Cory someone else commented that you are accountable to yourself, not to us. That’s correct - it is your journey. But you have graciously chosen to share it with us and we are so happy and inspired to follow along and offer encouragement, the way you encourage us all with your strength and perseverance. I love this video so much.....you start by talking about your back hurting and your “quest for happiness” and by the end of 18.3 miles you are around a giant campfire with friends and your Little Bee and you look so HAPPY! So, you see, you have already found happiness for this day. Now just go find it for each day - it will always look different but it is there, nonetheless. So proud of you. You ARE the hero!!❤️
You are an encouragement to us still on the sofa! My 57 year old hubby just got his shoes and we are going to get our poles and just head down our dirt road to start. Did I mention he I a diabetic and is slowly loosing his vision. You're doing great a great thing here bigger than your own goal.
Yay! Learning some German. I'm sure Nessa appreciates that. You're only accountable to yourself, not those of us watching. But we sure are proud of you. You're doing amazingly well. Well done, sir. Well done!
"You're only accountable to yourself, not those of us watching". You could not have said anything better to Cory. I hope he see's your comment, and heeds by it. Take care.
Here is a truth. People are watching - - not just on You Tube, but everywhere you go and everyone you touch. There are so many and most you will never know. You are making a difference. Hold that thought. Old and young, obese or not, rich or poor, we are all in this together and you are making a positive difference for many. Keep on!
I have 3 broken vertebrae in my back T11, T10, T9. My shoes have to have an elevated heel or a jel pad heal insert to relieve the stress on my back. My pack rest on my hip to take most of the load. At 61 y/o I limit myself to 20 mile per day. Every 5 miles I stop, take off my shoes and socks and allow them to breath and dry for 15 or 20 minutes. That's what works for me and my old back. Hang in there brother. You've got this. "The only easy day was yesterday."
Hey second chance thanks for bringing us along on the adventure DO NOT GO HOME! Let the adventure continue, even if you have to reset and go back to hiking just a few miles a day. All good things are on the trail Let the “epicness” continue
I don’t comment much, but I’ve been following you from the first day, and I’ve seen you evolve, not just physically, I’m loving the new you, or should I say, I’m loving the you that was trapped under your weight and now is shining like the ☀️ It doesn’t matter if you get to Canada or not, what matters is that you stay healthy and HAPPY, I still remember when doing 4 or 5 miles a day was hard, and look at you now, doing 18 or longer without trouble. Hopefully your back pain is gone by now. I love the connection between you and Little B.
RESPECT to you Corey! Look at some of your first videos to see just how far you've come. Hell yes you can do this! You have an entire army of supporters out here dude!
Cory, you are so awesome, you don't even know! Such an inspiration to so many...hike on dude and don't worry about all the peripheral stuff....just follow your dreams and be the bulldog you are and don't let go...love that you and Nessa have found each other...can't wait to see how this all unfolds. You are amazing...keep going!!
Good to see you! In 1990 when I was doing the northern California section with a 65 lb pack I started knocking out 25 mile days with a simple trick. Get everything ready the night before and start hiking at first light. After 2 to 3 hours I stop for a quick bite and then keep going. Just focus on easy goals like doing Oregon for now. You’ll kick yourself if you stop too soon. Keep up the good work! We’re all rooting for you and little bee!!
My wife and I watch most of your videos and we root for all of your successes!! When times get tough keep doing what you’re doing!! You’re on the right path pun intended!!
Well probably too late, but here goes: If you can feel rocks thru the bottom of your shoe, your ankle turned, and your back hurts, maybe switch to an actual boot. I think also you have a lot of time with your own thoughts. (Mine would make me go crazy). Mental health is as important as physical health. What you are doing is challenging both. Sometimes well being is accomplished by what we do for others. Take satisfaction in what you have done for us who follow. On a lighter note, I love how you pass the time and find movie references to describe the trail. This has been priceless!
