this James. My Sacred Spaces change ALL the time... I drive myself crazy. I’m currently in the middle of changing my Tarot room around AGAIN 🤦🏼♀️💖🥰
Thank you! Stay curious and continue to learn - A good site for more information is sacred-texts.com - it's free and it is an extensive archive of all kinds of books on religion, mythology, folklore etc.
Some of my recent favorite tv shows center the angelic realm! Good Omens by Neil Gaiman (amazon prime) and Nobody's Looking (Netflix). Also my longtime favorite book series- His Dark Materials! So interested in learning more about angelic work and seeing your journey unfold. Your altar is just lovely. Especially love all the natural elements, like the driftwood bowl. Also the handmade chalice- wow! Gorgeous! I feel drawn to the angel tarot you showcased and the onyx sigils(?). Oh and the linen and golden feather altar cloth is just so fitting!
Thank you so much, friend! ☺️ I will definitely have to check out these shows, they sound amazing 😍 Your kind words, mean the world! Well wishes your way 💕💕
The instant I saw your bible I remembered this huge old family bible that we have at my parents. It is the most beautiful book I have seen. Old black and gold covers and then it has these full page pictures drawn so beautifully with just pencil or something. That would look so magical on your altar.... Too bad it’s in Finnish 🤷🏼♀️ I’ll still have to send you a pic of it one day.
Hi James! First time commenting (almost hoped in on one of your past favorites videos featuring Conversations with the Sidhe - for obvious reasons) but I loved this video! I totally agree that shifts like this are signs of growth and I have also felt an inclination towards reclaiming some of the Christian past at times, particularly Mother Mary. My biggest shift was opening up to working with personified deity at all. After my own past experiences I was sure that I wasn’t interested in that but deity kept knocking! Your work with the Bible reminded me a lot of the writing of Emmanuel Swedenborg who wrote on the Bible as a system of images and symbols that can be applied to our lives, and talks a lot about angels and demons as well. I haven’t explored his work too in depth (learned about it from my mom) but perhaps something to look into if you want another perspective into that. Have a great day!
Thank you so much, Mariel! I really appreciate your valuable insights, it's nice to hear about your experience and path. Opening up to the idea of personified deity was a big one for me as well! I will DEFINITELY be checking out Swedenborg, they sound amazing 😍 Best wishes your way 💕✨
Ooh so interesting. I enjoyed hearing about your work with Gabriel + seeing your space. I don't know that I've had any massive paradigmatic shifts in my practice that have affected my space - the big shift for me was actually shifting toward having a path/practice and having a sacred space at all! I've also, I think, over the years since I have, become... more minimal. I like a big clear space in the middle to work, so now my items are fewer -- much like yours, I arrange things kind of around the perimeter of the surface, some candles, some crystals, representations of the elements. I respect your reclaiming work with Catholic figures, (it sounds really powerful to me!), though I don't know that I could do it myself (raised Catholic too) -- for a long time even calling my sacred space an "altar" felt too Catholic-reminiscent for me to do it (though I've gotten more comfortable with that now). And, I *love* your dandelion image; beautiful!
Thank you so much, Laura! Your path sounds so interesting and powerful, I can definitely relate to some of what you mentioned. I wish I could downsize everything a bit more 😂 Sending well wishes your way 💖✨
I love rosaries, just have never found a way to use them. I recognize so much what you said about being picky about how certain deities etc are depicted. Your Gabriel statue does look nice. It was fun taking a look at your altar in this stage, it all ties in together well.
Thank you so much, Anna 😄 I will admit that I don't really find myself using my rosary very often, I'm still figuring it out 😂 Thank you so much for watching and for your insights 💖
Hi James ! I did enjoy to see that update on your practice and altar! I usually do not like angels stuff ( probably after being traumatise as a kid) but still appreciate your video and your enthousiasm about your subject ! Your little lady in the corner look like a Ukrainian lady ! My dad was and I remember seing women with this kind of costume. Also the depiction of the angel Gabiel (on the wood plaque) I also saw those at my dad's church... they called them "Icône" (sorry it is a french name but probably translate as Icon ? ) Thank you so much and I hope you will come up with updates about your pratice ! :)
Thank you so much, I appreciate all of your helpful wisdom! It's nice to know that the woman painted on the wood might be Ukrainian, I'd have never known! I can definitely relate to a difficult past with Christianity, I am sorry for any difficulty you might still be dealing with. Best wishes your way! ☺️💖✨✨
This was so interesting. It's fascinating how you're working with the bible. I have a Christian background and so now whilst I don't think I could say I'm Christian as such I do still have a relationship with Jesus and I feel connections with Archangel Gabriel and Mother Mary also. I would absolutely like to explore the bible from my current spiritual perspective however I do feel I have more traumas and wounds to work through that are residual from being part of a very dogmatic Christian church in the past, so I think this would be great for the future. I'd love to hear more about how you are getting on with your studies. Thanks so much for sharing James - I love seeing other people's sacred spaces. 💓 🙏 😊 Xxx
Thank you so much, Emily ☺️ I appreciate you sharing some of your own background regarding Christianity and the complexities there! I can definitely relate and will be sure to offer some updates on my personal healing from that past as well. Best wishes your way friend 💖💖
Hi James, I believe l once recommended a video of Jordan Peterson called "Overview" which first appeared on the Buddha Web. He is a Jungian psychologist at the University of Toronto and in that interview he gives a great explanation of Christianity. He has several Series that he teaches available on RUclips and the one on Genesis is awesome. This all from a phycological standpoint.I am also putting together an Angel Altar and studying the Archangels. (They are in a number or religions) Fascinated with Metatron. Cheers
I apologize, I definitely need to check that video out! That sounds so fascinating, as does your current practice! So fun to dive into these subjects and see where they take us! 😄💕✨
Ooohhhhh ! You have an "eye of Shiva" (with the spiral) on your altar, just like mine (but mine is oval) ! 😀😀😀 I love my "eye of Shiva" so much, it is the guardian of my altar. And what is great with eclectic witchcraft is when you have a spiritual shift, you can change your path easily.😊 I have start my journey with a lot of Celtic witchcraft but now it is more on the side of traditional witchcraft and Hoodoo.
Thank you for letting me know what that stone was! Oooh, your shift and practices sound so interesting, it's great you were able to transition so seamlessly. Best wishes your way 💕
Would love to hear more about your studies with the Bible. I was raised Lutheran and have quite a complicated relationship with Christianity in general. While I don't identify as a christian now, I do think there's a lot that can be taken from some of the teachings and I find myself not wanting to throw the baby out with the bath water.
Super interesting. Gabriel has been whispering in my ear as well. I love that metal shell offering dish so much. Thanks for sharing. I am really enjoying your content James.
You are too kind! I'd love to know how your journey with Gabriel is going, that sound so lovely 💚
