  • No one can play in the AFL forever. Recent rumours pointed towards Dustin Martin making a sudden decision to retire immediately. He isn't the first superstar to just walk away and begs the question of how players of his stature should bow out.

Dusty has nothing left to prove, he's one of the all time greats, 3 Premierships, a Brownlow Medal, only man to win 3 Norm Smith Medals, various All Australian Honours, Jack Dyer Medals and Leigh Matthews Trophy. Hall of Fame worthy career.

Prime Dusty was almost unmatched as the most exciting player to watch. Like watching a ballistic missile smash through glass.

@@Gimmo2197 Exciting doesn’t necessarily mean best. In terms of fun I loved watching Dusty.
Same with Dane Swan. Wasn’t as good as Ablett either but very exciting.
They are all superb though, let’s be real.

Sidebottom probs. Pendles doesn't seem to age much. Elliott needs to make way for a younger livewire forward who is more consistent. Mihocek is - fortunately - still going well but it's frustrating that the Pies need a key forward and, with Murphy out, a key back urgently.

@@HorizonOfHope I disagree with Elliott, Sidebottom, Pendlebury, WHE and Cox should be moved on, I hope we can see what Josh Eyre can do

@@HorizonOfHope Elliott wasn't great last year, probably due to carrying constant injuries, but he actually seems to be doing pretty well so far this season. He still has another year or two left after this season I reckon. Pendlebury far from his best but easily good enough to play through this year, whether he finishes up or goes again will depend how his form is this season. Not sure about Sidebottom, been really struggling so far this year, unless he can rapidly improve he may not make it to the end of season. Agree with Cox, gives away way too many frees, probably time to retire after the year and let Cameron take over.

2017 Dustin Martin. My father and grandfather both said that was the best individual season by a player they have ever seen. And they have seen just about every footballer from Post WW2 until now. There have been better players than Dusty. But that 2017 season alone has forever established him as at least a top 15 footballer of all time. We are all very fortunate to have witnessed his footballing talents.

I think Heppell still plays decent but his main asset is the experience and leadership he brings to the dons backline. Also I think that Goldstein will also end up playing one, Mable two years at bombers and then retire to coaching at Essendon or North

If he played out till 300 games that would set him for a game against the hawks in round 14 which could be a sell out crowd of 90,000 plus and would be a genuine chance for Richmond to win.