Love my hiking boots. Having notoriously weak ankles, I don't trust myself not to twist an ankle without the added support. One of my hiking buddies switched to trail runners, and on her very first day wearing them, she stepped on a rock and *ouch* got a badly turned ankle. We spent hours soaking her foot in a cool stream to keep the swelling down.
@@kellys1458 I think the trail runners will turn out to be a fad. I can see them being okay for some on shorter distances. I too have foot and ankle problems, so I will be out of fashion till it comes back around.
Yay! Over 18 miles! Amazing! 👍. And great to see Twerk again! Say Hi for us. Yes, I hear you when you say being on the trail for 150 days (or 149 😉) IS a long time. Sorry those injuries continue. Happiness is such an elusive thing. It never stays steady. It comes and goes like clouds in the sky. But pursuing it is always worth it. We love and admire you, Cory. And we support you in all that you do and in all the choices you make regarding the trail. I am just so thankful you have allowed us to follow along from that first day at the southern monument. 🙏🏼❤️ You have come so far on so many levels. 🏔👏🏼
Simple Amazing!!! You are such an inspiration. I am 49 years old and planning to do the AT in 2022. I currently weigh in at 425. I am hoping to loose at least 150 before I start the hike. Love your videos!!! Keep Going!!!
I hope to see videos for more inspiration I have not been able to find a big person starting the AT yet because I've wanted to do it as well but.....lots of discouragements, time and money wise...😅
I remember when you first started and 2 miles purt near killed you. Look at you now.... 18 miles 20 miles etc. Last weekend I did a short day hike, I met an older fella who had lost 160+ lbs. He told me his philosophy was to lose weight to hike not hike to lose weight. You are doing great.... probably more than most expected. You need to do what is right for you. You have accomplished more than 90% of what people watching you have.
I know it would be tough to take a break, but is it possible to take a week or two off?...just to let everything rest and reset your mind? I know there is a delay in videos but even if you're still feeling this way, something to consider. This is about the point of the hike where the boredom and overuse injuries really set in. Maybe go hang out at the beach somewhere with Little Bee. I'm wishing you all the best on the trail and in life Cory. You are doing an amazing job. Much love from San Antonio!!! xoxo
Second Chance... you are handsome and so cute! Congratulations on being on the trail for so many months now! You are transforming right before our eyes. So cool to see! Keep it up! We are all behind you!
Do you realize what an amazing feat you have already accomplished? I've been following you on youtube since day one. You are an honest to God hero! Thanks for sharing
It’s amazing how down you sound in the beginning but then nearer the end you sound more up. I think the hiking endorphins agree with you, whether you realize it or not.
Just wanted to point this out since you said that everyone wants to be beautiful. Cory, you are super handsome. I love the longer hair and beard...and those dimples!
Hey man, I work at a resort by Crescent Lake, oregon and I would be happy to put you up in a nice room with a hot shower when you make it up here - also happy to drive you to Bend if you need to hit up REI. :) Much love brother!
Stay strong Corry. You are a hero to all of us. You will never feel this good or have so many great experiences if you go home.Congrats on the mileage and oh yah......24 thousand of us pulling for you.
Watching you on tv here in Australia, wow man I have seen every video , you are pure legend , never stop . I look forward to you videos inspiration, this is my first comment on my phone as I always watch on tv , you are the best
You’re doing such an awesome job! You’re so motivating and really make me want to start hiking which I plan to do this fall when it’s not 100 degrees out. Only like a month of heat left and I too am going to get happy and not let anything stop me from trying to hike! Super excited cause I’ve always wanted to but been afraid that I physically couldn’t do it. Planing to just get out there and try it, start slow and enjoy the ride! There’s lots of cool places here in Texas and I can’t wait to start exploring. Maybe one day I’ll be able to through hike too! Keep it up! You’re doing awesome and encouraging so many of us!
Don't give up! You have come so far, and this is where the rubber meets the road. The weight loss is not easy, if it was we all would be skinny with little to no effort. Keep going Cory! You got this. Just put one foot in front of the other, your support group here and other boards is phenomenal. We are all rooting for you! You know that right?!? One foot in front of the other, at the end of the day you'll be amazed at the miles that just flow under your feet. Oregon is beautiful. I grew up there. Enjoy each day and keep walking.
Don't quit. Those lifestyle changes you talked about making will be how you do maintenance on yourself. Your cure is hiking...it's your chemo so to speak. Life is hard, but once you embrace that notion it can become easier. It will be so much harder to achieve your goal if you are back in the enviroment that facilitated your over eating. Just keep going.
You will really get the Mordor feeling when hiking up to Opie Dildock pass and Cone peak in the Three Sisters Wilderness. You round a corner and come to a lava wall and you can’t see where the trail goes. I alway expect to see Orcs. 😊
Hello my hiking friend, you truly are an inspiration. Keep on, keeping on. Be sure to take good care of yourself. Certainly all the best to you. I look forward to your next exciting episode. 🤗
Sitting on the couch back home might sound great right now, but after a couple of days you will be disgusted with yourself for stopping. I've seen what you've gone through so far, and there are so many high points and I'm sure there will be many more on this great adventure. So my advice is to take it one day at a time. Don't think about how much further you have to go since that might be discouraging, instead look at how far you've come! Enjoy every moment. And take some pills if you have to for pain.
Waking up to your video was a great way to start my day. You are an inspiration good sir. I live on the Eastern Sierras with I would have found your channel sooner.
Go see a chyrupractor they help so much. I fell hard on the ice in March and had a lot of pain in my lower back. Now I'm feeling much better. Hang in there and I hope you find a solution for your back. You are a wonderful person and you are on the right track!! You can do this! You are looking so much healthier and you are handsome. Little bee is a lucky lady!
Your doing great. Keep it up. We are all tired out here. We are all thinking the same thoughts. I think about quitting all the time. Have to get to Canada eh! My feet hurt nonstop. You can't quit, your inspiring thousands of people. I have just over 300 followers and that is no where near your followers. Getting off the trail won't make you happy. It will disappoint you. Hang in there and keep on keeping on. Otis Hikes is a big fan of yours.
Jane Russell what the heck? No need to be sarcastic! Otis is a thru hiker too unlike you and me 🙄. I do hike daily but I suspect you just tag along from your couch
What you are doing is really inspirational for many people . I wish many will do what you are up too . My best wishes for you . Keep up you will be their at the Candian side .
Stay with it !!!! You can not imagine How good it will be to reach Canada. That will be something you will cherish the rest of your life . And I know you can do it my friend!!
Congratulations on the nice mileage day! I'm glad you have brought all of us along on your journey but you owe nothing to anyone watching your quest. That said, as long as you're happy, I hope you continue to wander until you meet your goals. I have no doubt that you will be able to manage your life off trail. You seriously seem like a different dude than when you started....or maybe just the better version of who you always were. I'm sure, during your time on trail, that you wondered, "where would you be if you had never started this adventure?" I have to think the challenges you have overcome, the experiences you have had, and the people you have met, must make you smile that you were brave enough to take that first step. Carry on young man, carry on.
EPIC ending to your 2nd personal best day!!! I bet you like the forest walking more than the desert ) And that was so cool that Twerk picked you two up AND you got the awesome trail magic & campsite!!!
@@beverlymayfield5773 He's lost a hundred pounds. He can't hike on no food and he needs protein to keep building muscle. He's burning enough calories that he deserves a killer burger every once in a while. It's not like he is sitting on a couch watching RUclips.
As a runner I have a saying “ Wether your Big or Small .....or Fast or Slow..... and it doesn’t even matter how far you go.....at the end of every finish line you are ALWAYS a better version of yourself 👏👍
keep going secondchance you can do it don't listen to negativity. people can pull you down only if you let them. people opinions only matter if you allow them to this includes mine. ps if you like little bee as more than a freinds you only live once say something. best of luck with your goals.
Happiness is a journey much like the trail your on. Sometimes you're going uphill and sometimes you're going downhill. Sometimes the views are fantastic and sometimes you can only see trees.
Look at your self - your second biggest day and you still look strong at the finish! Your back pain could be since you lost so much weight your posture has changed and you are using a different group of muscles that you are not use to using. If that is why, then in time it should go away. You are in some beautiful country now - enjoy the scenery as you are hiking towards a new chance on life.
Brother you are doing amazing things. Always remember happiness is determined by you and you alone. There are always things that will have you feeling blessed. Little Bee and you make an awesome couple!!!!!!!!!
you're doing great ! this adventure is epic ! This is the only youtube series i've ever kept up with . You have inspired me to get back out. Thank you Sir !
This is your journey so you do what you will.... Hyoh etc That being said, I beg you take that mans advice from a previous video and “never quit on a bad day” Keep up the great work 😎
All-right Cory knock off the negativity talk it will kill the dream! Maybe the new shoes are part of your back problem, also you don't have to push it, just do what u can, b will be there in the end and you will be a new man! Peace & Love :)
That 'Lava" is Basalt, a type of rock. The cascade mountain range was formed by the volcanos on the Pacific Rim Ring of Fire, when eruptions lmade magma come to the surface. There are many volcanos on the cascade mountain range, including Mt Shasta, Mt. Hood, Mt St. Helen's , Mt Adam's, Mt. Rainier,Mount Baker and more. The Pacific Northwest is a great place to visit or live in. So much beauty.
As they say on the AT.... No pain, no rain, no Maine!! It all comes with the adventure of the hike. Embrace the good with the bad it all balances out and becomes the story. You can do this Cory, push through it friend, one more step.... one more step.
I've had back surgery if no hip pain or shooting pains down the legs it's just muscle . Probably just pulled something in the lower back . I'll sound like a broken record but stretch in the morning and the evening . I still get hip and leg pain from nerve damage and constant bulging discs . The more weight i carry the more they compress . Cramping in the legs , because your on them all the time , could be from not drinking enough . 5 or 6 liters a day at least .
Cory, I have been a strong supporter through your entire journey. Please don't think I'm being rude or just a smart-ass here, but I question if your pack is the correct fit for you. I've noticed it in other video's, and towards the end of this video, it just seems the fit may be off. I've never done a thru-hike, but I have had enough back aches from ill-fitting packs, that yours made me wonder. If not, just tell me to mind my own business!🤠👍 Stay strong. Stay safe. Keep your eye on Little Bee! Tomorrow you hike. Roger
@@judithshorey2137 I'm glad you mentioned it to. I have hated to say anything, but tried to be as delicate as I know how. Which isn't always very delicate. 😊
Here’s something that works for me. I put podcasts and books on my phone and I listen to them while walking when i start to get discouraged and get the negative self talk thing going. It’s an excellent distraction and I learn cool things. Load onto your device while in town. If you use earbuds, only put one in at a time to keep your outside awareness available to you. And remember to “embrace the brutality.”
IMHO there are two people who inspired potential hikers most to start on the PCT: Nr. 1 was/is Cheryl Strayed with her book. Nr. 2 is YOU. I am thruhiking the PCT since early may 2019. Met alot of people (thruhikers, trail angels as future thruhikers) who are inspired and refering to you Corey. Especially people with some pounds too much seeing in you, what will be possible for them in their future. Whatevever your decision will be, you have achieved already for yourself great things. And also in motivating others to possibly start the PCT in the future. Just follow your heart in your decision-process. Cory, GO THE WAY YOU GO.... And always temember: Its not those ultralite and ultrafast hikers that inspire others, its always those normal hikers that are able to start the flame within others. Thats what you do....

You can't quit, your inspiring thousands of people. I have just over 300 followers and that is no where near your followers. Getting off the trail won't make you happy. It will disappoint you. Hang in there and keep on keeping on. Otis Hikes is a big fan of yours.
Otis Hikes! Eh???? Whatever lol ✌🏼 from
Vancouver Island
Jane Russell what the heck? No need to be sarcastic! Otis is a thru hiker too unlike you and me 🙄. I do hike daily but I suspect you just tag along from your couch
Maybe when I move back to Oregon I could do some trail magic
You and Little Bee are internet stars man!
What you are doing is really inspirational for many people . I wish many will do what you are up too . My best wishes for you . Keep up you will be their at the Candian side .
Stole a screen shot guys. Deserves to be on a billboard on The Sunset Strip. Striking!
You are just kickin that trail out. You don't have to push it for anyone but yourself.. You are an amazing person. Keep it up brother.
Love watching you from the start. here in NZ we say pain is weakness leaveing the body. Keep going man it will get better
EPIC ending to your 2nd personal best day!!! I bet you like the forest walking more than the desert ) And that was so cool that Twerk picked you two up AND you got the awesome trail magic & campsite!!!
Might want to start incorporating a stretching routine into you end of day activities!
That and lay off the four patty hamburgers.
@@beverlymayfield5773 He's lost a hundred pounds. He can't hike on no food and he needs protein to keep building muscle. He's burning enough calories that he deserves a killer burger every once in a while. It's not like he is sitting on a couch watching RUclips.
@@beverlymayfield5773 Go troll somewhere else.
Yayyy Twerk! He provided more than just a ride and food! The camp scenario was so chill and inviting!
Well done sir. !! Little Bee is a beautiful soul. !! Strength and Honor.....!!
Congrats on hiking 18.3 miles! Keep on trucking - you are doing great!!!
Thank you. Following you from the beginning has made a difference in my life. 😀
Hike on to happiness Second Chance! ❤️
It’s not a sin to get knocked down. It is a sin to not get up again.
You are doing great.
Awesome scenery once again! And tons of fun as well
Keep positive mantras going :)
Happiness is a journey much like the trail your on. Sometimes you're going uphill and sometimes you're going downhill. Sometimes the views are fantastic and sometimes you can only see trees.
😀
Kevin Looney - very wise analogies
Stay safe and have fun. Good job Cory!
You're a legend up and down the trail!
18 miles - crushing it, big guy- keep going!
This is your journey so you do what you will.... Hyoh etc
That being said, I beg you take that mans advice from a previous video and “never quit on a bad day”
Keep up the great work 😎
All-right Cory knock off the negativity talk it will kill the dream! Maybe the new shoes are part of your back problem, also you don't have to push it, just do what u can, b will be there in the end and you will be a new man! Peace & Love :)
You are doing so well. You are on a quest for happiness? I think you've already found it my friend.
I’m no judge of whether you’re “beautiful/handsome” - but you’re DEFINITELY an inspiration! :)
You sounded depressed at the beginning of the video, but as soon as you got to Little B the smiles returned.
God bless y'all and keep y'all safe. Keep the positive thinking I love seeing that
Congrats on the 18.4 mile day! 💝
Keep pushing on if you can. Hope to see you at PCT days next month!
Loved the ending to this one!! I am starting to get sad though as I know that there are a couple of not so nice videos coming up!!👀
Glad you caught up to Nessa Bee! 18+ is a big one, keep it up. Stay steady and strong, healthy and well :)
You and little bee are so cute together! Way to chase your dream! You are deffinatly finding it!
You are doing fantastic! It’s amazing the progress you have made. BTW “little bee”is as cute as a bug!
Great job, 18 miles, awesome.
What an awesome day you had...and way to push through and get those miles.....and yes you look good ....lol
It's Friday here.. watching you "in Mordor" makes me want to go for a hike, even if they were yucky for you! Keep trekking!
Roger
RkF I noticed his chest strap is higher than it has been. His pack may not be fitting right
Yes- it's looks tipped- I've noticed it too.
IMHO there are two people who inspired potential hikers most to start on the PCT:
Nr.
And always temember:
Its not those ultralite and ultrafast hikers that inspire others, its always those normal hikers that are able to start the flame within others. Thats what you do....
You're doing great. We all love you 😊
